In honor of my birthday (how vain can I get? ), here's a birthday thread. What are your favorite and least favorite memories of birthdays past (doesn't necessarily have to be your birthday)?

Favorite:
- 1996 ~ All my friends come over and we have a regular pool party.

- 1996 ~ At my sister's birthday party, my dad mushes my sister's face into her cake

Least Favorite:
- 1998 ~ My grandfather is sick with cancer, and he dies four days later :distress:

- 1995 ~ My best friend falls off my deck and breaks his leg. Ok it was a little funny at first....

- Big parties when I turned twenty and thirty-one

- My grandmother dying on my dad's birthday

I don't usually like birthdays.

But happy birthday, Ryan.

Favorite:
2003 - I went to Guatemala on a missions trip and was there for my birthday. They had this celebration in this church and all these Guatemalans sang songs to me and hugged me. I was really homesick at the time, so that helped a little.

2004 - I did the 30 hr Famine with my friends and then got the Rumours and Tusk re-issues...plus FM concert tickets

Least Favorite:
1995 - 7th birthday. It was Lion King themed except for the last present which was...pink pants. Hmmm...I was no more of a pink fan then than I am now. And of course in my family, when you got clothes you immediately have to go try them on to make sure they fit. And then someone misses them so you have to try them on again. This was a process that drove me crazy. So after the second or third time that I had to try these on I muttered under my breath "I hate these"...but unfortunately my uncle heard me. Oh...bad! I got in so much trouble and had to appologize to my pregnant aunt who had gone to all the trouble to buy me these wonderful pink pants.

Maybe it's different for boys, but I HATED getting clothes as gifts. Anything was better.

Hey, the older you get, the more likely it is you'll get underwear and socks for your birthday

Yeah, but the more likely the underwear will have a fun theme.

Happy Birthday, Ryan! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Honestly, I can't think of any really good birthday memories from my childhood, except getting keys to the car on my 16th birthday (FREEDOM!).

Probably my best birthday was my 30th. My sister wrote me a song, put signs up the entire 10 miles from my house to my job and my ex-husband gave me 30 roses (too bad he didn't keep doing stuff like that or he might not be my ex today  ).

By far my WORST birthday memory was my father-in-law dying 20 minutes before midnight the night before my 40th birthday. It was horrid. But looking back, I sure didn't spend any time feeling sorry for myself. It put that rite of passage in perspective in a big way.

Well that was a downer...sorry...Happy Birthday again!

I always loved my birthdays...

My favorite birthday memories:

When I was little my unlce would dress as Santa and come to my birthday parties (My birthday is Dec. 22) and he's a great Santa, so fun was had by all...

Then my 18th birthday...my best friends threw me a surprise party at our normal lunch place - our favorite teacher's classroom....the cake was Star Wars themed, complete with action figures, and all of my presents were Fleetwood Mac related....:D It was awesome, and probably one of the best birthdays ever...

As for bad memories, I really don't have any, my birthdays were always great, the only bad thing I can think of is my mother's neurotic party mode getting on my nerves on my B-day...other than that....I love birthdays!!

Happy Birthday Ryan!!

but I can clearly recall my older brother Geary's birthday on Oct.21,1977 (Surreal is the only word I have)...

The next morning of Oct.22,1977 changed our lives when we were involved in a head-on collision (With a drunken assmunch) that killed our Father instantly, and nearly took the life of my Mother (To an extent it damaged our family structure beyond repair)

Yeah clothes are a sucky gift...unless it's pj pants or hoodies. Otherwise you might as well give me toilet paper. Don't give me a necessity for a present.

Well, my fellow Connecticut Ledgie~~Ryan~~Happy Birthday to you. Hope you have a great day.

As I get older I don't remember every single one but I will weed through the cobwebs for some that really stand out.

Good Ones:
I was about 7 or 8 and I had a friend party at the Ground Round, it was not always easy to get my friends to come to my parties as I was born in July and everyone travels.

1983: I went to Lake Compounce with my mom and a close friend. I had a blast on the rides and there was a band there playing "I'm So Afraid"!

2001: Going to Mansfield Ma. a few days before my birthday to see the Stevie TISL show and spending time with three fellow fans and friends.

2002: Dinner and a movie with my friend and co worker. I ate so much I could burst and the movie Austin Powers (the third installment) was a hoot!

Bad Ones: Ones I have forgotten but I remember one from around 1996 or 1997~~ my brother being a complete ass in a rush to have us go to dinner and get home so he could go out later. And my mom not being very supportive of it being my day so we all went home, in a bad mood and hungry to boot.

This year~~in fact,a few more days will be my next birthday, no plans yet but I will come up with something. But as I get older, they aren't as monumental to me. And I have learned to make them a family-free day!

Have a good one, Ryan!

They're hooded jackets. Think Kenny from South Park.

Have a good birthday, Ryan!

My Favorite Birthday Memories:

Last year: I went to the Hard Rock Cafe and saw one of the FM record RIAA awards! I got my picture taken with it!

When I was turning ten, my grandfather got me a silver dollar with my birth year on it! I found it earlier this year and I cleaned it. It's now my lucky charm. :D

Worst Birthday Memories:

I have only one: it's also was my 10th birthday. Earlier that morning, I had gotten head lice. Thank God the party still continued! But my parents had a fun time cleaning up my bedding and washing my hair!

I'm just curious why they'd be listed as a cool birthday gift compared to other clothes. Seems random to me.

I've enver had a good b-day lol, my mom and step dad are too lazy to bake a cake for my sister and I, so we never get one, and we only get one present...Thankfully, our grandparents aren't cheap, so we get more gifts lol

Good AND bad birthday: I was sick as hell all day on my 20th. I felt like **** all day. Until 11:45 pm, when my best friends husband called me, called me FIRST to let me know "it's a boy!" He's gonna be 7 this year (I'll be 27) and he's my Birthday Buddy!

Good birthday: my 23rd. I had so many people go out and party with me. We went to a comedy club, then bar hoppin'. I was so drunk, a friend of mine knew one of the DJ's at one of the clubs, so he had the dance floor CLEARED, and he and my husband drug me out there (I DO NOT DANCE  ) While the whole bar sang happy birthday to me, and I had my hubby in front and friend in back "freakin' " me.... I was so embarassed, but it's good memories....

Bad birthday: Last year... My 26th. It was just 4 months after Jason died. I hated it. Hopefully, this year is better for me....
