These are my personal unforgettable moments in music history:
1. When Eurythmics performed on the Grammy Awards in 1982(83?).
I had the album and was always playing it, and my Mom really liked "Sweet Dreams". Then, when Annie Lennox appeared on the show as some kind of drag king/pseudo-Elvis impersonator, Mom looked at me and shrieked, "I thought that was a woman singing that song!!!"
2. My Dad discovers the real Boy George.
I was more of a Duran Duran and INXS fan than Culture Club. I liked the music, but my closeted 13 year-old self just couldn't handle the image. My Dad heard "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?" on the radio and walked around singing it for weeks. Imagine a VERY masculine man mowing the back yard shirtless, singing the song loudly over the drone of the mower... Anyway, I was in the local K-Mart with my family one weekend, looking to see if Stevie's "If Anyone Falls" single had come in, and my Dad walked up. Thinking he might like it, I picked up CC's "Kissing To Be Clever" album and asked if Dad wanted me to get it since he liked the song so much. He was clearly dumbfounded and shocked at the cover, and asked which song I was talking about. I sang a little bit of it, and he shrieked, "I thought a man sang that song!!!"
3. No more drag queens/kings, just good old Stevie.
I got front row tickets to the TITN show in Houston in 1987. I was halfway between Stevie and Christine, and they both watched me smile and sing and dance all night. Enuff said...

Of course for me it was when George Harrison died. I remember Linda McCartney dying as well. So, that is included I guess.

IMHO, I don't think BorW video was big deal. It was cool, but it's when MJ started to give too much ad for his videos and albums. I would mention THRILLER (the video, the selling records, the grammies) instead.

Kurt Cobain's suicide
"suicide" is still debatable. I'm convinced he was murdered (with Courtney having a BIG hand in it)

Ones I actually remember:
Madonna: LAV at the MTV awards, hearing about her "banned" video from MTV, Her actually winning a GG for Evita and finally gettig a Grammy for Ray of Light, and basically just for being Madonna.
George Harrison Dying:(
The Beatles Anthology being released.
9/11 concerts and telethons
MJ: Thriller, Child Molestation charges.
FM reuniting 1997, then a new album in 2003 and for me seeing my first large rock concert:)
Eagles reuniting
Gloria Estefan: Bus incident
Sure theres other stuff but this will have to do for now...

to list, But a few that affected me as a fan:
Freddie Mercury's passing (Some rumor started that Freddie committed suicide...Never figured that one out because it just seems unrealistic!)
John Lennon's murder (I have an interview with John & Yoko taken the afternoon of Dec.8,1980 this is very sad but yet eerie to listen too...)
George Harrison's passing

Besides the ones already mentioned, here are a few:
(1) In 1984, I remember watching Madonna performing "Like a Virgin" on the MTV Music Awards in a wedding dress and rolling around on the floor.
(2) In 1984, when many artists, including Lindsey, united to sing "We Are the World" for USA for Africa.
(3) In 1981, when MTV premiered with "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles. That was very important. I think that really changed rock in a lot of ways.
(4) In 1982, when Thriller by Michael Jackson came out.

Well I guess when you're 11 and see your first music video on tv ever (we didn't have cable) and there's some guy smashing things a grabbing his crotch... I dunno, I think that was the beginning of the end of my innocence.
Also, because it was my fist music video, it had an impact on me personally. I had never seen or even heard of music videos before that and suddenly there was this whole other 'form' of music - it was intriguing...
I don't really remember Thriller as being a big deal, but then again, I was only 2 so...

My childhood ended when John Lennon was shot.
My adulthood began when Kurt Cobain died.
Other things that stick out in my memory...
When the people were trampled at The Who concert, when Slash said the "F" word on the Grammy's TV show, when Metallica lost to Jethro Tull for Best Metal album at the Grammy's,when Vince Neil got into the car crash that killed the Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle, when Randy Rhoads(sp?) died, when Ozzy bit the head off the bird and the bat, when Steve Clarke from Def Leppard died, the first time Eric Clapton's acoustic "Layla" was performed, when Freddie Mercury form Queen died AND who could EVER forget the first time we saw and EXPERIENCED the almost profound Dance "Silver Springs" performance?

My computer is freaking out and I can't seem to be able to go back and edit my posts:( To elbaborate on the "unforgettableness" of my first time of seeing The Dance - I had people over, two of them were BIG men, one an ex-football player the other a biker. Both of them were choked up and had tears in their eyes after experiencing "Silver Springs" and BOTH of them were not FM fans before. It was amazing for me to watch the performance MYSELF but to see these two pillars of masculinity reduced to jello just FLOORED me!!!
Honorable mention - Page/Plant's re-emergence in the mid/late 90's - I was expecting to see a Geritol rehash of old hits, but was pleasantly surprised to hear Plant hitting those notes in "Kashmir" and to hear the new slants on old tunes....and added somewhat plus were the couple of new things they did....

Has no-one mentioned Mick Fleetwood 'presenting' the Brit Awards? LOL!
Talking of Brit awards another memorable moment was when Jarvis Cocker of Pulp got on stage when Michael Jackson was performing...anyone else remember that?

Wasn't he with that oh so talented tart Samantha Fox
As for me:
Led Zepplin - anytime anywhere - to quote Stevie "really almost too much talent on stage"
The advent of MTV (and the drama surrounding it), which soon lead to the magnificent Gypsy video, which I maintain soldified La Nicks in the pop culture icon status.
Nirvana - never really been anything like them since IMO
Silver Springs in The Dance performance - SHEEBUS
On a larger scale, Elvis P. and The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show.
There are many more, some of which have already been mentioned.
