View Full Version : Stevie Question...

I hate to go on about the weight thing, because honestly her weight doesn't matter to me. She discusses her weight loss often, and her doing the Atkins diet and all...but my question, is...is she really any smaller now than she was in 1994? I don't think so...maybe she did lose some before the dance, but she seems to me to be about the same size now as she was then...but why is it diff now? And why doesnt it bother her as much now I wonder? And why is the media less focused on it now??

Pictures to ponder :

1993 :

IMO there really isnt much diff there

Buy or borrow a few of Ed W. books (ie, Lady of The Stars, etc) and you'll see Stevie was MUCH heavier than she is now. She's lost a lot of weight since that time. She's no means slim (sometimes the reviews one reads make one think she's so thin she's disappearing!, but she's feeling fitter and apparently exercises daily. More power to her.

Hey, I hadn't seen that red carpet one!
But a few reviews have said something about it recently, but you're right, not nearly as many. I think people are more used to it now. Last time it was like, hey, last time we saw you you were youngish and skinny, suddenly you poofed up! Where as now, she has already been poofed up. Yeah, I think she's about the same, too. I also think that she was thinner a few years ago - probably touring it is harder to stick to your regimen. When i saw her live, she looked fairly ample, in a sexy, lush, decadent, my boobs are big way.

Yes but the time she claims she was her biggest (1993) she looks the same as she is now...I think she was her biggest probably 91 - 92

Speaking from my personal opinion, Stevie lost a LOT of weight by the time The Dance rolled around and even more by the time she went out on the Enchanted tour. There are some points in The Dance (specifically during Gold Dust Woman) where she looks like the skinny California chick from yesteryear. On the current tour, I think she has put on a bit of weight (not a whole lot), but that's probably from going through menopause. I can certainly understand that and I could care less what size she is, personally. :D

PS: I also think that her shoulderpads and Frankenboks make her look heavier than she really is.

Yeah, I wish she would wear tighter, or less voluminously layered clothes, sometimes. Although, i wouldn't wish the regular platforms she used to wear upon anybody, comfort wise

Exactly. She looked bigger in '94 than she really was because she layered so much on herself. Sorry, but when you've gained a bit of weight, the alst thing you do is pile clothes on top of yourself in an effort to conceal it. It only makes you look bigger than you are.

 I could use thinner skirts from her. and less shouldery things. Her bodice looked real good this tour, though. Nice and snug, with ample cleavage  She never really showed her legs too much, but she kinda did.

That's what drove me nuts with Stevie: she never showed any leg. From the footage of the Behind the Mask tour where she wore a mini, she had nice legs. Or at least where less baggy skirts.

But, I've been saying that I'd like her to come out onstage wearing what she wore in the Bootylicious video, but that'll never happen. She was smokin' in that video!

We need to get Stevie to Saks, doll!

I think she looks good and healthy in that picture compared to this one..... she's got GREY HAIR!!!!! i wonder if she'd have that skunk stripe in the middle if she let it grow out...

She's lost a ton of weight since 94... and she continued right up until the end of The Dance tour... Take a look at her (if you have it) when they played the Grammies... Or take a look at her on Letterman singing HAEWAFY for 1998 Enchanted... Those are examples of when she was her lightest.

From that point on... It's slowly crept back up a bit... but I think, like someone said, she's in better shape and her body is going to do what it wants at this point... and if she's had hip problems limiting her movement... that's enough to cause anyone from being mobile and putting on a few... plus it's harder to lose and maintain the older you get.. metabolism isn't so great later in life.

But she looks great!!

Yeah, I kind of like the red carpet one. She looks natural. When I saw True Spin, I was like, uh oh, cause she kind of finally had that plasticky, botox, plastic surgery thing. :sorry: I can't believe she actually went out with that much gray showing! :D NOT very diva like!

She was definately her thinnest during the Enchanted Tour....Have you seen STORYTELLERS? Wow, her waist looked good. I dunno why she says black is slimming....That red-like dress she wore during her acoustic set made her look really good.

