Well... Dire Straits should be inducted.

So should the Doobie Brothers.

What do you think?

Blondie. Hands down.

BLONDIE. Why they're not in there yet, I haven't a clue.

And since they'll be eligible next year...
U2
The Pretenders

And that's all I can come up with.

Blondie without a doubt. WTF, it's time for Blondie to be eligible? I AM getting older too! LOL :)
I'm not a die-hard fan of theirs but heck - The Moody Blues. They've been wrongly passed over.
Politics?
A local NYC-area DJ was musing about the same sentiment on air the other day after playing them. I totally agree with him.
Some may consider them to be somewhat pompous but they had some great songs and I think they were WAY influential. "Nights in White Satin", "Tuesday Afternoon", "Question" and the like. They deserve it.
I'm brain dead. Ledgies, please enlighten me the Kinks ARE in, right?

I agree with you on Dire Straits and the Pretenders..

Blondie
The Pretenders (it's already been 25 years!)
David Bowie (not sure if he's in there yet)

Daryl Hall & John Oates though they have gotten into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. They have been overlooked for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The Moody Blues
Procol Harum
Tim Buckley
Deep Purple
The Move
Black Sabbath
JJ Cale

King Crimson
Yes
Genesis (if only for what they did with Peter Gabriel)
ELP
(These four aren't likely though [like with the majority in this list] because of the people running the whole thing and because those ex-Rolling Stone/Creem writers have always hated prog and obvious European influences in their oh so pure three-chord folk music in general.)

Roxy Music
Sparks (I can dream, can't I?)
Bob Welch (since he really wasn't inducted with Fleetwood Mac)
Kraftwerk
(*cut*, too many inclusions.)

And I really can't believe that they haven't included Carol Kaye as a side(wo)man yet.

Inducted in 1990, yes.

How about Stevie, as a solo act? What an original idea from me.

Is Heart in there yet? Not so much for their 80s stuff, but some of their 70s stuff was good.

Blondie should be in there too, I can't figure out why they still aren't in there.

Politics could be a problem with a few of the bands, I remember The Mamas and the Papas were not inducted for quite a while due to politics.

Righto Face! How could I have forgotten Yes? "I've Seen All Good People/Your Move" is like one of my favorite songs of all time. I also like their late 80's stuff. Did you know that it's rumored that "Love Will Find A Way" (Trevor Rabin) was going to be recorded by Stevie? If anyone knows the definitive story on this, please share!
Oh yeah, and what's the rule to be eligible....your first record had to be 20 or 25 years ago???

Ever caught the acoustic "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" that they've been playing on tour this year? That was fun, and even a bit radical.

I've heard the rumour but nothing else. What I would have wanted to see was Stevie working with Trevor HORN in the mid-'80s, instead of just recording "Docklands" much later.

25 years, true. Stevie's ready for it in 2006, let's hope the few guys with the power to put her in like her.

Politics could be a problem with a few of the bands...
Having a radical left-wing stance in the '70s was a big thing to some of those RS & Creem writers (that's why they loved punk, for instance) so it definitely influenced their opinions (and hell, some of them are in charge in the R'n'R HoF now like I said). You just couldn't listen to stuff like Abba, Carpenters or even Fleetwood Mac if you wanted to retain your credibility in front of them and wanted not to be associated with the average middle-class America.

A bit earlier than that actually. If you like Becker's and Fagen's sense of humour, you might want to check out the "crusade" for their induction (http://www.steelydan.com/hof.html). I know I got a kick out of it.

For some reason, I don't see the likes of Street Angel, Rock A Little, and the Other Side of the Mirror helping her get inducted anytime soon.

I wish Donna Summer would be inducted. She was the 70s.

Nevertheless, not hardly any any women in recent memory can match her accomplishment, and also, as a charismatic force of nature :D and looking at her longlived popularity...platinum, platinum, gold, gold, etc...well, lets just say i think she's more than deserving of going in.

I think it's too early for her to be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a solo artist, sorry. I think they should wait quite a few more years (which I'm positive they will because she won't be eligible for at least two more years). They just inducted her in '98, I don't think they're itching to do it again soon. A few more years will make it all the more special.

Sure, in 2006, perfect...after all, the sooner she sings that song that they get to do in front of everyone, the better it will probably turn out

I refuse to acknowledge the "Crock & Blow Hall Of Shame" after a year where Queen & Black Sabbath were snubbed in favor of Madonna (Nuthin' against Madonna by-the-way)...Sorry, "Dont Think So".

Nicky Hopkins should probably be on that list. He played with almost every top British band in the 60's.

Genesis for sure. Maybe Phil's tour will help that.

Blondie as well. I see the both of these bands getting in very soon.

I also think ABBA. Hell, everyone knows WHO they are and they came out 1974 officially so why aren't they in? The BeeGees got in.

Queen. I am baffled that they've not been inducted. Is that true? That's sad.
And then, of course, U2. They are in fact being inducted in 2005, and I am going to be in attendance (or at least standing outside the building).
Rumors tell me they might also be MTV's Icon this year. I am less excited about this. Crappy bands doing U2 covers? No thanks.
