Don't get too excited now, but I was just watching the new Purple Rain DVD and Stevie is on there, albeit very briefly. You see her looking very happy arriving at the premiere, smiling and laughing. Her dress looks much better than the photos I've seen of it before, although it still looks a bit wedding dress-ish, and she's carrying purple flowers, so she does look a lot like a bride!

Looking so cheerful on red carpet, who'd thought that later on she and Prince would argue and fall out?

Anyway, if anyone is gonna buy this keep your eyes open, it's on the second disc on the MTV Premiere Party feature.

Thanks for the info! I was thinking about purchasing this anyway, because I just love Prince. Now, I have even more of a reason to purchase it. :)

No Lindsey??

Funny.

Lindsey was there TOO.

He wore sunglasses inside. He tore it apart and said he liked the cinematogrophy and that was it. He was stoned or something.

I wonder how it was going to the same premiere, she as a special guest and he just promoting GO INSANE.

The footage is hilarious but I bet Prince left it out on purpose, because Lindsey said nothing nice.
I have this on tape because MTV aired it live in 1984.

I think he was just appalled at the general trashiness of the event & the violence of the film itself. So in his brief exchange with Mark Goodman, he acted like a bit of a jerk: "It was a gaaaas, man ... a gaaas."

Then he said, "Meanwhile I'll stick to what I know, which is music" -- an obvious little dig at Prince.

The whole thing was a perfect example of Lindsey's feeling alienated from the Hollywood premiere crowd. He doesn't know how to act in such a setting: Should he act mature & risk standing out oddly, or should he pretend to "get with it" & hang loose? What's interesting is that both Lindsey & Stevie had essentially the same reaction to the film: too much kinky sex & violence. They were both uncomfortable watching it. Stevie apparently told Prince she didn't like the scenes of women being hit in the film, & this started some sort of rift between them.

Goodman closed by asking him whether there was anything Lindsey wanted to say about the immediate future plans of Fleetwood Mac. "Not a thing."

 Love the commentary.

Maybe they just didn't like it because it's, simply put, a bad film. But the members of Fleetwood Mac aren't particularly known for their good judgement on what is quality material all the time.

Has anyone else seen this with Lindsey?

I really feel he is on something for sure. When he was outside I mean. Once inside ( still wearing glasses) he seemed just angry...

Well that was still the time when he was open about his coke use. I remember reading a Go Insane-era interview and he says something like "My only vice these days is cocaine, I will admit to that..." or something, which is pretty strange compared to these days.

Actually, that wasn't Lindsey who said that. It was his recently ex-girlfriend who said that in the 1984 Rolling Stone interview.

I don't know if he was on something, but I think I tend to agree with David. Drugged up or not, I think the biggest influence on his demeanor at that movie premiere was his discomfort with the whole scene.

LB is also on the DVD. You can see him in the MTV party very clearly chatting with someone in the background while Wendy & Lisa are being interviewed. I can't tell who he's talking to, but he's very clearly visible on the left side of the screen.