I agree with everyone....quit wearing black dresses that focus on your butt and stomach.

OMG Jessica Leigh, that was the first time I ever saw that picture. Where is that from. I've never seen Stevie look that bad. I've always wondered why they talk of Stevie's "Fat" era but every picture I've seen from 1993-1995 have been well she's "kind of big" but not really as bad as Stevie has made it out. But that picture you showed, shows me she DID have quite the weight problem. I don't care if Stevie is a little bigger then she used to be but I have to say I'm THRILLED she doesn't look like THAT anymore.

Wow the '94 pic and the skunk stripe one really made me appreciate that she is still able to tour nowadays! OMG has she improved since then. She doesn't look too bad in '93 but the '94 is terrible...not just the weight, but the whole haggard, tired look.

I have no idea where it's from... i found it a long time ago and just went "YIIIIIIIIKES" and then saved it as that.... anyone know?

somehow though, she's still beautiful.... i mean gawd... that woman has perfect skin... i can only hope and pray that when i get older my skin is half as beautiful as hers...

also.... take into context that in the early 90s hair crimping was still pretty cool... i mean, we look at it now and go "oh god that's so ugly" but at the time it was still kind of bitchin'

When I saw Stevie on the SA tour, she looked heavy. Her clothes did not help matters but damn, she rocked hard. In 96, in Boston, she had lost some weight but still looked rather unhealthy but better than 94. By Dance time, she looked healthy and fit which continued through Enchanted. She seems to have put on a few pounds over the last two years but nowhere near what she weighed in 92-95. Her face was so heavy back then, she appeared to have no neck. What made it even worse for me, was Stevie looked unhappy and depressed. Today, she looks happy, healthy and beautiful for a 56 year old woman. Being only 5'1, its difficult to keep your weight in proportion. Her weight seems to go to her boobs and middle section but I think she is much thinner than she was when I saw her in 94 and 96. She looks much, much better. Big difference, especially in her face.

Let us never speak of that picture again.

Stevie may have put on a few pounds since The Dance, but that's to be expected, I mean, first of all that was eight years ago! Plus, she went through a pretty radical weight loss on the Atkins diet and when off of it, (I assume she's off of it) one is expected to gain a little here and there. I think she looks beautiful though and has kept her weight down exceptionally well. For example, check out the August picture of her in the Fleetwood Mac calendar ;) ...

She's bigger now than the dance and enchanted, but she carries it better...mainly because she's healthy and happy now...and she takes care of herself..

I'm pretty sure she has. At the very least Botox, but i think she's had some other things as well. However, if she has, her surgeon IS a master. The clue for me is that she kind of doesn't look as old now as she did before, or barely so. But anyway, i don't care, until she gets the plasticky look - I hate that!

When you see Stevie in person, up close, its pretty apparent she has not had any type of surgery on her face. She has alot of the normal signs of aging, her skin is just so perfect, she looks younger than most 56 year olds. She has plenty of lines around her eyes and especially her mouth that would certainly have been fixed if she had a lift. Not to mention her neck. Personally, she doesn't need to do a thing in my book, she looks perfect and still very stunning. I just know she looks alot different on tv, fully made up and under specific lighting, than she does in person, out of stage makeup.

Dissention...what was going on in Boston with her?!?!?
She had lost some weight but looked so old and haggard! Personally, I left that show very depressed. I never thought she would do much of anything again. I could not freaking believe my eyes when I watched the Dance, this was not the same woman from the previous fall!! The real Stevie had reappeared! Thank Heavens~

Chris,
I am not quite sure what it was in Boston. The best way I can describe it is she looked like she was sick. She just didn't have that "it" thing that STevie has. No passion really. She had lost weight but she still looked overlayered or something. I also didn't think her hair looked that great but that is sort of besides the point. There was no spunk, no spark of confidence, none of the subtle, mysterious sexiness that came out again during the Dance taping. Some people at that show said Stevie had quit smoking in the days before, but I am not sure that was true or not. Maybe it was just the three years she had taken off, she was insecure about stepping out again. She has such bad stage fright normally, can you imagine how she felt coming back after the whole SA thing? IMO, reuniting with FM did wonders for Stevie's confidence after the relative failure of her Street Angel album.

