NEW "Tusk" Survivor - GAME ON!

The New Rules:

We're starting over and have implemented a few new rules, most of which more closely mimic the real Survivor and a couple of which serve to make things easier and more organized. Please familiarize yourself with these rules because these are the standards by which votes will be counted.


The way the hosts post: We will always post official results in the same manner (+4 Red) and our goal is to make it easy for you guys to follow what’s going on. So if you’re confused, look for our posts. We will announce a) when the voting period has begun and ended b) who has immunity and c) results.

VOTING:

- Voting periods begin AFTER immunity is assigned and ends at 9:00 EST that night. Either rezamatic or I will post an official beginning and ending announcement. If your votes are before or after those posts, then they do not count. See below for how immunity works.

- When you vote, type 1) The round number and 2) the name of the song in your subject line and ONLY that. We will tally the votes by the subject line, so if it ain’t in the subject it doesn’t count! Otherwise, feel free to converse however you like. But please try to keep the constant arguing and back-and-forth to a minimum just so it's easier for people to keep track of votes!

- Votes can NOT be changed once they’re posted. We count your first vote and that is all.

- If there is a tiebreaker, then ALL votes from ALL previous rounds are tallied and whoever has the most prior votes is eliminated. That’s the way it’s done on the real show, that’s the way it’s done here. If there is a complete tie with prior votes (Murphy’s Law), then we’ll have a sudden-death immunity question ready which will allow someone to make the call themselves between those two (or more) songs.

IMMUNITY:

- After we tally the scores, we will announce the results and post an immunity question/puzzle/etc. and await a response post. In order to be considered, the answering post must containing both the following: 1) the correct answer and 2) the choice for immunity. When we get that post, it will then be VERIFIED by us in bright red letters confirming who has immunity this round. So again, if we haven’t posted, nothing is official! Once we confirm immunity, the voting period begins.

The next post will contain the results of the preliminary round and demonstrate to you how the official posts will look. After that, I will post a vote that will demonstrate to you how that will be done as well.

Once we get through a few rounds, we'll probably get a new thread going just to keep things easy. When things get cluttered, we want to make sure you can still read/follow votes and such. We just don't want to swarm the boards with one specific topic, as Nancy said. Keeping it in the subject line helps out bigtime when we tally.

I completely agree with Saradorna that SMAP is not the worst song on Tusk nor do I give into any SMAP hating around here. Plain and simple: a vote for SMAP is a vote against the possibility that SMAP is in the top three or two or even one simply because it seems that SMAP fans are good with the fast finger immunity typing. I would hate to see round after round of SMAP with immunity when I would normally vote to evict it after the second or third round.

Think of it as a preemptive strike against the confusion of the last game.

Sara isn't "so hated." In my opinion it's one of the main favorites of the Stevie fan community. I am not, however, voting for it in strategy, but because it's my least favorite on Tusk. No, I am not kidding, or I would not have just said that. Seriously speaking, it is too slow, monotonous, and exhibits few of the artistic and creative nuances I enjoy in Stevie's work; namely, I miss the emotion, and climactic elements that make her songwriting beautiful (ie Silver Springs, GDW, Storms.) The end result is a bathos that puts me to sleep when I decide not to skip it (which is not often.) Not to mention she says "drownding" :shocked:

Now feel free to fire away, but I will continue to vote until Sara is gone because it is mundane and certainly not extraordinary. (This is obviously my personal opinion or I wouldn't be saying it.)

Actually, I've always thought Chris referred to sex quite a bit in her songs. (Albeit probably not in the "erotic" way Stevie does.) Someone else could easily say...How anyone could think never forget is crap is beyond me....It's a shame everyone guns for the beautiful, subtle, songs and defends Lindsey songs...believe me, i love some of Lindsey's "interesting" songs on Tusk, I just don't enjoy listening to SMAP - to me, the "interesting" he tried to do on this one didn't turn out very musically compelling...lyrically, it's ok...but musically I think he accomplished something better on other similar songs....

I'm totally in your corner where "That's All For Everyone," "That's Enough For Me," "Walk A Thin Line," "The Ledge" and "Not That Funny" are concerned. Those are all incredible and interesting songs, that deserve to stay and fight to the very end.

"That's All For Everyone" is the song I feel is most deserving of all of our praise, and the song that deserved a battle to save it from elimination.

"TAFE" so beautifully conveys the genius of Lindsey's 'Tusk' mindset and approach, while "SMAP" falls on its face.

This is all, of course, only my opinion. But, for me, "TAFE" succeeds in all the places "SMAP" fails. :shrug:

1. concentrate on the bassline. It adds a great counterpart to the drifting melodyline.
2. The "moaning" ,irritating tempo is purely used for the also "out of focus" backing vocals (they never start or end in sync.)
3. Think about this: The song really is never in a beat. It's contrasting everywhere.

I can understand that people think that all is irritating, but if you closely listen to what he's doing there the songs' depth can open itself for you.

Not that I think that will happen to you, but it happened to me that way. I hated it at first (in 1979), too.

I actually don't take it personally at all - I think it's fun! I pretty much like every track on Tusk, but of course some more than others. Although I admit I can't help but feel disappointed when people call certain tracks crap just because they're not typical Fleetwood Mac songs, but all in all, iI still think it's just a fun game :)

Yeah, but the point is I never said Never Forget is crap but you must admit it's McVie by numbers, at least SMAP shows yet another side to Buckingham. I remember how unique and exciting it sounded back when I first heard it, because all of I knew of him was the shiny Cali-pop-rock for which he became famous.
Plus I think SMAP is beautiful and subtle, much more so than the sappy Never Forget (which I'd just like to add I quite enjoy). At least Johnny Stew just says it doesn't do it for him, but to say it's crap is something else altogether.
And don't dismiss "interesting" either. The reason Tusk is a masterpiece is because it's musically diverse and, yes, interesting.
But this of course is just my opinion :)
I didn't mean to dismiss "interesting". But i just don't think SMAP is incredibly interesting. I think some of his cali-pop songs are more musically complex. And part of the reason TUSK is diverse is the other singer/songwriters. And although I love many of LIndsey's songs on TUSK, to me, they sound similar to each other. Like, I think, if only lindsey's songs were on there, the album would have been interesting, but not diverse...if you can understand what i mean. I'm glad you think smap is beautiful and subtle. I find it hard to appreciate as much as some other songs with a more pleasing melodic sound. I don't think smap is crap, either, but just as you were with the other post I quoted, we're all trying to make a point in favor of whatever we like. I'm glad people like a bunch of different songs, otherwise there wouldn't be millions o' billions o' fans, and we all wouldn't have gotten to see the concerts or be here talking about FMAC. Yup, that's a very good point. We talked about this - we're planning on starting up a new thread every few rounds or so, just so we aren't cluttering the board with threads every time we start a new round. If we have something important to post as hosts, then we post in large red font, so hopefully that'll help you spot them quicker. After this next round we'll start a new thread.
