View Full Version : Bangs or no bangs????? That is the question!!!!

As far as Stevie's hairstyles on this tour go (the 2003 dates without bangs and the the 2004 summer dates with bangs) which did you like more?

I am going to say without bangs! I think she looks so much younger without them. I have seen some really awful (sorry) pictures of Stevie now that she has the bangs and earlier in the tour when she didn't have the bangs she seemed a lot more photo friendly! I wonder what her hair will be like after the two month break at the Atlantic City show!

Without the bangs. She looked much younger without them, in my opinion. She's gorgeous regardless what her hairstyle is, but the 2003 'do was much more flattering.

Hmmm.... Well flicking through my collection of Stevie pictures I'm hard pressed to find one of her without. So I guess I'd have to say with.... as the only pics I have of her without were taken during the "dodgy hairstyle" era. :p

I was a bangs fan at first, but last time she ditched them and I saw some pics I really started to think she's better off without them. Needless to say, she blows me away regardless, but I do think she looks younger without them.

I loved her bangs during the TISL era. They haven't looked so good in 2004. I think she might look better with a lighter bang, not as thick and straight.

NO BANGS. She looks like she's trying to cover a brow lift when she has them.

On another note, she REALLY needs to thin out her hair, it's too thick and the color is too unnatural looking. :p

NO BANGS. She looks like she's trying to cover a brow lift when she has them.

If you're going to go through the hassle of having a brow lift, why bother covering your brow with bangs 98% of the time? That'd be like wearing muumuus after a tummy-tuck. :p

My preference is *with* bangs. Many of the photos of her on stage without bangs, made her face look tired and drawn. The bangs soften her face and take years off.

I'm glad she brought them back. :)

Well, she does -- without doubt -- look younger with no bangs. Though the bangs do add something to her overall look. I'm not sure, hmm... This is going to go down as one of those choices that I'll never be able to make in my lifetime. Right under "boxers or briefs..."

Obviously. But my point was that Stevie wore bangs for the 'Dance' tour, the 'Enchanted' tour, the 'Trouble In Shangri-La' tour, and all appearances throughout those years. And she's wearing them again.
So, that would be one majorally slow-healing brow lift, if she had to hide it for 5 years. ;)

I never said she had a brow lift, I said that wearing bangs constantly made her look like she was trying to conceal one. The bangs make her look older and no longer suit her.

I think she looks a lot younger with the bangs. They looked kinda funny at the beginning of the 2004 US tour (and that VH1 interview) but now she looks absolutely gorgeous with them.

Has anyone seen the episode of Absolutely Fabulous where they talk about crutches, and somone dares Patsy (the blonde one) to get rid of her bangs, and she does that for like, one morning, and the next day the bangs are back? Kind of reminds me of La Nicks in 2003, we knew that wouldn't last!

I don't think I care whether she has bangs or not at this stage of the game. She'll never look good as long as she trundles across the stage in those Frankenboks.

According to Joan Rivers... who apparently knows all there is to know about youth and beauty ... Stevie needs to cut her hair short.
Because "long hair doesn't suit women of her age."

Personally, I like the way she's worn her hair since 'The Dance,' with the exception of the no-bangs look for the 2003 leg of the 'Say You Will' tour. I felt then, and I still feel when I look back at the photographs, that it weighed-down her face and wasn't a flattering look at all.

But Amber, they are horrendously U G L Y!!!!! She could go with a flatter shoe, but can't she choose something that's at least flattering? Ugh!

BTW, I like her better with bangs. I think she needs to chop a few inches off the length though. Her ends look a little scraggly IMO.

I totally feel that Stevie should be comfortable up on stage. Especially since it seems she's far likelier to dance and move around more, if her feet (and hip) are comfortable.
But, gosh, those frankenboks are SO dumpy.

There HAS to be some other style of shoe out there, which would give her the lift she wants while still remaining comfortable.
If not, then someone here needs to come up with something, STAT!

The long blonde hair is a trademark and at this stage in the game, she wouldn't look like Stevie without it. Having said that, she really needs to freshen the hair up; she wears it so matronly these days. It needs to be thinned out and layered, it needs a much better dye (it looks so fried), and she needs a curl or two to add some character to it. The way she wears it these days is rather frumpy, IMO.

I guess it's because they're just not stylish.
Stevie dresses so beautifully, and the platform boots... even when they were hopelessly out of style... always completed that look. She had that "Gibson Girl" look she was going for, with a bit of hippie-chic thrown in.

But now, she's not stylish from head to toe anymore... she's only stylish from head to mid-calf.

She should be allowed to wear whatever she wants... and I highly doubt the footwear of any other female singer is as dissected as Stevie's... it just seems that there HAS to be something that would be both comfortable and flattering.

