View Full Version : Is this what you want from me?
I'm reading Mick's book and he said something about during the Tusk tour, Stevie singing "Is this what you want from me?" at the end(?) of Rhiannon. Mick said it was in Dallas.
Does anyone have a copy of this that they could send me or post on a website?
Thanks.

a show from overseas where the "Is that what you want from me" was added onto the end of possibly "Rhiannon".
Wished I could remember which show it was (It may have been from the Melbourne 1980 bootleg...I cannot really remember)

I have 1/2 of the Mobile, AL soundboard from August, 1980 that has this version. I'm sure she sang those lines in other performances from that period.
I don't recall where i downloaded it from. Check the trade pages and i'm sure you can find it. Bryan has a pretty comprehensive trade list: http://www.angelfire.com/music3/rhiannon/Demos.html
At any rate...this is a GREAT show. They were really loose and it shows. Actually, i think Stevie chants "Dreams unwind, loves a state of mind....is this what you want?" They really extended the songs out pretty long. I wish the full show would surface.
Good Luck!

Rotterdam, too. June 13, 1980 (or at least that's what I have it labeled as...)

In my version she says "Is that what you want?" and it lasts 9 min 37secs. Does it get any better than that? I'd like to know exactly who she was talking to? The band and the record companies or the audience?

The mobile version of rhiannon (is this what you want and all) is not even close to as good as Rhiannon gets. I don't really happen to like that version all that much. There are much better from the two earlier touras and even on the Tusk tour there are many better Rhiannon's.

I'd like to know who she is speaking to also. It seems like she was very bitter about something. Maybe she was talking to everybody...rec execs, aud, ect...because she was hurt, coked out and just plain tired. I was just listening to Joan of Arc and I can't figure out what that song is supposed to be about either???

I defy anyone to find me a middle vamp in any other era's Rhiannon that is as instrumentally tight & creative. The four of them are ostensibly sharing brain cells at that point, the way great jazz players do.
"It's an acquired taste," a friend of mine commented. "Well, I've acquired it," I said.

I know that you were replying to the hawk...and I agree with you about the rumors concert years. they were the greatest. I wish I was old enough to have gone to one of those shows!
The 4 of them ostensibly sharing brain cells...o.k...yes...lol

BTW? What do you mean by youir quote?Nobody likes the way Fleetwood Mac sounded in August 1980 upon first exposure. I saw three shows in person that month, & remember some people's reactions -- people who were expecting a smoother, more melodic Fleetwood Mac sound, similar to what you heard on the vinyl. But people grow to love those shows, although sometimes it takes years of continual exposure to recordings or videos or what-have-you.

I watched one of the Rumours shows last night and IMO, the lack of inspiration in their playing appears related to them being too high onstage. It's the one where Stevie is wearing her black diamond poncho and Linds is sporting the white Saturday Night Fever suit. Linds has very dark circles under his eyes, as does Mick. I don't know if this is what you mean by dreadful though. There is on that same tape a different show form the Rumours era where Stevie does a positively stellar performance of Landslide, one of the best I've ever heard.
