Hello All
Over on another board, people were musing about the intelligence quotient of the posters
(in a POSITIVE way). I, in turn, started a thread asking people to share what their education
is. I thought it might be a neat thing to do over here, so, here goes -
Me, BA/Communications/Public Relations - Magna Cum Laude
HOWEVER after all that I STILL have trouble spelling sometimes...I have MILD dyslexia/dyscalculia... Once in a while I'll invert my d's and b's,3's and e's,6's and 9's :(
I started reading when I was THREE so go figure...I think it's more of a numeric thing...
I have to take down ALOT of phone numbers at my work and I ALWAYS clarify the number
THREE TIMES before the conversation ends...It happens sometimes for example if a
number is 555-3691 I might initally jot it down as 555-3961 instead. IT SUCKS!!! LOL!
I've always sucked at math and it was only through CONSTANT repetition and taking like
15 sheets of paper to do one problem that I EVER go through math!!! LOL! :)
BTW, I've always thought that "life" is the best teacher and giver of REAL experience!
What's your deal?

That's weird, I was just thinking about my IQ today, and iq's in general. But mainly I just know a bunch of stuff that probably only a few people care about. By the way, I always wondered why people can't understand the number the first or so time i say it, but now i have a better understanding of uh...that one thing.

Yeah, it does suck being kind of "numerically" challenged...
I have a few friends who are MAJOR scientists, my one friend,
his name was uttered when it came time for Nobel nominations
for physics, and I found this out from a couple of his colleagues,
not from the man himself...
Math aces and scientists have always fascinated me, probably
because it's something I have a deficiency with...
My math issue is with linear concepts not spatial. For instance
I did OK with Statistics in college, which of course is manipulating
GROUPS of numbers... I can look at a stack of paper and tell
you how many sheets are there(or very close to it), same goes
for zipping though the grocery store and having sometimes exactly
enough money for the items, how tall a person is etc.. It really is weird..
Another trippy thing regarding math to me, is about how the concept
of 0/zero is relatively recent...the Arabs "invented" it, if I'm not mistaken...
My scientist friends all tell me to "chill" about my little issue.
Alot of them don't completely believe/agree with the concept of "time"
(Kinda like Our Stevie, LOL!) And they say that time is a "linear" concept...
At any rate, you're not suppossed to know your IQ, but I found out mine
and it's 129... Kinda frustrating...above average, but not genious level, heck, I KNOW I ain't
no "genious" LOL! And also, maybe most importantly, to echo the words
of my mother,"Celestenadia, you have NO common sense!"
Like I said before, I think that LIFE experience is the most precious.

That is weird - and actually i constantly trip out about my math & science strenths and weaknesses - like, there are so many layers there, the first being that i become extra frustrated with these things on occasion because my word brain is so comparatively fast and proficient, etc. *!!!ooo, Rhiannon just came on!!!* singing break!* Anyway, I notice i don't think in pictures and non word symbols that well - but i can remember numbers fast, and do certain things pretty fast - to put it in diff way - when i took a test before jr. college and after highschool - i took not the easiest, but the next - OVERALL I scored a 'D', like 69 or 72 percent or something - but on WORD PROBLEMS I scored 6/6  and i think i scored lowest on graphing problems, or maybe quadratic equations - but i didn't take math or science my senior year  oh, and chemistry and higher math are even more difficult for me to grasp - judging by watching my best friend do her homework, and the chemistry i had (easy). I guess i went on and on...ooops... :)

I have my BS in Animal Science and Management. I'm not planning to go back to school to further my education even though my parents would like me to.
I have a BA in Communication Studies (Media Studies & Production concentration) with a minor in creative writing
I'm back in school working on my second degree, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Yeah, it's a lot more school. but I figure, I'm 23 so I still have time... it will be so nice to get out of school and get a real job!

I've got a BA in design and was working on my masters until a few months ago. I'm going back slowly to get a degree in political science since I only have to put less than two years in and I've already taken a few of the required classes.
I must have changed my major 6,709,816 times when I was working on my bachelors. I was in my counselors office every other week to change it. Eventually, they told me I had to stop changing it or my financial aid would be jeopardized.

Omigosh, in design? was it fun? that's one of my 6,709,816 dreams. Don't you wish you were independently wealthy, and could just go to school to learn everything you want, whenever you want, and not have your whole life and possible financial ruin riding on it? :)

My apologies to the people who already read this on BN...........
I have a BA in public relations/English and am almost done with my MA in communication. This probably is my last semester of coursework. I may take one course in the spring. I won't have the degree in hand until May, because I have to take my comps.

Welcome to my world. I have my BA in Psychology. I actually had like 6 different majors. After my first semester of my junior year, I knew I had to just pick something, or I was never gonna graduate(and financial aid would be kaput). My Minor was African-American studies. I've always found this Minor kind of funny. The only reason it was my minor was that Indiana U had quite a few Jazz and Blues history classes, which fell under A-A. Very interesting classes(and easy too, although that wasn't why I took them :) ) After the 4th or 5th class, I realized how close I was getting to a Minor in it.

