View Full Version : What Airline Do You Fly Most Frequently?

Houston is Continental's hub, so that's what I'm usually on.
Last year I flew AirTrans and it was like flying in a crowded go-cart, but with less of a feeling of safety.
When I lived in Chicago I was usually on United (always delayed) or USAir.
The worst was this airline I flew as a kid, AIA. Newark to Chicago & back. Ugh.
I still have never been on SW - they seldom fly where I need to fly, and believe it or not, Continental is cheaper here. But Continental never gets my vegetarian meal right.

Delta - I live in Atlanta (their home) so I kind of have no choice

Southwest - I'm a frequent flyer - all the attorneys I work with are frequent flyers - I've got the Southwest Visa card - pretend it's my ATM card - cha-ching! Lots of free round trips in no time! And free drinks w/ the coupon books!

Delta--the joke is that if you live in the South you have to go through Atlanta when you die to get to Heaven. It's true--I pretty much can't fly out of SC unless I go through Atlanta first. Well, that's not totally true, the other alternative is to go through Charlotte via US Air but I much prefer Delta.

Actually, I hate connecting. I fly non-stop whenever I can. But other than in college I've always lived in a big city.

QANTAS, QANTAS never crash (remember Rainman?). Of course being Australian means that I have little choice anyway, besides which I don't know why you'd be against flying with an airline with the best safety record in the world.
As soon as I saw the word I thought Rain Man. :)

EEK - That train to the terminals is a little scary - If I have time I usually walk it. It can be a mile or so to the E terminal, but some of the underground walkways have beautiful African art -plus it is a mini workout before sitting for hours on a plane  Plus, there is a moving side walk for about half of it
BTW - many joke that DELTA stand for Doesn't Ever Leave the Airport

Have you ever watched the A&E show Airline? It follows around a few people that work for Southwest Airlines and shows all of the issues with passengers, fellow employees, etc. at a few of their hubs (LAX, Chicago Midway, etc.) It's an absolute riot how people act when they're unable to make it onto a flight, if they're drunk and can't board...

Yeah, I've heard that for the acronym explanation.
The train was kind of pushed on me - "You have to do the train while you're here" - the same way the OHare folks are so proud of the new agey lighted musical walkway.

Yep, I love that show. And the UK version of it as well...you know that tall, pretty, African-American woman who works in Chicago? I saw her at a distance in May...and one of the counter employees in Chicago told me to look for her in season 2, but I haven't noticed her yet...

On an irrelevant note, QANTAS stands for Queensland & Northern Territory Aerial Services. Yay for Queensland, my state. The airline was started in my state, or atleast the one I claim to be mine based on the lie that I was actually born in Australia.

When I lived in Phoenix, I flew either America West or Southwest, mostly America West. Since I've moved back to Missouri I haven't flown anywhere so I don't know. I will probably be making a trip back to Phoenix sometime this winter (hopefully for the AHI benefit), and then it'll be America West again.

I'm like Livia and fly Southwest! Their Rapid Rewards program is great, it's super easy to get tickets, there aren't really any blackout dates or restrictions like with other airlines, it's always cheap, and I am NEVER delayed as much or have problems with them like I do whenever I fly other airlines. They're very dependable. I can normally get a $75-$80 ticket to fly home to see my family, too (Chicago to KC).
Livia- if you get a lot of rapid rewards tickets, you should totally auction an extra one on Ebay if you're not going to use one. You can make a ton of cash off it!

British Air's First Class section on overseas flights in UNBELIEVABLE - they have a chair that reclines into a bed and they give you a down comforter. The one I was on has a bar on the second level with a piano and a player. I mean HELLLLLOOOOOOOOO luxury. Delta has only Business First, which is nice and WAY better than coach, but is in no WAY comparable to First Class on BA or any other airline with a true First Class cabin.