I completely disagree. I'm not a gambling woman, but i'd be willing to bet on it. My mom is same age as Stevie and her skin is darker, and she is aging well - mom stopped drinking at 25, still smoked 'rettes...trust me....Also, why don't you guys think she would've had surgery? She got fake boobs in 77 or 78 or whatever, so we already know that she doesn't have any kind of dilemma about doing it - we know she's fairly vain - I don't think she's had a bunch of surgery, but i do think some...

I think so, too -- unquestionably, as far as I'm concerned. But people wonder how, or whether, we can ever be sure about Stevie things. In my own case, I don't feel that I can. So I just lean back & enjoy her show (I'm not talking about her concerts here), while making note of everything she says -- not to measure against some objective semblance of reality, but to incorporate it all into the fiction I've created of her life & times.

Okay, explain! Like, what timeframe are we talking? When do you think she went under the knife? Maybe it will be easier to understand if we know what exactly you mean? But I think every tour she looks dramaticly different. Even the different legs of this tour are so different, especially when she cut her hair and got bangs. Talk about looking like a completely new person!

I just think she looked REALLY sick overall. Her skin was SO pale and made her make-up look weird because of the stark contrasts, she looked very tired, very haggard, and just out of it. Here are some pictures from it:

My mom is same age as Stevie and her skin is darker, and she is aging well - mom stopped drinking at 25, still smoked 'rettes...trust me....Also, why don't you guys think she would've had surgery? She got fake boobs in 77 or 78 or whatever, so we already know that she doesn't have any kind of dilemma about doing it - we know she's fairly vain - I don't think she's had a bunch of surgery, but i do think some...

I think she's had stuff done. You simply cannot abuse yourself the way she did and end up looking so great twenty years later. She's had work done, but who knows to what extent. We all know after seeing her without make-up on who her best friend is: pancake make-up. Just watch Live In Boston. If I were Stevie, I'd sue the make-up artist who dared let me go onstage like that.

Pancake makeup? What's that? I thought she looked great on Live in Boston although the severe closeups where I can count her eyebrow hairs weren't that great!

I just think she looked REALLY sick overall. Her skin was SO pale and made her make-up look weird because of the stark contrasts, she looked very tired, very haggard, and just out of it. Here are some pictures from it:

I really like that first picture! But the second one makes her look sickly. And I don't mind it if she is pale because I am! But there is a difference between really light skin and looking sick.

That second photo isn't a reliable example of someone looking "pale and sick" to me, since it's woefully over-exposed.
One could make George Hamilton look "pale and sick," if the photo is overexposed.

And I agree that she looks great in the first pic.

No, but I was there, as were others who posted in thsi thread. But you must disagree about everything regarding Stevie if I say it, even if I saw her with my own two eyes and thought she looked sickly. ;)

Make-up that resembles pancake mix. Stevie lays it on so thick that Mrs Buttermilk can't even handle her. The close-ups on the DVD showed just how much she had on, and it was rather splotchy.

I just watched part of "The Dance" today because I wanted to see "Silver Springs," which seven years later never fails to give me chills.
Anyway, she's definitely put on some weight since then. Her face looked a lot thinner in '97, and even in those '96 pictures that dissention posted.

One other person in this thread was there. Not "others." :p
And I've talked to others who were also there, and said she looked great.

As usual, it's a matter of perception.

