I am truly bored at work today and was sitting here thinking about my canine/feline kiddos at home and got to wondering if you all have pets. If so, how many? What kind? Names? Cute stories?

I have three dogs (Barnum, Carri and Tiger) and one cat, Gypsy aka Doody. They are all rescued animals. Barnum is 7, Carri and Tiger are 5 and Gypsy is 3. Barnum and Tiger are lab mixes, Carri is a shepherd mix and Gypsy is a cute little calico/tortoiseshell kitty. I love 'em!!!!!!

Yeah, I have one English Cocker Spaniel (yes, there is a difference between English and American Cocker Spaniel), wich is almost 12. Another dog that a friend found on the street and thought for some reason we'd want her, and of course we did, wich is probably around 4.

I also have a siamese cat, she's 10. A black one (wich is the cutest thing), he's 3 and a half, and a grey cat, almost 4, very boring at times, and for most times she won't even let you touch her, that's when she's not being boring... ;)

:.edit - forgot to put their ages.:

Jacob, Chelsea sounds like my Carri. She will growl at you to get your attention and to tell you what she wants and sometimes, I think, just to hear herself "talk"!

What is the difference? I don't know a lot about purebred dogs, I'm a mutt lover.

I like mutts too! Well the differences are that English Cocker Spaniels are a bit bigger (38-41 cm) than the American ones (36-38 cm) and their face is different, the Americans have a shorter nose and bigger eyes.

You're welcome Patti.

I like Pomeranians, they are so cute, although I could never have one, they have too much fur for the weather where I live. It's hard for my Cocker when it's summer. :(

I have two cats, Beavis and Violet. Beavis is 9 years old and Violet is 2. She's a riot. Very playful and loving. She allows all the neighborhood kids to pick her up, carry her around and play with her. Beavis runs and hides under the bed whenever kids are around. Yes, he's named after MTV's Beavis & Butthead. At the time we also had a dog (lab-shepherd mix) and my husband wanted to rename the dog Butthead, but I nixed that. We had to get rid of the dog after he became aggressive towards our daughter. Beavis is more my baby than Violet. I'm the only one allowed to hold him, and he sleeps right next to me. Violet is my daughter's, but isn't allowed to sleep with her because she plays with my daughter's feet and keeps her awake.

Violet is all white, and Beavis is tan and white. And they both shed. A lot. :(

I love cats.....

I have 2 on purpose cats and one accidental.

My favorite cat is named Spanky - I named him after my ex, who's name was Jason....you figure it out. He is Norwegian Forest Cat - Tuxedo variety (white chin, white paws, white patch on chest, long fur...Veery handsome!
He is a Pisces
He can fetch paper balls, and catch them in midair. He is an excellent goalie/shortstop. If I pat my stomach he will jump into my arms. He guards the door when he hears someone coming, though he is pretty small. (dainty) I love him, and he loves me.
My other cat is Siamese. His name is Vinnie(Ghidossi) :D This is a good name for him because he frickin miaows ALL THE TIME and is generally a giant pain in the butt! He is the exact opposite of my other cat. He is slow, runs when someone comes to the door, and tends to be the one who will barf the most, or perhaps something worse  He is a Sagittarius.
I just rescued a cat that the people next door to my work found on their roof. Her ears were really infected and she was all smelly, and she SEEMED really sweet so I took her to the vet. She is orange stripe(my least favorite color cat) and it is unusual for girl cats to be orange. I found out that though she is calm and docile, she is not sweet. She is the type who moves just out of the way whenever you go to pet her. Like, she'll duck her body under your hand, and she'll slide her cheek out of the way of your hand. Also, she tries to bully my siamese...I originally named her Friendl. (Frendel) cause she was Swedish and Friendly. Now sometimes i call her Squishy cause of the way she squishes out of the way. I may still give her away...3 cats is too many for my size apt. Oh, yeah, the best part....None of them get along with each other. Especially my first, and best, Spanky - He loves me to death, but kicks ass on the others, including neighborhood watch...Sometimes he lets Vinnie beat up on him a little...Vinnie also outweighs him by about 5 lbs.!

