Boy oh boy, I love what they do with my tax dimes.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/07/21/military.perks.reut/index.html

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- The U.S. Army has long lured recruits with the slogan "Be All You Can Be," but now soldiers and their families can receive plastic surgery, including breast enlargements, on the taxpayers' dime.

The New Yorker magazine reports in its July 26th edition that members of all four branches of the U.S. military can get face-lifts, breast enlargements, liposuction and nose jobs for free -- something the military says helps surgeons practice their skills.

"Anyone wearing a uniform is eligible," Dr. Bob Lyons, chief of plastic surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio told the magazine, which said soldiers needed the approval of their commanding officers to get the time off.

Between 2000 and 2003, military doctors performed 496 breast enlargements and 1,361 liposuction surgeries on soldiers and their dependents, the magazine said.

If the surgeons need "practice," why would you even want them to operate on you? Why not practice on the plastic surgery junkies like Michael Jackson, Joan Rivers, the living Barbie doll beeyotch, et al?

This **** pisses me off....

what pisses me off is that the US Army will pay for cosmetic surgery for soldiers & their families, While at the sametime pay those same soldiers less than what a minimum wage job can...

I was really disappointed about a couple years ago wehn Deb went to donate blood (As a nurse she felt a need to help, And after her illness it seemed to come back to her) and saw many US Army soldiers donating plasma for cash because they werent receiving enough pay to get by...Whatta a steaming pile of BS!!!

Sick, Ab-so-lute-ly SICK!!!

This was my first thought, too. So many military families are scrimping & couponning, & the government will give up the $ for this crap?

Not to mention all the people that live in this country that have little to no health insurance that barely cover the cost of medication let alone actual surgeries that are needed. But sure, join the military and get a set!

is that Deb's insurance provider will not pay for her to have a "fatty tumor" removed from her upper left shoulder/neck area (I think the medical term is either "lipoma" or "lypoma") since it would be considered a cosmetic procedure...But yet our "much loved" government is giving access to free cosmetic surgeries?

Man, Since those government asses are in such a giving mood why don't they give free enema's to those in Congress & the Senate...And don't forget Shrub & his Dick, I mean his VP Dick...

And we're the richest country in the world.

Is it Brazil where plastic surgery access is cheap & easy & tons of people have it done? If not, it's some other Latin American country. Was featured on a news magazine some time back, I think 60 Minutes.

I'm not sure that Brazil is cheap and easy but yes, a ton of people do have it done there. Fake boobs abound on their beaches.

I suspect that MA is going to be over-run in two more years. In 2006, we're getting universal healthcare for everyone in the state.

That will NEVER happen in New Jersey. With so many people per sq. mile, I swear they look for ways to screw us. Did you hear the latest? New Jersey has now implimented a sales tax on all cosmetic surgery. How hysterical is that?

has existed for years in Oklahoma, The IHS (Indian Health System) provides medical/healthcare for ALL of those who are members of an Indian Tribe (Thus being Cherokee, I have health coverage.) and no one is turned away.

Smaller things have popped up here for those who are non-Indian, But to less success.

I'm sure it won't stop doctors from getting plenty of patients but I do think that they'll see an increase in cosmetic surgery in PA and DE (no taxes in DE!) with people coming over from NJ. The whole tax thing is outrageous...you should see my pay stub...i don't even know what half of the stuff they take out is for. Yep, they certainly do like to stick it to ya in Mass as well

Fortunately, this would encompass all Yankees.