And yeah, if you say it, then there's a good chance I'll disagree with it. Seventeen people could say she looks gorgeous and dissention will say she looked horrible. One-hundred & seventeen can say she did an amazing job performing a song, and dissention will say she sounded atrocious. We love ya for it, diss, but when you say something regarding Stevie, I typically know that the opposite must have been true. When you actually like something, that's when I worry! ;)

I think she has too. :) Her face looks as though she has had some fillers, some heavy peels and maybe a partial neck and jaw lift. On the Tonight Show with Jay Leno kicking off Enchanted, she definitely has had collagen injected into her lips. It's really evident.
She was widely rumored to have lipo prior to the BTM tour. Good for Stevie. I say go for it. She's a rock star and her fans have certain expectations of her.
She does have beautiful skin and I'm sure she's worked hard at maintaining it.

Well it was over seven years ago and she was in her 40's then. And as my Grandma says "Once you reach fifty it's all down hill". Although I have to say that I think Stevie looks hotter in Live in Boston then on The Dance. I think she looks great with a little meat on her!

She's still the hottest fifty something I know of. But then again I think Kirstie Alley is sexy and she is the star of fat actress! So weight must not be an issue with me.

Has Stevie ever been asked if she has had work done? I don't know if she is the type to lie about it or not... Has she ever denied it?

Well after looking at all the recent photos I can find, and the True Spin clip, I have to say if she happened to turn up in my bed I'd be in no rush to get rid of her. I think she looks fantasitic, yes she's showing her age but I can only hope I'll age as gracefully as she is.

Now if you'll excuse me I have some pictures I need to be drooling at :p :) :p

Johnny Stew...I think part of what I saw in Boston was her insecurities showing. She did look sick, even my husband thought so and he is not a big fan like me. (fool) Not deathly ill but tired and she lacked confidence IMO. I thought she looked beautiful as I did her on Street Angel tour, as her weight was never an issue for me. Those three concerts she did in 96 were really the first live shows she did after her SA experience and I guess maybe her fears were heightened. I did leave that show worried about her but not long after when the Dance happened, all was right again with her. BTW..that show in Boston was the last time I saw Lori live! : > (

Back to the topic, Stevie said in some interview, I think in 2001, that she had never had any facial surgery and wouldn't but would consider it on her neck. However, peels, collagen and lasering are NOT surgery. Whatever Stevie feels she needs is cool with me. The way Stevie was filmed for LiB makes me wonder how insecure she is nowadays about her appearance. They barely ever show her from the front and its so obvious that Lindsey was filmed completely differently. Stevie needs to stop worrying so much, she is still a stunning lady.

I rarely ever say Stevie looks bad, so if I see her with my own two eyes ten feet in front of me and she looks sickly, I'm going to say so. If you don't think so, fine, but remember that you weren't there. Fact is that she looked very ill, enough so that I was worried about her when she walked out onstage for the first time.

I was thinking about this yesterday and there are some really gorgeous and sexy fiftysomethings out there who are sexier than most young stars. Stevie, Debbie Harry, Tina Turner (in her sixties!), the list goes on. Hell, I'll even throw Bette Midler in there and she never did anything for me. When I saw her live a couple of months ago, the girl had lost mucho weight, had Shirley Temple-ish blonde hair, and showed lots of leg...the girl looked good. Maybe it has to do with them being a lot more classy about sexuality and not showing their cracks to every Tom, Dick, and Harry.

I believe you saw what you saw. Others I've talked to, thought she looked good, but there are those who don't feel that she did. So whose opinion do you trust? Or do you just not trust either opinion? I don't know.

Maybe she did look sick. I don't want to sound like I think it's a crime to say she did, or that "Our Stevie couldn't POSSIBLY ever look sick." It's not like that at all.
I've just never felt that any of the photographic evidence you've presented from those shows, have ever really reinforced the feeling that she looked sick. She looks good in the pics. Some... like the second one you posted in this thread... are overexposed, so that pretty much make it impossible to judge. But in others with the proper exposure, she looks good.

Maybe it was just one of those things where it was more about how she came across on stage... unsure, uncomfortable, etc.... than how she photographed.