I have 9 goldfish, a pair of Betta's & a large sucker-fish

Not to mention 4 @#$%^& destructive cats:

"Ace" (aka "THE Super Oreo", "Capt.Canuck", "Herb", "Down-in-front") A reverse "tuxedo" (Black on white instead of the usual white on black) "Rag-Doll" breed of cat. 15 lbs of pure pain the ass feline hi-jinx...if he cannot destroy household items then nothin' will

"Jr" (aka "Head", "Goon", "Tally-wacker", "Nugget") Ace's adopted child, A white with yellow polka dotted American Shorthair. The cat with a large noggin (Thus the name "Head") that looks like a bowling ball on a toothpick...Does the "dying cockroach" better than anyone, Lives to HATE Shioban & sit on the fishtanks hoping to catch an "afternoon dinner treat".

"Shioban" (aka "Woodchuck", "Chuck", "Freak", "Nubs", "Sh-thead") a pure-bred white coated, blue eyed Scottish Fold breed of cat, With tri-fold ears that sheds way too #$%^* much...She cannot "meow" worth the s--t but does make a strange goat-like "Me-aaaaahhh"...Lives to hide from Jr. Looks like an owl more than a feline with her lack of regular feline ears

"Patches" (aka "Crack-ho Calico", "Dead Calico", "Kenny", "Patch-Patch") A torte-shell calico with stripes instead of the usual solid color patches...Ace's long lost daughter (Or though he assumes she is his kitten, He is her "overseeing factor in house-wide destruction of the humans domain). The youngest member of the FHTO ("Feline Household TERRORIST Organization)

They kind of look like Maine Coons, but with a smaller build. Long coat, but not too poofy. Long guard hairs for snow/rain. Supposedly one of few cats good with water, and have been seen "fishing" (!) My cat occasionally sleeps in the sink, but he's never liked his baths! Exceptionally smart and loyal :p

a cat (The late great "Pugsly") who loved to take baths, He would sit in the water all damn day if you were to let him...Preferably relaxing on his back the big showoff.

I think "Jr" wishes he was a fish, He sits on top of the fish tanks all the time, But he has yet to try and stick his paws in the water...Probably get eaten alive,

Norwegian Forest, Maine Coon, Rag Dolls & Scottish Fold are some of the cooler breeds of cats to own. My Scottish Fold "Shioban" has a small voice but she does sound like a goat when she attempts to "meow"....But her folded ears (Only happens to 50% of the Scottish Fold breed, the other 50% have regular upright ears like normal cats) make for alot of second glances because people arent use to a Scottish Fold as they are to other breeds of cats.

Awww, cute pix! And Oreo actually seems to be tolerating that bow on his head. Wouldn't last 2 seconds on my cat...

I grew up w/ a dog, a beagle, and never thought of myself as a cat person - but sometimes pets choose their owners, and that's definitely what happened...I was staying in a beach condo w/ several people. The Zoo album was being played non-stop - the theme song of the weekend was "Shake the Cage." This kitten was hanging around the complex, didn't seem to belong to anyone. We brought home some fresh shrimp, and he followed the scent up 3 flights of stairs. We let him in for dinner, gave him some shrimp, and he slept on my pillow, right above my head, all night. And he's never done that since...isn't that weird? Anyway, 12 years later, and he's still "my baby." I've got a cute pic of him at work...I'll scan it when I get a chance...

Working on getting that Boxer, but right now 2 cats:

Mrs. Bouvier (as in Marge's mom on The Simpsons) grey Siamese mix from the SPCA. She's about 3 & 1/2 now. She is very well-behaved, doesn't like to be picked up & is a little skittish at times. She does love to be petted (but NOT on the belly) and have her head scratched hard.

Cosmo (as in Kramer on Seinfeld) B&W, one of 4 that my brother found outside in a box as tiny kittens. We took him at about 3 months of age, he's about 2 now. He loves to be picked up, held, petted, whatever - he's really laid back.

But the bastard will try to eat ANYTHING! We can't leave ANY food out, he will eat it. He will tear through bags to eat bread, and he can hear you opening a cheese wrapper from a mile away. Most recently, he ripped open the bag of marshmallows I bought for camping & was gnawing on one. He's also tried Twizzlers, peanut butter cups, onion, lettuce...what an idiot!

We have 4 cats and two free-roaming house rabbits!

CATS:
Emmitt is mostly black, but if you pet back his fur he's all white underneath--very strange. He's the most skittish, he was born feral and my husband brought him in when he was about 7 months.