 It's not that I couldn't afford to do it (I pinched my pennies so hard that Lincoln screamed and now that I have a solid job and make good money, I can actually enjoy it  ), I just don't have the patience to do it. I like learning things that interest me, but I couldn't imagine going to school every year. Two more years (plus a bit more if I go for my masters) is enough for moi!
It was fun, but VERY challenging. I'm terrible when it comes to math, so I really struggled with that but eventually mastered it good enough. My last year was incredibly strenuous; project after project, presentation after presentation, etc. But I love it.

I double majored in English and Political Science. I'm a writer and researcher now and I can knock out pieces faster than anyone else I know in the same business, I'm a whiz at analyzing material and I can hunt down sources like a bloodhound. Just don't ask me to do math.
Here's a truth life story. The other day I got a bill for 120.38. I wrote a check (it was to the county treasurer)--for 102.38. They kindly sent it back to me and pointed out it was for the wrong amount. I seem to have math dyslexia--I don't have it when I'm reading or writing but boy, when I'm doing math--it's there. I have a habit of switching numbers around and I've done it for years now.
Another example: Currently there is close to a $1000 difference in what the banks says I have in my checking account and what I think I have in my checking account. This has gone on for months now and each month, the total gets larger and larger. Luckily, they say I have more than I think I have or I'd be frantic. This gives you some idea of my math skills!

What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Do you mean being referred to as Luxie? I almost pissed myself laughing - somehow I don't think you're in love with THAT nickname.
Anyway, I HATED math & science in high school, so I did the only thing I could to get out of it - I went to BOCES! That's right, BOCES! I didn't want to take cosmetology or auto repair, so I took nursing, ending up loving it. Laugh all you want, I had my practical nursing diploma at 18 & passed the LPN boards with flying colors right after my 19th birthday.
I worked for about a year & decided to go back to school for my Associate's, so I went to school full time while I worked part time evening shift. Graduated with honors when I was 22, passed the RN boards at 23. Worked for about a year, decided "what the hell?" Went back part time at night for my B.S. in Nursing, worked full time days, got my degree Magna Cum Laude.
So while it did take my about 3 years longer than it would have if I had gone right out of high school, I'm so happy I did it this way. Most nurses in their late 20's can't say they've had over 10 years of nursing experience. And I'm proud to say that I didn't take out any student loans, so I'm debt free

Well I have a BS. (aka bullsh*t) degree in Biotechnology, yes i'm proud of my degree but it was a running joke that the Science majors get BS degrees and the Art/English majors get BA's, yet they do all the bullsh*itting. Going to take GRE's and possibly go get a PhD in Genetics...But that's a couple years away.
Oddly I am terrible at spelling but have absurdly high vocab and reading comp scores, go figure, oh and I minored in English, as my profs said, "you are so lucky we don't grade on spelling and puncuation."

I have a BA in Arts, Entertainment, and Media Management, graduated magna cum laude- but it's a bull**** degree from a bull**** college. At least I can remind myself that I was offered scholarships from NYU, Columbia, and the University of Toronto and chose not to take them.
I hated school- I've thought about going for an MBA, but I don't need it at this point. We'll see.

I have an Associate's Degree in "Specialized Business" (for court reporting). The most college-like course I took while getting that degree was psychology and a beginner's accounting course and anatomy and physiology. I started to go back to night courses towards a bachelor's about 11 years ago, but then my grandfather passed away, and I just couldn't get back into it. I'll always be sorry I don't have a bachelor's.
I've never taken any math class higher than 9th grade algebra, and I got a D in that. My mind just doesn't deal with numbers that well. If someone spouts off a bunch of numbers to me, all I hear is "blah, blah, blah." In a deposition that involves a lot of numbers I have to interrupt a lot to have them repeat them, or ask them to go slow on the numbers. :( But English and spelling? Bring 'em on!

Thanks! :xoxo: The job definitely is NOT for everyone, but I love it. It helps that I don't work at a hospital (hate 'em!), I work at a University Student Health Center. Still fast-paced & ever-changing, but I don't stress out over being short-staffed & wondering if I've accidentally killed someone...
And I was just teasing Lux - she doesn't seem like a "Luxie" to me, that's all.

Hey Brian
Actually it is medical. I have had my license since 1985. It is currently in retired status since I have not done x-rays in 18 years. I refuse to let it expire since I worked hard for that darn degree so every year on my birthday I pay to renew it. I can actually go back into the profession by doing some CEU's which I can waive currently being retired, but I love working in education so I doubt that will happen.
Thanks for asking, it is nice to meet other RT's.

I'm an industrial RT...But industrial RT can be hella horribly dangerous if ya don't understand what yer are trained to do (Which is basically take X-Rays of pipe fittings, Pipeline linkages & Airline pre/post manufacturing using a "camera" which is a GLORIFIED 'roto-rutor" looking contraption, And ya pray to God it doesnt kink up as ya retract it back into its' lead lined casing cause then if that occurs ya get to do the 100 yard dash while carrying a 100 lbs. piece of lead shielding to cover the source and also pray ya didnt get enough RADS to power "Three Mile Island"!!!).
