For those ledgies who play, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a decent acoustic guitar for a beginning adult student. Preferably not too pricey. I'm thinking about getting one for my friend who has expressed interest in learning, but I don't want to spend too much since it may just be a passing fancy. Thanks!

Dude, how much are you willing to spend? There are plenty of options, but price range varies wildly.
On the low end, you could pick up something like a Seagull S6 or Epiphone AJ18s. Either of those will cost less than $300. Ibanez makes some good models in the $150-to-$300 range as well. Same goes for Alvarez. For a beginner it may not matter much, but the ones I would recommend have a solid wood top, which produces a much better tone than guitars with particle-board tops. The Seagull S6, Epiphone AJ18s and Alvarez RD20 and AD60 models have solid tops.
I have an EpiphoneAJ18s, which is my "beater" guitar. It's the one I take with me on vacations and leave out on the stand; it sounds good enough and it's inexpensive (about $220). Check out this link: http://www.music123.com/Acoustic-Guitars-6-String-d2454.music

Thanks to both of you! I'll be heading out today trying to make a decision, and at least now I'm better informed on what's out there.