Sara is completly silky black and Emmitt's mom. She came in the same time Emmitt did, except she is TOTAL housecat now! MAYBE she will sit on the front step, but that's it. It's like, "I had enough of outside, THANK YOU!" She's also the most friendly--she will come up to total strangers to be pet.

Charlotte is a very fat calico and not terribly bright. She has been referred to as "pillow-esque." Also a rescue from outside, but when she was a kitten.

Emily is Charlotte's sister (another calico) and while not quite as fat, she is the loudest. When she wants kitty treats she lets out this insistent RRAAIIWW. My husband calls her "Emily Air-Raid" (as in Air-Raid Siren).

RABBITS:

Zoe came from a shelter and is agouti colored (which means he's that speckly brown cottontails are). I chose him because his tag said, "Likes to play with cats," and I thought that was cool since we had cats. However, their definition of "play" must have been "likes to growl at and chase cats out of his territory," because that's what he does! Everyone always askes me if I'm worried about what the cats will do to the rabbits, and I have to explain that it's the other way around.

Funny story: Emmitt was on the chest of drawers in Zoe's bedroom once, and he couldn't jump onto the floor because Zoe was directly beneath him on the floor giving him the death stare. There was no way for Emmitt to get to the bedroom door by jumping on furniture, so after about 5 minutes he finally leaps over Zoe to the floor. But Zoe was right on his heels 'till he was out of the room! Zoe grunts too. Grouchy little bunny!

Josephine is the love of Zoe's life, though she is about 10 lbs. to his 6lbs. She is a cinnamon, which means her body is brown while her ears, feet, belly and nose are black. Very pretty. She also came from a shelter. Josie is very bold and likes her treats too, which are apple chips. She will come up and nudge my ankle if she wants some. She also has the cutest, hugest ears! She used to hop up on the bed but she hasn't in a while.

Don't let anyone tell you rabbits are timid! Just ask my cats!

Paula, that's funny about Cosmo's eating habits. :) My cat will not eat ANY people food whatsoever, she has no interest in it at all (not even tuna, shrimp, chicken...nada), EXCEPT for popcorn. She's a weirdo! LOL.

I love all your descriptions! Those rabbits sound cute as hell--no way could I have them, my dogs like to chase rabbits.

we lost the beloved & infamous cat "Percy" 3 years ago due to feline luekemia, He was a "one-in-a-million" type of cat.

Brian, my cat has feline leukemia, also. She was born with it, as were all her littermates. She is 3 now and is one of those "one-in-a-million" types you are talking about it. How old was Percy when he died? I truly believe those FeLV+ kitties have a very special quality about them.

That's what I have, only she's a mini. :D I'm sorry you lost him, I know how attached people get to their pets!!

Nicky was a mini too (black and tan). My first dachshund (Dutch) was a standard (also black and tan). Great minds think alike Diss--both in politics and pets!

Absolutely! We're thinking about getting a dog (my daughter wants one), but that's rule number one: we have to wait until the rabbits die...

I love them to pieces and I have a house full, mainly rescues. Dylan, named for Bob, of course, is 18, and the youngest, Polly, is almost a year. I have one Siamese, named Siam, and he is a character. No one should leave life without knowing and being owned by a Siamese cat-my humble opinion.

I had a cat named Stud -he died last summer at 17 years old-who actually said NO. I know it's hard to believe..

Some have Fleetwood Mac names! Gypsy does, Woody does, and Lindsey does. Lindsey is a gorgeous Maine Coon wannabe, Gypsy is a Persian wannabe, and Woody is a gray and white shorthair. I had a Christine but it turned out Christine was a he so the name got changed to Christopher

Carol, I love white cats! What color are Violet's eyes? Beavis sounds like a special boy to his mama. ;)

Violet's eyes are light green. Beavis has cool eyes. They match the tan in his fur. And they shine or glare in pictures. He is a mama's boy. He is declawed, but it was a bad declaw job, and he has bone fragments or nail fragments or something in his toes on one paw, and it hurts sometimes. So he doesn't run around a lot, and he's real slow going up and down stairs and doesn't jump on high places. Jumping off the bed he'll slide his front paws down the side of the bed as far as he can before he'll actually jump. I give him half a baby aspirin for it every now and then, but that usually makes him throw up. He is my baby. Such a good cat. Violet does have more personality, though. Every time my husband does work around the house, she's gotta be in on it. It's hysterical.

