So the LA Times finally leaked the plans for Bruce Springsteen and R.E.M.'s big October surprise tour of Swing States. Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews and others are also signing on.

I wonder if our band would entertain the idea of joining in.....

The idea of Lindsey getting together with R.E.M. again would be exciting

and Stevie with Roy Bittan.....

Arrrggggllllllllgggrrrrgglllllll.....

That's the sound of me salivating like Homer Simpson at the mere thought of this happening, no matter how remote the chances are.

I doubt this tour will play in Oklahoma since we are not a swing state.

Fleetwood Mac should sign on to this one...

One more thread that should be in Chit Chat. Why are these non-Fleetwood Mac topics being allowed to stay here?

And by the way, if Kerry still loses after getting all this help from Michael Moore, an anti-Bush book a week, and now even The Boss himself, well, then... he will qualify as a bigger loser than Al Gore, who finally seems to have acquired a spine four years too late.

I'm sorry, but remarks about police, sheriff departments, penitentiaries, paramilitary organizations and traffic cops will have to be moved to the Law Enforcement Forum. ;)

Actually, the original post does fit in with this forum.
It's a legitimate question, or at the very least a wondering by the poster, which deals with the Rumours line-up (well, what we are all now calling the Rumours line-up, without Christine).......
I don't see a big problem.

Because The Ledge is fair and balanced? I noticed when the Kerry Landslide thread took a "sliiiiiiiiiiide", it was "censored" to the chit chat forum. What's The Ledge coming to? :)

Because posting about a Swing State Tour W/Springsteen + REM has no relation to Fleetwood Mac aside from said thread starter mentioning how he/she would like Fleetwood Mac and Lindsey to sign on. It's another thread of political origin that should be discussed in an off topic forum, IMO. Sorry.

Please someone inform me what a "Swing State" is.

a swing state is a state where the election will probably be decided this year.

There are a wopping 18 this year - states such as Ohio, Florida, Washington, Oregon - states where the candidates are neck and neck.

Michael Stipe, Springsteen, Dave Matthews, Dylan and others are organizing shows this fall to energize voters - they'll tour in these states where votes count the most.

Some other big bands have yet to be announced...

I thought we were all in agreement that this tour should END come September 14th

I don't think it's that off-topic. I could seriously imagine Lindsey being interested in something like this. I think he is at a stage of his life where something like this would be fun to him and he would get a chance to possibly show of some new songs before he releases his new solo album in the fall of next year  ....aaaah we can wish, I don't necessarily want the mac becoming a political group but it would be cool to see them do something a bit more "activisty and out-there".

Wrong time for the Mac to get involved in this now. And frankly, becoming political to endorse a candidate has a lot less value in my eyes than actually taking on an issue. I know quite a few artists spoke up as the US launched this unjust war on Iraq under false pretenses, but Fleetwood Mac said nothing. To throw its weight behind a candidate at this point would be just jumping into the political fray. I'd rather see them take a stand on something.

And Lindsey already has by giving songs to the ACLU and a gay rights group. Good for you, Lindsey.

I think it's wonderful these other rockers are going to try to raise political and social awareness, and they should endorse whoever they want. I would appreciate it more at this point if they were channeling their efforts toward getting out the vote, rather than swaying the election. As it is, half the electorate doesn't even bother to go to the polls. And while both Republicans and Democrats insist on making a play for the so-called independent voter, what they should concentrate on is persuading the non-voting voter to go to the polls. Somehow I suspect, and I can't prove it, that most of those non-voting voters would not vote Republican.

I just wanted to add that Stevie also lent songs to both of these groups... granted, "Every Day" had already been released officially when she gave it to GLAAD to use, so it wasn't "brand new," but "Touched By An Angel" was unreleased at the time it was given to the ACLU.

I think it's impressive that Lindsey & Stevie have both been supportive of these two organizations. :)
