No Joke, Twins' Act Needs Work
The Bush daughters, fresh from their booing this week at the MTV Video Music Awards in Miami, came onstage at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday night and introduced a new strategy in the war on terrorism: giggling.
They were there to introduce their father, President Bush, who appeared via satellite from Pennsylvania, where he stood in front of a softball game and introduced First Lady Laura Bush.
But there were hiccups along the way to the first lady's entrance, courtesy of her 22-year-old twin daughters, who carry themselves with an implied raunch.
The Republicans, you were reminded, are really good at chest-thumping and flag-hugging, but they ought to stay away from showcasing their privileged, Prada-wearing first daughters until the campaign is over. After the speeches were over, even CNN's talking heads seemed to be struggling to make sense of the sisters' sister act. Judy Woodruff stammered, "I'm not sure what that was about" while an incensed Jeff Greenfield called the appearance a "frankly discordant moment."

SEPTEMBER 1, 2004
A NOT-SO-NEUTRAL CORNER
By Ciro Scotti
Most embarrassing moment: Being introduced by the Duh Twins, Jenna and Barbara, a pair ditsy enough to make Jessica Simpson seem like Ayn Rand (   ). The girls weren't kidding when they said: "You know all those times when your parents embarrass you? Well, it's payback time -- on live TV."

From the New York Post, of all place (!):
September 1, 2004 -- The Bush twins made their national television debut last night — with a string of weak one-liners that drew cringes from the crowd and at one point brought a soft rebuke from their grandparents.
The twins, Barbara and Jenna Bush, had the job of introducing President Bush, who in turn introduced First Lady Laura Bush. For much of their brief time on stage, the twins seemed to amuse themselves more than the crowd.
Some delegates in Madison Square Garden seemed startled when Jenna Bush accused her beloved grandmother Barbara of being too opinionated, hating their clothes and being out of touch with pop culture. "She thinks, 'Sex and the City' is something married people do, but never talk about," Jenna said.
President George H. W. Bush smiled and wagged his finger at his granddaughter, as if to say "shame."
They also referenced a speech given at the Democratic convention by the daughters of their father's opponent, John Kerry, by saying they, too, had a hamster. But unlike in the Kerry household, where the presidential candidate jumped into the water to save the family pet, "let's just say ours didn't make it," Barbara Bush said.

Too many drinks before showtime I guess...
Jenna definitely has that doofus Dubya grin and Barbara is the picture perfect copy of her mother's blank Stepford Wife-esque stare.
I wonder if Barbara got straight Cs/Ds at Yale like her father did?
Chelsea Clinton may have been awkward while growing up in the White House, but at least she has a brain in her head. These Bush twins are brash and arrogant just like their father. I'm sure their grandmother was cringing with embarrassment

The Queen Bitch? From what I've read over the years, Dubya is her son, so she was probably going ga-ga over the two little drunks.

If those girls were from a less-wealthy family, their future careers would involve polished poles and money-stuffed g-strings, rather than political polls, money-laundering, and G-Men.

Off topic- but who the hell cares....
Loving the avatar, Merf!!! Paul Hamm is hot, hot, HOT!!!!
He's SUCH eye candy, but then he opens his mouth and.... Oh, well... some people are turned on by those squeaky, faggy, dwarven gymnastic voices. However, I prefer a more purring, masculine voice myself.
I kept hoping for some better crotch shots from him during the games, but alas- no luck!

Oh my, he sounds like he has his BVDs on way too tight. And he should be stripped of his gold medal. But, then again, I find American participation in the Olympics abhorrent. The Sweatshop Chic products used are a disgrace.

I do not think it would be at all fair for Hamm to be stripped of his medal.
He didn't do anything deserving of that. He didn't cheat, he didn't engage in improper behaviour, etc.
It was the judges' fault, not the athlete's. And, as such, a duplicate Gold Medal should be awarded to Yang Tae Young, while allowing Hamm to keep his.
When you think about it, no one is asking Kim Dae Eunto to give up his Silver Medal, when he actually won the Bronze Medal by all rights.
So why is it fair to ask Hamm to give up his Gold?

Because a mistake was made by the judges. No, he didn't cheat or engage in improper behavior, but he didn't win the medal, either. He's never going to be stripped of his medal, we all know this. But he didn't win his medal, the other man did. And this is just my opinion, but I didn't think Hamm was very good. :sorry:

Well, I thought he kicked ASS (and a nice one at that) on the high bar and the floor excercise. I kept rewinding the TiVo on that high bar routine over, and over, and over!

Yeah, but when you take all of his performances and put them together, he was very sporadic and inconsistent. There was a error when tallying the votes, it's obvious the medal should have been given to the other man. If soemone wins the lottery and then cashes the check, they don't get to keep the money if it's discovered that they were one number off. ;)

Whether or not he keeps his gold medal, I don't care. His vault performance in the all-around totally sucked.
Then again, I could care less about the whole Olympics thing- I was just watching it for the eye candy... Gymnastics, Greco/Roman Wrestling, Swimming and Rowing (!). :blob2:

HAH! No kidding.
I guess the Bush camp thought they would take a cue from J. Kerry's daughters and put the girls up to make an intro.- BAD move. Those girls CAN NOT hold a candle to the Kerry's. But whatever....I just want to vote already!

I find this shocking! The man went from 12th to 1st for gosh's sakes.
He had an amazing comeback, with two gold-medal worthy performances on the parallel bars and the high bar. All I'm going to say about the controversy is that Paul should NOT have to pay for the mistake of the judges... asking him to give back his gold medal is akin to rewinding tape from Super Bowl 38 and saying "ooooh, that should have been a penalty, the Panthers should have gotten the ball back here, so here you go, here's the Super Bowl title." This is why instant replay (etc.) is not used in gymnastics.
I agree that the gymnastics competition was like a circus this year, though. The judges raising the score of the Russian because the crowd would not stop booing was absolutely deplorable. And the fact that Paul had to wait for the crowd to stop booing before he could perform the high bar (akin to "icing" the kicker in football) and he still walked away with the silver medal on that apparatus-- it just shows again how great of a gymnast he really is. I love him and I admire him for sticking to his guns. I also feel quite sorry for him that his gold medal will always be tainted. It is not his fault!