Anyway, to answer your question, Charlotte is the biggest US Airways hub on the east coast and about 80% of the flights going out of Charlotte are US Airways flights. There is no competition. If you want to go anywhere in the US or the world (with the exception of a handful of Delta, United, and Northwest flights) you have to fly US Airways out of Charlotte. It's a racket.
We're getting a few Independence Air flights in October, though, and I've heard through the grapevine that we are the next city that Southwest is planning on going into next year! *crosses fingers*
and I'm driving to Raleigh in September to fly Southwest to Philadelphia for the AC and Camden shows.

Okay, this is a good post for me to follow...I used to work for Continental. They're nice to work for, too. The only reason I don't anymore is I didn't make enough there. But I LOVED the benefits! They used to sell t-shirts in the company store that said "marry me and fly for free." And I must say, I think it's a nice airline to fly, especially on long flights. We flew to Europe once in business class and it was great. They lay out a buffet and keep it going throughout the flight. Stuff like cheese, wine, appetizers. That's in addition to the main meal they also serve.
But since I don't work there anymore, I've been flying Spirit Air. Definitely no frills, but it's okay. We go out of Atlantic City to FL.
We've also done a good bit on United. Took them to China and back. They were really nice. While in China we flew a couple chinese airlines. THAT was interesting. When we left Nanchang to go to Guangzhou the flight attendants went around the cabin with flyswatters killing all the flies before we took off. Maybe they were fruit flies and they didn't want to export them to another city. Not sure. But they packed you on those planes real tight.

Southwest... absolutely whenever possible... i can fly for $29 to places that take 6 hours to drive to and $60 in gas in my gas guzzling SUV... and i save 5 hours travelling time.... AND when you book online you get an extra flight credit... it's the only airline that i've ever actually earned free flights on and i have tried with 5 different airlines... they just didn't add up quick enough!
i know people say that SW sucks and they don't have assigned seats blah blah blah.... but 90% of my flights are 45 mins to 1 hr 15 mins.... i really don't care about a second rate airline if i spend most of my time on one hour puddle hoppers and i save a lot of money. i mean, what the hell is the point of paying for something more posh when you take off, level out, have 7 mins in the air to take your seatbelt off and go pee, and then you have to be back in your seat with your seatbelt on to start your descent?

Whatever is cheapest. I look at Travelocity, then go to the site of the lowest priced airline. Sometimes I weigh the thrift with the inconvenience of stops and times of travel. Southwest has been good, so has US Air and Delta.

of existence I have yet to fly...Just too claustophobic.
Plus, knowing how much God loves me ("hardy-har-har") I know the first time I would step into a plane the damned thing would crash into either a cornfield or a housing development...Thus I drive.
Besides, I attended courses at Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa (Non-FAA regulated QC/NDT courses, To which us QC/NDT students were treated as "lepers" by the FAA asskissing school Administration.)...I know what "type" of people are currently being trained to work on airliners.

I try to go with Southwest most of the time. My biggest complaint with them is that they need to serve more cities like Atlanta and Denver to name a few.
One of the best things that they did was to add Philadelphia as one of their cities. That is a nice, cheap and also short flight for me.
The worst was Delta. I had my experience with Doesn't Ever Leave The Airport back on May 15. They needed a part for the plane and had to drive it from Boston to Providence. My flight to Atlanta(not much of a choice there) was delayed about 2 hours. I was not too happy. Another thing I did not like about Delta was the refund policy. I had bought a ticket to Raleigh but decided that I was not going to go to the show. I was told to hold on to my confirmation # so I could use it as a credit in the future. Back in June Delta had an online special to Denver but I could not use my credit online. I called customer service and they told me that they had to issue the ticket over the phone however they did not have the discounted price that was only online and said that they could not give it to me. On top of that they charge a 100.00 rebooking fee.
I don't like Delta. :(

Mmmm I'm not sure. I've only flown to Cancun with them, since that's the ONLY PLACE my parents EVER want to go on Vacation. -_- I'm like, "Send me to England! Send me to Germany!" but they ALWAYS go to Cancun. It gets hella old after a while. But everyone knows us there.
My sister & mom are going to Cancun... sometime this December, I think, with ATA.
Here's their website: http://www.ata.com/ I guess they DO go to Philly & Houston. Huh. You learn something new every day.
Thanks, but I was kidding. Who the hell considers Philly & Houston a vacation. ;) (Actually, I guess I do since I'm headed to Philly, but really to see the family.)

