I heard from several resources that the book is going to become a film! :blob2: :blob1:

Here's a site with some recent info:

I'm rooting for Hanks to get the lead role.

I'm reading The Da Vinci Code right now, and can't believe how great it is. I heard all the hype, and am finding out that it's all true.

The book reads very much like a movie. Which I think is both a good and bad thing. It's good because it's easy to follow...but bad because it seems almost too simple. Like I'm reading a screenplay.

I heard Ron Howard is directing. I don't care for many of his films.

I'm ticked that I've been teaching a unit on the Great Goddess for years, and this year parents thought I was just riding a trend. Interesting stuff.

I read this book and it was quite interesting...though a little difficult to believe at times. I agree with Josh, the book really reads like a movie and you can almost imagine the scene changes and camera angles as you read it. I only hope that the movie stays true to the story, though I'm guessing I'll be dissapointed.

I wasn't a fan of the book... I thought the writing was pedestrian and I really didn't LIKE how it read like a movie.

That said, it might make a good one. Kate Beckinsale isn't a bad choice to play Sophie if you give her red hair. The story was interesting, and it's been nice to see the goddess issues now brought out into the mainstream through it, although like Jake said- it's unfortunate that those who have had a long interest in the subject now are lumped as bandwagon hoppers.

And while I liked the book for what it was, there are better works on he subject for sure.

Kate Beckinsale? Oh, hell no! Julianne Moore is too old I suppose. I would like a stronger actress, with a little less softness...Kate is very charming and pretty, but...

Keep in mind that Sophie is French...so I'm hoping they cast some obscure French actress. Or even Audrey Tautou, whom I LOVE...even though she doesn't have red hair or a curvy build, as Sophie is supposed to have.

That was my first thought. Other than Meryl Streep, few famous actresses can pull off an accent without really distracting you from the rest of the movie.

I've heard so much about this book and have yet to read it... maybe I should get it for my trip to California this week! :D

It's a quick & easy vacation read if you don't mind carrying a hardback. (Personally I hate mass market size, so I'm used to carrying hardback books, but I know a lot of people hate to travel with them.)

It's been on my to-read list since it's been out. Hopefully, I'll get to it before the summer's over.

I'm thinking I'd like that chick who played the French princess in Braveheart. Her name eludes me, but I believe it may be Sophie too.

EDIT: Her name is Sophie Marceau. I thought she ruled in that flick.

The book annoys me, which I'm aware places me in a minority... :)

I find him guilty of being dishonest with the reader: specifically, he places you, the reader, in a character's head, and privy to their innermost thoughts, for the duration of a chapter. Right up to the point where they see something horrifying, dramatic, important, at the end of a chapter. At which point he suddenly stops allowing you that insight, for what to my mind is a cheap attempt at suspense, and switches viewpoint character for a dozen pages.

Repeatedly.

To my mind, this is, as I said, being dishonest with the reader: offering something (the intimacy with the character's thoughts), and then taking it away again to play with the reader's emotions.

My bigger problem with it was that I read Angels And Demons and it's the same book.

That's so true, except I found Angels and Demons far less believable. Antimatter? Illuminati? It was all just too exaggerated for me.

You're right, A & D wasn't as well done as TDVC. It was like a first, less polished draft of the other.

I'm reading the book, I'm half of it. It's cool. Though I heard a lot about it and it's dissapointing since I don't find it that great!

But it always happen to good things when they talk and praise too much (singers, movies, bands, books, etc). Remember The Bee Gees, Titanic, they were good stuff but you got sick of them.

The book is good, cool, pleasant, but that's it.

I would enjoy a good movie about The Da Vinci Code, anyway.

as an old Star Trek fan who has seen much of the technology on that show become science FACT, (many of the great scientists of that time (Harlan Ellison, Carl Sagan) were consultants on that show) I suspect antimatter is fait acompli. and the illuminati WANT you to disbelieve. it makes their insidious inflitration that much easier.

Antimatter exists (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2004/10/04/MNGM393GPK1.DTL)
