Hey all. Like most of you (I'm assuming) I have downloaded a lot of demos and unreleased Stevie songs from the various sites that have mp3s. I have a lot of favourites, including Annabelle Lee, Chanel Chanel, Lady from the Mountain etc etc... some very cool songs I had never heard of before. It's quiet addictive when u realise there are these old but new songs out there, and some of them so bloody good. So, I'm not sure I have every song and I cruise around these sites now and again like a shark trawling for fresh meat (sorry, have been reading reviews of Open Water) and haven't seen anything new for a while.. yet I feel there is a great song I still haven't heard..

So.. what unreleased or demo of stevies do you love most? Which is the one you treasure most? If I've never heard of it, then I'll know to search it out.

cheers, mel :D

My favorites:

Sisters of the Moon Piano Demo: I usually can't stand her piano pounding, but this one is beautiful.
Space Needle: Why she didn't use it for TISL I'll never know.
Something Exquisite: Yeah, it's rather cheesy, but I love it.
Unmastered Storms: Much better than the album version and that's saying a LOT.
Julia 3-1-81: The best version ever. Fantastic vocal.
Lady From the Mountain: Longtime favorite.
Storms Piano Demo with Lindsey: Her voice kinda sucks, but it's neat to hear the two of them working out a song together at the piano.
Joan Of Arc: Very spooky.

ThrownDown.net (http://www.throwndown.net).

I'm a big fan of the piano demo for "Planets of the Universe," called, "No Light." I'd love to hear that that one could be officially released. I've also heard a really great "Gyspy" demo from '80 that's comparatively long and has some different vocals and lyrics, though the vocals are not as loud as they should be. Anyone else familiar with that? And "Something Exquisite" of course.

my favs are always changing but here's a current list

Ooh Ooh Baby - the piano is haunting and I still haven't figured all the words out yet so it keeps me interested

any of the Smile At You Demos - currently it's the Rolling Stone demo and although I was never overly fond of That's Alright the RS demo is very good

Have No Heart - I used to be a big fan of Annabelle Lee, this one is now my current fav of the TISL outtakes and demos

Baby Doll Master - although this was later reworked into Bella Donna, I love this bluesy demo

Belle Fleur - a sentimental favorite. I had always heard of this demo but never got my hands on it until the Internet

Just bootlegs of the songs that were played during the RS photo shoot. Stevie sang along with the tracks. The quality is piss poor.

Call me crazy
but I like
Annabelle Lee (although I think it's FM and not just Stevie)
and I like
Forest of the black Roses too---great song if you are REALLY depressed and need something to remind you of how miserable... you could be....
Does anyone know, is Stevie playing the piano on that song?

(I think it is just Stevie, the piano and despair, recorded on that demo)
I still listen..

I think Reconsider Me is my favorite. I know it was on Enchanted, but it should've been on an album release. It couldve been a single I think. I also liked "Gold & Braid" a lot on Enchanted. She should've done a studio version of that.

Who's this band she's playing with? Many years ago, I told people that this was done in 1979 but they didn't believe me. They scoffed at me & told me to go away. But finally a date surfaced with the master reels & it was indeed done in 1979. (never mind the fact that I thought Lindsey was playing guitar & john bass.) I based my dating solely on Stevie's vocal.

This is more than likely not Fleetwood Mac--it is Tom on bass, I don't know who on guitar (maybe Tom on guitar too) & I'm not sure on drums, although maybe it's Mick. It has a little of that Mick creep in a way, but in other ways it does not remind me of Mick. Stevie herself probably did the piano. Those chords are played the Stevie Way.

Stevie did countless demos with Tom circa 1979.

She Loves Him Still

Oh no...
No one heard her call his name
No one heard a sound she made
They wouldn't have liked it much anyway
To know that she still loves him

No one understands this love...
No one ever will
Till his dying day not even he himself can change this
She loves him still...

I miss my friend...
I miss the sound of his laughter
She remembers him saying...
"Well, where are you going?
Oh, just what is it that you are after?"

No one understands this man...
No one ever will
Till his dying day not even he himself can change this
She loves him still...

"So how are you?
Have you learned to deal with this?"
"Well, oh no, "she says
"No, I have not learned...
You see, I cannot deal without you..."
So the flame still burns...
The flame burns on...

No one understands this love...
No one ever will
Till his dying day
She was heard to say...
She loves him still...

And the sands of time like shattering glass go past her
She still loves him
Oh no, they wouldn't have liked it much anyway
But she still loves him
And the sands of time like shattering glass go past her
Straight back to the sea
She still loves him

Stevie's number one best unreleased song by a Landslide (no pun intended) is All the Beautiful Worlds. This song is the epitome of perfection and far surpasses any other unlreased song IMO. How this song never ended up on an album is beyond me. With some of the other demos I can see why. While many of them are beautiful songs it may have been difficult to find the right production or Stevie may not have been happy with the direction the producers went in or her demo version (or they never made it that far) but ATBW is perfect exactly as we have it, album ready. The question then becomes, why was it left out? Other greats include Channel Channel, Joan of Arc, City of Hope, Ooh Ooh Baby, and Space Needle (but they need a little work). I also think Mirror Mirror should have been officially released on an album instead of just a b-side. Same goes with One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star. Both songs are worthy of far more than b-sides (and yes I know OMBTRARS was on Enchanted but I still think it should have been on an album prior to that).

It isn't. The dates on some of the master reels probably pertained to other things rather than when recorded, or in some cases older songs were grouped with newer songs & the date on the label was for the newer songs.

YES, YES, YES!!! I adore "All the Beautiful Worlds". One of her absolute best! Perfection! Here are some of other favorites:

Running Through The Garden (RAL demo) - This song kicks some serious ass. I love all those layered vocals in the chorus. The SYW version, though very good, can never compare to this one for me. There's so much energy in it!

Tied Up in Promises- Not sure if Stevie wrote this one or not and I do believe it was recorded by someone else (Louise Goffen?). Still, a great song

She Loves Him Still - heartbreakingly beautiful

Stevie's unreleased songs are so much fun to listen to. It's kind of fun to make mix CDs of them...making up new, pretend albums I guess. :D

I've been really out of the Stevie loop for the past several months. My boyfriend is 'allergic', or so he claims, and so I haven't been able to give much ear time to Stevie lately..

My favorite unreleased songs tend to be piano demos...I really like Mistaken Love, Lady From The Mountain and Blue Water. 24 Karat Gold is a favorite...as is All The Beautiful Worlds. For some reason, I love Castaway. Starshine is great too, and I really love The Dealer, She Loves Him Still, Space Needle and All The Kings Horses. Oh, and Chanel Chanel is a neat song.

Does anyone have the b-side version of mirror mirror? I have only a crappy demo of it and it's one of my fave songs.
