This was about impossible for me! I grew up and went to junior high/part of high school in the 80s. Therefore, there were too many songs I thought were important, for one reason or another. I have left out so many. Here are some of the ones I thought of aside from Stevie and Lindsey projects/Fleetwood Mac stuff produced in the 80s. Here goes in no particular order:

1. Tracy Chapman---"Fast Car"

2. Modern English--------"I Melt With You"

3. Tom Petty----"The Waiting"

4. Violent Femmes----"Add It Up "or "Kiss Off"

5. Heart-----"What About Love"

6. The Cars-------"Let's Go"

7. Duran Duran---------"Hungry Like the Wolf"

8. Prince----well......anything, but can only pick one so "When Doves Cry"

9. Eurythmics-----"Missionary Man"

10. John Lennon--------"Watching the Wheels"

Hair Band Song------Poison------"Talk Dirty to Me"

As for albums...entire albums of great 80's stuff, I dunno, there are a few that are in my general top 10 ever. 1 being Talking Heads, Stop Making Sense.

As Amber pointed out, Sinead O'Connor's Lion & The Cobra, is still a phenomenal record, to this day. Remember when she first came out?! Damn. lol Shame she's off the general masses radar as influential and amazing. I adore her (well, her music) even now.

Also Kate Bush's Hounds Of Love, but I thought that was late 70's. Can't recall, and can't find cd. It's been missing for about a month =0(

4.) Loverboy - "Working for the Weekend"
3.) Boston - "More Than a Feeling"
2.) Boston - "Peace of Mind"
1.) Journey - "Don't Stop Believin'"

(I admit 3 of these are actually from the '70s, but i.m.o. they were still very popular in the '80s and sort of have
an "80s feel" about them. For the purists, I'll substitute "Big City Nights" by The Scorpions, "Maneater" by Hall & Oates,
and "Subdivisions" by Rush.)

Possibly thinking of 1992 Sundays' cover?

There's a good chance it's that version. Garbospeaks, male or female vocal?

Also Kate Bush's Hounds Of Love, but I thought that was late 70's. Can't recall, and can't find cd. It's been missing for about a month =0(

Hounds Of Love is 1985. Definitely an 80s album.

Wow, to think that a virtual stranger out there thinks there is someone really that dumb. lol
The mere fact I thought song was also called Wild Horses, like the Rolling Stones song, was totally a duh moment. That I REALLY do know there is a song by the RS called that, and would try and add it to a list of fav 80's song, quite another thing.
The song is "Goodbye Horses" by Q. Lazzarus
Anyone who doesn't think they know that song, would realize they do if they've seen Silence Of The Lambs. =0)
Thanks all for the help though. <3

I can't do songs/singles -- IMPOSSIBLE (though "True Faith" by New Order is obviously the greatest single of the decade). I decided to do albums!

The 10-12 Best Albums Of The 1980s (one album per artist)

1. Remain In Light (1980), Talking Heads
2. Cupid & Psyche '85 (1985), Scritti Politti
3. Perhaps* (1985), Associates
4. Strangeways, Here We Come (1987), The Smiths
5. Viva Hate (1988), Morrissey
6. Hounds of Love (1985), Kate Bush
7. Playing With A Different Sex* (1981), The Au Pairs
8. London Calling (1980), The Clash
9. Take It Off (1981), Chic
10. Brotherhood (1986), New Order
11. It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back (1988), Public Enemy
12. Get Happy!! (1980), Elvis Costello

*Import (thus, for US Releases only, they should be deleted, and 11 and 12 would fill out the Top 10)

1. Crazy for You- Madonna
2. Just Like Heaven- The Cure

^^I could add plenty of FM/SN hits from this genre, but for me the 80's is the 80's. A lot of the music we are all putting here. Lots of "alternative", synthed music, etc. There was plenty of soul/R&B, and R&R, but for me the 80's are really that 80's sound that our lists mostly comprise.
The fact that the Mac, and it's members were all contributors thru-out the 80's was icing on the cake, but for me, FM is the 70's, and all this stuff is the 80's. But yea, omitting them from my fav list is difficult :( I especially love Trouble.

Alan Parsons Project: Eye in the Sky, Prime Time, Anything on the album Vulture Culture
The Police: Synchronicity album, Ghost in the Machine album
Supertramp: Breakfast in America, Rudy, It's Raining Again
Dire Straits: Walk of Life, Sultans of Swing
Springsteen: Born in the USA album-not a dud on it!
OMD: the song in the movie Pretty in Pink-I forget the name of it
Yaz-Winter Kills
Yes-Changes, Owner of a Broken Heart
Fixx-Say What You Mean
Van Halen-Jump
Ric Ocasek: Emotion in Motion
Don Henley-Boys of Summer
Journey: Forever Yours Faithfully
XTC-Oh God

What a great decade it was for music!

Indeed it was.

Today marks seven years since Ric left us. Though I have to say that my favorite Cars song is Drive, sung by Benjamin Orr, who also left us, in 2000.

Seriously, I do.

Why not 2014? Regardless of what might have been going on behind the scene, you know, between those two, we got Christine back.

And although he looked very thin, I was happy to see John recovered enough to go on the road.