Carol, she is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!! I feel for your poor boy with the paw problems. The latest research has shown that declawing is really a pretty horrendous procedure for cats and can cause serious arthritis problems as the cats age. I trim Gypsy's nails about once every two weeks and it really keeps her destructive tendencies at bay. Don't get me wrong, she still likes to claw stuff, but the nails are too short to do any damage!

was 7 years old when he started to suffer, So we had to make a rough decision to have him suffer no more...Neither Deb nor myself could go into the room with the vet when he passed on, Couldnt quit crying :(

But, really strange was stoping at Pets Mart & feeling totally bummed out because of our family's loss...We decided to look at the cats that were up for adoption by "Pets And People" (An adoption organization that NEVER puts their unwanted pets to sleep...They're up for a $10,000 award through Friskies if they get enough votes online) and that's when a big hairy, big footed, sabre-toothed tom cat named "Ace" decided to adopt US. He was reaching through the cage like he knew we were the right family for him, Which the workers of "P&P" thought was odd...He wouldnt take NO for an answer because he saw a YUPPIE Mother/Son who were also interested in him ("Ace" doesnt seem to like upper class people...Just us Blue Collar/Middle Class types), But as they say, "Ya snooze...Ya lose" and we ended up adopting "Ace" (Or shall we say he adopted us).

He rode home in the pet taxi while our beloved "Percy" was in a container beside the taxi so we could give him a proper burial...Weird thing is that "Ace" adopted some of the same mannerisms that "Percy" had leading us to believe that maybe some of "Percy's" spirit is inside good ol "Capt.Canuck"...Lord knows he is as DESTRUCTIVE as "Percy" was

For a soon-to-be 5 yr. old "Ace" is the biggest baby I have ever seen of an adult cat

When I was trying to name my kittens, I named one of them Tusk (thinking he was a boy). Then I thought he was a girl, and I was in a quandary as to what to do about his name. Turns out he really WAS a boy, so that problem was solved!

I know what you mean about the non-stop crying. I have had to put 6 cats down due to FeLV and each took a piece of my heart. 7 years just isn't long enough, but considering the ones I lost ranged in age from 3 weeks to 3 years, 7 would be a blessing to me. Of course I'll think differently if Gypsy makes it to 7.

And ITA that Percy at least led you to Ace. I had that experience with one of my dogs. Carri's been with me for five years now and I'm truly convinced she inherited some of my dog Bryndle's spirit. Bryndle led me to find Carri and Carri has some mannerisms that I have seen in no other dog but Bryndle.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Thanks, Patti! She is a pretty cat. She didn't start off that way, though. We got her at 7 weeks, and she was skinny and scraggly looking. But we knew the director of the Humane Society, and he insisted she was perfect for us. Of course, he was right!

I'm with you on the declawing...I wouldn't do it again. Have you seen the little cover thingies they sell to put on your cat's claws so they don't do any damage when they scratch? Not sure how well they'd stay on, but I'll check them out next time we get a cat.

BTW, I'd love to have a siamese. We had a black cat once (RIP, Alex :( ) that sounded just like a siamese. He was a cool cat.

a weird name for a cat, "Tusk"...But I can top it, We had a stumpy 1 eyed female orange/white tabby mixed (Who died this past spring) with the greatest cat name ever:

"Roadkill-The Pirate"

Right now I am being annoyed by "lardass" (aka "Ace") as I type who sole purpose n life is to either EAT all the birds of the world (Or so he thinks...Never let him near a window with a bird nearby, Can ya say "Glass replacement"???) or steal ANY remote control device we own so he can FLOP on 'em (Havent figured this one out yet...The boy loves laying on remote controls for some damn reason).

Carol, they're called, among other names, Soft Paws. I am familiar with them, though I've never used them. They last about a month from what I have heard and then need to be replaced. It's like a wax coating that goes over the nails. You can buy them at PetsMart or Petco. It's cheaper for me to trim Gypsy's nails and she's used to it since I've been doing them since she was about 4 months old.

I have two cats. One's a longhaired calico named Mable, and the other is a shorthaired black cat named Lola. I just recently lost my baby, Pearl. She was 15, but she could have been older, as we aren't 100% sure on how old she was when we got her. I miss her so much :(. We were very, very close. I still feel like she's here with me, though.

On a happier note, here are some pictures of my kitties...
