My company's contract expired today and we went for our meeting tonight. Most of us did not like the new contract. Most of the dispute was due to the "benefits" that they were going to give us. We needed a 2/3rds vote to strike and that's exactly what we got. We don't know if we will even have to hit the pavement but the whole thing is scary. We were told that if we do we would not be covered under any health insurance.
I hope that the whole thing is resolved tomorrow but you never know.

Yeah, but it seems like the company AND the union are both.

Well...just be glad you don't live in a "right to work" state.

Wow - crazy! I've never known anyone who actually worked for an organization where a strike was (maybe) about to happen...but I do hope it gets resolved before you all have to go to full strike mode...good luck.

Pattie- check with your state employment agency about that - it may not be legal.

That really stinks. I hope it all works out.

I worked for a company where the factory went on strike and we had to cross the picket line...that was the closest I ever got.

I wish you the best!!

More talks tonight. The union and the company are bringing in a federal mediator.
Livia, I think that the statement made about termination of coverage was a scare tactic by the union. Our present provider covers us until Oct 1st.
The whole thing is crazy. I just hope that it will be resolved soon. The VP said that we can walk if we want.
The big deal is over our health benefits, which were like the Cadillac of coverage, and now they want to give us a Yugo. They also want us to pay for the new coverage. I have been there 9 and 1/2 years and never had to pay a dime for health coverage. If I am going to pay I want the best.

of a Union walkout in a factory I once worked in, Man those folks were the BIGGEST IDIOTS I have ever encountered...Made the infamous Jonathan "The Toad" Todd likeable by comparison.

The Union didnt say s**t to us "Contract workers" (ie-Non SCAB workers who were privately contracted) but we enjoyed watchin' 'em makes asses outta themselves, Especially when the Union's local headman played a real-life Steve Miller song when he took the Union fees/money (Payed by the Moronic mass of workers) & ran

We were instructed by our supervisor to NOT stop your vehicle when one of the strikin' PUTZ walked in front of us since they would be on "private property", It was okay to stomp the accelerator!

I remember watching in enjoyment as one of the striking losers yelled a racial statement at a big-brotha (I say the brotha looked like Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens...In other words a big mo-fo) who was a "replacement" worker and watching the mother-of-all-ass-kickings happen as the fellow UNION Picketers were too f**kin' scared to help their fallen (And unconscious) Union member have his brains splattered on the cement.

They tried & tried to get me to join their JOKE of a union...But I let em know what the letters of their UNION were spelt out to mean:

U-U
A-Ain't
W-Workin'

They never bothered me again...

I am proud to say I have never crossed a picket line and I've been peripherally involved in two strikes...and I never will

I tell my bosses right off the bat if they have a union, I will not cross a picket line...

Good Luck Pattie and start tightening the budget belt, good healthcare is worth a good strike!!

"the good ole days are gone when you could hit someone with a brick for crossing a picket line or "scabbing" work off a strike"

I am happy to report that the dispute over the contract has been resolved! :blob1:

The whole thing was totally crazy but we basically got what we wanted. For a while I was really scared that we would all be fired but everything worked out.