I usually do Delta but other than them, i've been on Lufthansa and Midway (like being on a prop plane...scared the hell out of me). Now that Southwest is here and it's dirt cheap to fly out of Philadelphia with them, i'll use Southwest
Is Delta cheaper than others where you are? Where I am it's always more.

All over Alaska. Anything but Southwest. HATE the Who concert seating, and the high number of screaming children - which must be a side effect of cheap tickets.
Oh, that does it.
Nobody ever warned me there would be kids.
Forget SW.

It depends on where I'm going. If I'm flying to Florida to visit my husband's family, we fly Southwest. If we are flying elsewhere, we fly Delta. :D
Any particular reason for Delta?

Sheebus this threads go like a mile a minute on the Chit Chat board.
I don't think I've heard of Independence Air.
I hate rackets.

but Continental has got to be the best I have ever flown
They get high ratings. Or so the brochures claim while I'm on the plane. ;)
Like I said, if they could just get my meal order right.

No. They're all the same. A lot of people think it's cheaper to go to Atlantic City and fly Spirit or Tran. Their prices are ridiculous. It's cheaper for me to fly out of Philadelphia (and much closer). I always pick who I fly with by arrival and departure times. Whoever has the best gets my money and usually it's Delta. Now it'll be Southwest and i'm figuring other airlines will be competing with them so it'll drive down prices on major airlines.

Carol
I guess I only see the tees that say "Come home tonight with me and 'fly' for half price." ;)
Actually, my friend works for an airline here & he and his wife fly everywhere for free as much as they want. Too cool.

You're right, for a shorter flight the frills don't matter as much.

Whatever is cheapest. I look at Travelocity, then go to the site of the lowest priced airline. Sometimes I weigh the thrift with the inconvenience of stops and times of travel. Southwest has been good, so has US Air and Delta.
I have the feeling we're all in the habit of checking prices on the net by now.
I don't mind USAir, but United has given me some bad times.

I've had both those experiences with United. Once when I was in college, and they finally delivered my late luggage by leaving the bags in the snow in the quad rather than coming to my room (or even building) as promised. A friend had to tell me they were out there. Meanwhile I'd been sitting by the phone all day afraid to leave:rolleyes:

American Airlines, I have lo of miles and I even have flight for free 3 times, with miles award.
However American sucks in terms of courtesy and service. Security is ok and I trust them, but most of attendants need a customer service training.
I choose Amercian because it has more flights to Miami and Dallas (the doors to the STates from SouthAmerica).
I prefer LAN Chile (Thanks God it's also One World partner). Attendants are cool, food is better, lot of entertainment (movie channels, gamnes, etc). I also choose this line for flying to B.Aires, Chile. And to the US it goes to LA and Miami. Cool airline.

because it is the cheapest state in the Union to live, Thus why so many citizens over the age of 60...Examples $1.64 Unleaded per gallon & $70.07 Electric bill (During the HOT summer with 2 AC units running constantly) Now why would I leave Oklahoma?
Besides, I enjoy driving...By the end of Deb's Radiation treatments in OKC (5 days a week for 4 weeks) I will have added another 4000+ miles to our car's odometer.

Oh sure! From Lima and other s.a. cities, there are AA flights directly to Miami and Dallas. So connections are thru
Another gateways are Houston and Newark, for Continental flights
Miami and LA, and I guess JFK too., for LAN flights
But the crowdest are always the Miami flights