In the end, it doesn't matter much... it's only footwear (I couldn't even tell you what kind of footwear Lindsey wears :sorry: ).

There are boots out there with very small heels that she could wear and would look fabulous in. They had some on QVC last night that were beige like her Gypsy boots and others that were red and black. Those Frankenboks look anyhting but uncomfortable and every time I see her waring them, it looks like she's about to topple over because they're uneven.

Joan Rivers shouldn't talk- she looks like she is a hundred and eight years old. And I completely disagree with her. Woman look a ton better with longer hair regardless of their age. If Stevie cut her hair she would look like a senior! I can't stand how all these old woman just give up and cut their hair like little boys. Stevie looks sexy with the long hair. I keep telling my Mom (who is in her mid 40's) grow your hair out and never cut it short like all these middle aged woman always do- it is like telling people- "My hobbys are playing bingo and going out for early bird specials". In conclusion, if Stevie cuts her hair I will scream!

I really like the straight w/ bangs look, but I LOVE her hair in her 'Behind The Music' episode, when she's wearing it with waves. It's very similar to the look she has on the cover for the "If You Ever Did Believe" single, which I also love.

I agree that some waves would be nice, and maybe some honey-blond lowlights.

Woman look a ton better with longer hair regardless of their age. That's just such a huge generalization. I would say it really depends on the shape of one's face. I think some people do look older, and in some cases, women have a hard time keeping their hair healthy if it's that long, so they do wind up looking older if they keep it long. I love Stevie with her long hair, but I don't think it's right for everyone her age.

Huh? What?

Lowlights are when a stylist does the opposite of highlights. If your hair is a lighter color... light-brown or blond, for example... they can add a darker color to your hair (though not TOO much darker, or it would look unnatural), to make it appear that the lighter sections are your highlights.

My mom's a beautician (well, by profession she's a desirologist... someone who does the hair and cosmetics on the corpses for a funeral home), so I've learned thru osmosis. ;)

Layers make you look like you have split ends? Since when? Layers work best on straight hair because it's takes away a lot of the thickness but keeps the volume. Her hair looks too thick and fried, it needs to be thinned and layered.

I didn't think she looked like she has split ends.
If you wear your hair straight, then get it layered, the ends tend to "puff" or "fly" out a little so that you can see them, making your hair look split at each layer level. (I have noticed this a lot, on people with layers. The only layers I've seen that have looked GREAT is on people with really thick hair that is curly when cut into layers)
I've seen straight hair with layers look ok, but it has to be cut perfectly and maintained stringently every day....

Wait, doesn't she wear extensions, at least on stage? I thought I heard someone mention that once. Maybe she should just lose those; that would thin her hair out a lot!

I don't think I care whether she has bangs or not at this stage of the game. She'll never look good as long as she trundles across the stage in those Frankenboks.

Maybe there's a dog somewhere that will rip those things to shreds. Bring back the dog from the Tusk cover, I say!

I couldn't agree with you more! Can I please join the "We Hate the Frankenboks" club!

Picture a boot with the same heel as the Frankenboks but a slip on leather upper with an inside zipper, I have a pair for chr**ts sake's, I'm sure Stevie could find a pair!!! I'm sorry but the reebok with the stitched padded upper is just soooooooooo out of style, my god, not to mention with a platform heel, it's just wrong!!!! We are talken about the hottest rock & roll chic in her time who was known for her sexy boots!!

Stevie has worn hair-extensions, and I'm pretty sure she's worn "falls" too (which is a partial hairpiece, that's attached to the back part of the crown to add length to your hairstyle)... most especially around the 'Tango' and 'OSOTM' era... but for the past several years, her hair appears to be entirely her own.
She just has a THICK head of hair.

I loved her bangs during the TISL era. They haven't looked so good in 2004. I think she might look better with a lighter bang, not as thick and straight.

I agree hugely. I think "no bangs" brightens up her face, but I like the bangs too. I just feel that they are always way too thick, especially on the Enchanted Tour. Something more wispy would be much more flattering. They look really good on the back cover of TISL...they are very smooth and frame her face more than they usually do. But I realize there is likely ample more grooming time for an album cover than at shows. So, since she's done the bangs thing for so long already, I say "no bangs" now. I think it would have looked really good if she had pulled the front of her "no bangs hair" back on each side with fancy barrettes. Maybe this would have helped too if the reason she went back to bangs was because the "grow-out phase" was driving her crazy (most of us have been there, no?).

Are bangs the same as a fringe? If so, I like them. She looks amazing anyway, but I prefer her with the fringe, and I also prefer middle partings as opposed to side partings.

