New 'Bushism' Born at Bill Signing
WASHINGTON - President Bush offered up a new entry for his catalog of "Bushisms" on Thursday, declaring that his administration will "never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people."
Bush misspoke as he delivered a speech at the signing ceremony for a $417 billion defense spending bill.
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we," Bush said. "They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."
No one in Bush's audience of military brass or Pentagon chiefs reacted.
The president was working his way toward a larger point. "We must never stop thinking about how best to defend our country. We must always be forward-thinking," he said.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Bush's misstatement "just shows even the most straightforward and plain-spoken people misspeak."
"But the American people know this president speaks with clarity and conviction, and the terrorists know by his actions he means it," McClellan said.

Bush In Verbal Gaffe
Says White House never stops thinking about ways to harm U.S.
AUGUST 5--In an unfortunate, though not uncommon, verbal miscue, President George W. Bush today told a White House audience that his administration never stops thinking about ways to harm the United States. The embarrassing malapropism came as Bush appeared before military brass to sign a new $417 billion defense appropriation bill. Referring to the country's enemies, Bush said, "They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." Hey, with any luck it will be just a broken campaign promise.

Even though, according to some poll I took, I only like 6% of GWB (I like 80% of Kerry), I can't say that his statement merits much criticism. I suggest that he told exactly the truth because if you want to beat a terrorist, you have to think like one. The stategy his comment implies is exactly the stategy that intelligence officials should be taking to stop any potential attacks.

That's okay, we'll just wait for Bush to say something else stupid (which will probably be in a couple of days), and then we'll use that. Thanks for offering though. :)

Oh my! That is humiliating! Not really his fault- he just lost his place in his speach- but still really funny! I hope he doesn't really want to cause this country harm!

Nothing is ever Bush's fault is it?
I want some of whatever it is that you're on because Bush has indeed already done great harm to this country. This is a man who can't admit he made a single mistake in his presidency thus far. We've got over 900 soldiers who have died in Iraq, 3,000 people innocents who died here in the States, a staggering deficit, a stagnent economy, the world hates us, etc., etc., and you think he hasn't done any harm to this country and doesn't want to do harm to this country? He already has and if he's allowed another four years I shudder to think how much worse it will get.
