More Details of Lance Party Unfolding

We've got some more details on the Friday the 13th parade and party for Lance Armstrong.
After winning the Tour De France for a record 6th time, Armstrong is going to be honored with the parade up Congress Avenue.
FOX 7 News has been told the parade will end at 10th and Congress and that Robert Earl Keen will be the opening performer.
An as yet unnamed friend of Armstrong's girlfriend, Sheryl Crow, will also be playing.
There will also be fireworks, a fly-over, and the UT band will perform.
About 60,000 people are expected to attend.

Probably not in its entirety - but I imagine you might catch some highlights on your local channel, or maybe CNN or someone will pick it up...

I planned on going regardless of who the performers were...I don't understand why they're doing it on the capitol grounds, instead of Auditorium Shores, where outdoor concerts and fireworks are held on the 4th of July. Parking near the capitol is going to be a bitch! I'm thinking of parking near my favorite downtown watering hole and grabbing a cab to get to the festivities...

Who else is Sheryl musical friends with? Clapton...hmmm...

Livia, if it turns out to be Stevie & you have a heart, you'll tell me it was Mariah Carey. ;)

Well, it's not StevIE, but it IS a Steve (Miller):

'Fly Like an Eagle' to Lance's victory party
Friday's party will have Steve Miller Band, procession up Congress Avenue, speech by Armstrong.

Austin will celebrate hometown hero Lance Armstrong in a big way Friday night.

Armstrong, who earned a historic sixth Tour de France victory last month, will headline a procession from the Congress Avenue bridge to the Capitol, starting at 7 p.m.

Based on past experience, organizers estimate that about 60,000 fans will show up.

Near the Capitol, the Steve Miller Band, a group of old-school rockers, will play a free concert.

Miller, in his 36th year of performing, grew up in Dallas. His hits include "Take the Money and Run," "Fly Like an Eagle" and "Abracadabra."

Robert Earl Keen also will take the stage at 10th Street and Congress.

Armstrong, who returned to the United States from France a week ago, is expected to address the crowd — his first public remarks since he won the Tour for the sixth consecutive time. The three-week-long, 2,100-mile bicycle race is considered by many the toughest sporting event in the world.

Armstrong's first title in 1999 came three years after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

ESPN personality Chris Fowler, a longtime friend of Armstrong's, will serve as master of ceremonies for the event. It will also include a video presentation of highlights from Armstrong's six Tour victories.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation announced the date of the party last week, but concert details were not finalized until the weekend.