Gem...I do think across the pond, bangs are called "fringe". It is the hair that is over STevies forehead. She spent most of 2002/2003 growing the things out and had gotten past the worst of it and then suddenly cut them again. She looks so funny on the DR doc during the band rehearsal of EFO. She is at a bad bang stage and has them feathered ala Farrah Fawcett. They do not look so hot.
As for me, I prefer her with bangs, I think she looks much younger with them. I agree with Dissention..a few long layers, take a few inches of the length and thin out the bangs..she would look just smashing. I love love love her hair on the doc during the GB part. Its got a side part and just looks really great. She should wear it like that everyday.

I don't know if this has been said already or not, but her hair looks a lot healthier and less fried now than it did during TISL. It was really bad then--jagged and strawlike at the ends. I just wanted to say "Stevie, honey, get a trim!"
And yes, she has been wearing her like this for a long time. It's time to do something a little different. Lighter bangs and layers might be just the thing.

Thanks Kelly. Yes, that is what we call a fringe. I totally agree with you - I like her with the fringe/bangs and she should get some layers, if only for a change! I also like it when she wears her hair up, I think just because it's different. The thing when she has that huge flick going on in DR is really funny. What's going on with that?! I have to say, I'm glad she didn't persue that avenue, but it was nice to see something a bit orignial!

I agree that when she has bangs, it looks much better to have the rest of hair parted in the middle. It's much smoother. On the Enchanted Tour, it drove me c-r-a-z-y how it was parted waaaaaaaaay, unnaturally to the side.

She needs to go back to the layered shag but an updated version a la a little thinned out and lots of long layers and long bangs. However, if she's going to keep the all-one-length long, hair she needs bangs, otherwise she'll end up looking like a blonde Morticia Adams!

She can't do that. The bolts in her neck might show.

I thought I was losing it, but I'm with you guys who like her hair better with bangs. I think it makes her look younger too.

Now I am paranoid about MY bangs.

Count me in among those who think layers would be nice. I don't think Stevie's hair is naturally straight. At least it didn't used to be. I know hair changes as one gets older, but back when she had a shag (Rumours era and beyond) her hair looked naturally wavy and thick. I think the current straight style is helped a bit by a straightening iron.

Layers could help with split ends because once you cut that top layers shorter, the hair at the ends of those top layers is much younger than all that old length. If her hair is completely grey underneath that color, she should probably keep the layers very long, though, because the texture might be a bit coarse. Stevie's hair did already have a tendency to frizz with layers when she was younger. I think that the advances in hair car that have happened since she last had a shag would help that out.

Please, I don't want you to get the British Ledgies all up in a lather over the last time she had a shag.

Definitely with bangs. They make her look much younger. No bangs elongates an oblong face like hers - you'll read that in any fashion/style mag. I have the same face shape and went without bangs for awhile and felt like I looked 5 years older.

As for the health of her hair, I love it long, but a few long layers around her face would help with the weight of it. Also, a shine serum like Bumble & Bumble's newest product along with a flat iron would work wonders. (I read somewhere she uses big rollers, and a ceramic flat iron would help smooth her hair out much more.) Then top the whole thing off with a smoothing cream and she'd have very sleek hair, with the help of a good stylist of course. Jen Aniston has naturally wavy hair, but she manages to keep it sleek with the right products and tools - that style would look lovely on Stevie.

Agreed on the Reeboks. I know at her age (heck, any age!) it's got to be tough wearing super high heels, but brands like Aerosoles make some nice shorter-heeled boots that are attractive and comfy at the same time. The sneaks take away from the elegance of her outfits.

JMHO!

It's so funny-- maybe I'm way off, but in 2003 all I remember hearing was how frumpy and OLD she looked with the no-bang 'do, and how flattering her bangs used to be, and how she should bring them back, and who the hell did Stevie Nicks think she was, cutting off her bangs?

Fast forward two years, and the bangs have returned. Surprise! Now the majority says that they make her look old, and she looked better in 2003 without them.

Food for thought: If she finally caved in and took Dreams, Rhiannon, and Landslide out of her set and put in Storms, Sisters of the Moon, and Julia--how long would it be before Ledgies would be complaining about it and pining for the "good old days"?

I think Stevie should cop Faith Hill's new 'do, even the color. That would be hot!

I am a fan of the bangs.

People (like Katie Couric) often cut bangs after having face work done to hide the healing. Then they sometimes go back to the old 'do.

Whatever she has done the combination of hair and everything are working for her!

Keep it as-is.

Why do you hate them so? They're still high. She probably could barely walk at all if she had to wear the straight heels. Seriously, I think they probably greatly increase her mobility.

The frankenboks suck. She moves like she has bricks tied to her feet although this tour she is moving better than she has in a long time.

Yeah baby. You go.

This tour she actually seems to dance the most during Rock and Roll and she is not wearing the tennis shoes then, so what gives? If she can move best in those shoes then she should wear them for the whole set since they are actual boots, which is more appropriate with a dress.

I hate the bangs. She should cut a little length off of the extensions too.
