How is this being a jerk?

I dont think he bears any ill will toward Stevie. He's just going back to that place in time, and describing the way he felt when he wrote the song. That's showbiz.

I went to see Don Henley in Tulsa, OK last night and he had to make a "Witchy" remark about Stevie! Dang! He just can't get her off his mind and as great of a singer he is - he sure can be a jerk! Don was introducing the song "Witchy Woman." He mentioned it was during the time when girls thought they were witches - the good kind ~ before Stevie
I don't get how this is being a jerk?? As far as I can tell they are the best of friends

I agree. And how cool is it that Don Henley (who is a close friend of Stevie Nicks) to give her some free PR at his show? I think it shows an appreciation that people at his show know who she is.

Well, he has a history of hurting her. In the reference he made, it was like she was a witch - and not a good one. She is always having to defend herself about whether or not she is a witch and comments like this - whether it is from Don or anybody else, just isn't necessary. It just kind of put a damper on the concert for me when he said that. It confirmed what I had read in a book about the Eagles and the way he treated her.
If anything, she's the one making it an issue when she defends herself.

Well, if people didn't wrongly accuse her then she wouldn't have to defend herself! DUH!
And if she didn't defend herself over such silly things, it would become even more of a non-issue. And who accuses her of being a witch? I mean, c'mon.

Well, if you dress somewhat like a witch, write witch-like songs, and talk about preminitions, you do set yourself up for the witch jokes.

BEDEVERE:
How do you know she is a witch?
VILLAGER #2:
She looks like one.
CROWD:
Right! Yeah! Yeah!
BEDEVERE:

WITCH:

WITCH:
They dressed me up like this.
CROWD:
Augh, we didn't! We didn't...
WITCH:
And this isn't my nose. It's a false one.
BEDEVERE:
Well?
VILLAGER #1:
Well, we did do the nose.
BEDEVERE:
The nose?
VILLAGER #1:
And the hat, but she is a witch!
VILLAGER #2:

CROWD:
We burn her! Right! Yeaaah! Yeaah!

I can't imagine not responding if people contined to call me a witch. At the same time, I can't imagine taking the whole thing very seriously, either.

Honestly I dont think it bothers her that much..it's not exactly like she's on the cover of US Weekly every week and everyone is debating whether she's a witch...I think it's pretty apparent in her old age, she's just a normal old rock star

I don't think what Don said is anything to get your panties in a bunch about. When people are as good of friends as Stevie and Don are, you can make snide comments and little digs...and the other person just laughs it off. From what I've seen, if anyone has a sense of humor, it's Stevie. I'm sure she would've been laughing her ass off if she were there.

I am sure Stevie can take care of herself. So to speak. I mean, I don't think she drives herself or shops for herself, or does or own laundry or....maybe what I should have said is that she can defend herself
Anyway, isn't calling someone a witch kind of like calling someone the tooth fairy or Santa Claus ? We're talking about mythology and make believe here. I guess if I believed such things existed it might make a ding on my radar.

Gosh ~ I sure feel the love here. Panties in a bunch? Where did that come from? I was the one at the concert and just expressed a little devotion to Stevie and now my panties are in a bunch?? Good Lord..."What's the World Coming to?"
Seriously, you need to calm down. You're being waaaaay too over dramatic.
Everyone here is devoted to Stevie, honey. What Don said was a joke...simple as that. And I call it getting your panties in bunch b/c you seem mad. I'm just saying you don't need to get upset about this. There are bigger things in the world to worry about.
Peace out,
Susie

Don and Stevie are good friends, from all appearances. She even stated in her 9/11 journals that Don was the one she called (after her mother) when she needed a pep talk to continue with the tour.
So Don was probably just being a bit impish in his humour.
Given that he has often been characterized as acting like an ass towards women, I can see why someone would be tempted to take his comment in offense, but I'm sure he didn't mean anything derogatory by it. :)
