I was just listening to an interview with Ryan Adams, not Bryan, on his recent album Rock N Roll (which is my fav album of the year btw) The interviewer stated it was a very guitar driven album and asked which guitar players he was influenced by. Ryan said Johnny Marr, and shockingly Lindsey. He said both of those guys are hard to imitate. I dunno if you guys remember, but I had a post on Adams and how similar he is to Lindsey, like is earlier stuff sounds like Law&Order. I have listened to the RNR album a billion times and I am trying to figure out which songs he tried to emulate Lindsey.

In the meanwhile check this guy out he is ****in awesome.

That's so cool I love Ryan (although I hate Rock N Roll with a passion, it's by far his worst album, IMO, Love Is Hell is way superior).
I've also heard him say that Stevie is one of his heroes (or should that be heroine?), I guess that's why he covered Dreams that time.

  Sometimes the similarity of our tastes is simply scary.

Isn't it sick that I feel proud when great artist like Ryan Adams and Greg Dulli mention Lindsey as an inspiration? ;)

PS everybody should check out Greg Dulli's Twilight singers' cover of What Makes You Think You're The One. In the end he fills in the bambams of Second Hand News. A fabulous cover.

I really like all of She Loves You, especially "Real Love" and WMYTYTO. Soooo goooood.

I don't think Rock n Roll is a terrible record, it's just not very good. There are a few tracks that I really, really like, though- Burning Photographs, Do Miss America, and Anybody Wanna Take Me Home- he could've made one really great record instead of one crappy record and one good record this year.

I have all of his records, and I like RNR the best. His song writing might not be as deep as his other ****, but he straight up rocks out on that album. I am going to see him at the Beacon Theater OCt 1rst.

You can hear the interview on www.losthighwayrecords.com and click artists and then select interviews.

I read an interview with RA once and he was talking about his song "Somehow,Someday" on "Gold".He said he was writing the song with Stevie in mind,if you listen to it you can really tell!

Of the albums I have, I think Gold is his best. R&R is ok. I always skip the first 3 songs. I like "Wish You Were Here" especially the "cotton candy and a rotten mouth, you know you're so f***** up I couldn't help but have it for you." line. LOL. I think Demolition sucks crap. I still need to get his other albums.

If you listen to the lead guitar work on "Too Be Young" and "Burning Photographs" he sounds like Lindsey on the electric.

His former band Whiskeytown was a bit like Fleetwood Mac, they had a female singer too. I have a live version of Dreams they do, not bad.

Thanks for the link
Such a shame the interview is with Zane Lowe, who I hate :(
But what a line-up on Lost Highway these days! The Jayhawks, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams, Ryan.... wow!

I'm sure you'll have a great time at the show. I've seen him a few times (once acoustic!) and he's great live, although sometimes a little self-indulgent. He'll definitely give you your money's worth though.

But only if he is not too drunk.......

He did afterall fall off the stage once and broke his arm...
He posted an MP3 of the track he was playing at the time on his website and it's all nice, then suddenly *crash* he's fallen off the edge! Sounded painful too.

Maybe that's a Stevie hommage! ;) :sorry:

I like Ryan, and Whiskeytown. I love that "California Stars" song...

A few years ago, during SXSW here in Austin, he did a showcase at Stubb's with Kim Ritchie. My friend Lisa and I were in the hospitality room and Ryan and Kim were playing their guitars and just hanging. They were talking about songwriting and Ryan said that you could be inspired by anything, for example, (he sang), "Waitin' on the pizza guy (strum strum)...I'm just waitin' on the pizza guy." To this day, we still sing that for a laugh. :D

Which one? You mean the Wilco/Billy Bragg/Woody Guthrie one?

Aah, sh*t, you're right - I think it is that one! "On a bed, of California stars..." Well, then what's the Whiskeytown song I'm thinking of? Did they do a cover of it?
