Unless I've been hanging out with Phil Collins fans for too long (i.e. my father and my sister), I didn't realize people actually didn't like him. Yes, I saw that South Park episode last night... :D ...which was freaking hilarious!
I don't wanna start anything, just want to ask... "is he really disliked so much?"
Just morbidly curious... ;)

Well, I just think he sucks, as do most people i know. He's sort of the comedy touchstone for musical badness. Yanni, Kenny G. Phil Collins...I heard also that he was a d@#*. You know, a drummer who thinks he's the whole band...Like how Suzanne Sommers (as Crissy) thought she was the whole show, the star, etc. How "radar" from Mash thought he was the whole show. You know, people who suck with giant egos? I know he doesn't always suck, so don't take offense, and i don't know all his work...it's just pretty much some kind of consensus.
Happy Listening!

I always though the was kind of lame and cheesy...but that's just me...haha...I don't hate him or anything, and have never met anyone who hated him....but I have known people who really liked him...soo...dunno

Well...I really liked him when he first started with Genesis. I also saw him solo in concert back in the early 80's, right when he first went solo. He was greatness on the drums! But the further he got into his solo career, the less I liked him. He became way more "poppy". I also heard he told his then wife he wanted a divorce by FAX. If true, classy guy.

It's the first time I read that about Phil. I'm not a fan at all, but I like some of his songs: Take me Home, In the air tonight, Against all odds.
He played a great concert in Peru, in the late 90s, I think it was the "Both sides" tour. Never heard from press he was a d****, but really don't know about him. What I do know is that his music is very pop and commercial, not like the old Genesis profile. I liked some Genesis songs, also. Would be interesting to know what Rutherford and the other member think about him

I've never cared for him or his music. I've read some nasty rumors on the internet that have no bearing, as I formed my opinion years ago.

And BTW I LOVE the song I can Feel it Coming in the Air tonight. But can't say that makes me like Phil Collins.

I liked the No Jacket Required days, and some of his other singles in the late 1980s, but nothing he's released since about 1990 has done a thing for me. Is it just me or does everything he's released since 1990 sound alike? I also loved Genesis' Invisible Touch album, but couldn't get into anything they did after that.
I'd really love to know what became of Mike Rutherford's side project, Mike + The Mechanics. I still can't listen to the song "The Living Years" without getting chills--it was released right around the time my father died, when I was 14, and it had a profound effect on me.

Yep!
And in recent years he's become VERY talented at creating the perfect soundtrack for kicking up your feet at Starbucks and enjoying a nice frappucino, as well!

Hayley, I LOVE your Elliott Smith banner!
Phil Collins lost all his cool in the 80s when he started making cheesy pop records. And now he's responsible for the Brother Bear soundtrack. I love Disney but really does anyone want to go and see a movie with Phil Collins singing songs about bears? Scary...
Thanks about the banner! I had a maudlin night last night with a bottle of wine and Elliott, and the banner and a headache were what came out of it.
I'm wondering if there will ever be another Disney film withOUT a Phil Collins song in the future. It'd be nice!!
