So, I went into the city tonight and there are tons of tourists not just from this country but from out of the country as well. Then, I came home and turned on the opening ceremonies of the Olympics and it got me thinking...what nationality/nationalities are everyone made up of? Me, i'm Italian (dad is 100%, biological grandfather still lives in Italy) as well as Irish, German, Scottish, French (and that's all we've traced...my mom's side is very confusing). What about you?

87,5% Finnish. 12,5% comes from a shady Russian salesman who sometimes crossed the border for the good old "in-and-out" game. This should explain the content of most of my posts. :p

My great grandparents on my dad's side came over from Germany, and I don't know how far back my family on my mom's side came over, but they are German, too. So, I guess I'm an AMERICAN with at little bit of German in me.

The Maori's are the native New Zealanders. Actually that's a lie, there're not the natives but they were the ones living there when it was settled. They're the scary, ones, the ones who put up the best fight to the settlers. Well they were fearsome warrior cannibals who I was lead to believe were dangerous to me......but then my mother is unintentionally racist and we came from a staunchly British/Scottish part of NZ. Anyway, the Maoriori's were the native New Zealanders but unfortunately the Maori's killed all them off. I don't think any still exist today. Ah ha, see the Brits aren't always the ones to blame.

Well that was a patronising post. Your poorly equipped teacher shall not be returning.

oh good grief this is getting far too technical for me!!
I take it your'e from Christchurch then Lux?
To set the record straight, I'm a white kiwi, my mum is an Aussie and both grannies came from the Uk ( how mixed up British they were, I have no idea!)
oh and DOR, thanks,I class myself as a kiwi..haha

Actually the native Australians are the Aboriginals. Australia was settled by the Brits who brought over Irish convicts to dump here. Although that crap about Australia being full of criminals is nonsense because firstly they weren't really criminals, secondly we're mostly British and on another point, the resultant concept isn't that different from those who fled to America due to an incapacity to follow British law.

The Maori's are the native New Zealanders. Actually that's a lie, there're not the natives but they were the ones living there when it was settled. That's what i thought - you notice the Americans mainly say they are Italian, or German, or Irish, or whatever...I thought the Aussies and New Zealanders would do the same thing, since it is a settled country in the same way. Unless, of course, they said "I'm native australian" Like i am native american...see?

Did I tell you this already, or could you just guess by the description? Yes I am from Christchurch. Oh and I want to clarify that I don't dislike Maori's at all, I just brought up to be weary of them because of some misguided belief.

Heheeee..I know a bit of NZ geography and history... :)

1/2 Germanic stock
1/2 Galician(it's like a mixture of Polish/Ukrainian),White Russian ancestry
AND I'm 1/64 Sicilian - don't laugh, a doctor told me I have a gene that's only found in Greeks, Sicilians and Blacks and after interrogating my mother and father I found out from my father that one of my great-grandmother's great-grandmothers fled Siracusa Sicily during the Napoleonic Wars and settled in the Ukraine because the farming was good. I did my math and challenged him on how it could be great-granny's great-grandmother and he reminded me that back then, women had babies when they were like 15 years old and that was it. Another interesting tidbit, one of my great-grandfathers was Belgium's ambassador to Ceylon/Sri Lanka.

mostly german....

my dad is 100% german (and he's 3rd generation too, kind of hard to be 100% after that many generations in the U.S. but my family seeks them out for breeding purposes or something... all the women are blond haired, blue eyed, short, and fat... and can make a good strudel and drink a lot of beer- and the men are all tall basketball players)

my mother is french and dutch, a bit of german and a bit of irish and english. good grief with her hot headed frenchman temper, and irish temper.... watch out!

so, I'm more than half german, equal parts french of dutch, and some irish and english.

Seriously, I need to do some genealogy searching because I am really interested in my Cherokee heritage.

about 99 % Dutch. I did some genealogy research a while ago, and on my mother's side, almost everyone lived in the same little village in Groningen, for at least ten generations. Uh, but I haven't detected any inbreeding there yet :o There are a couple of German ancestors, but that's at least 8 generations back.
