I think that was the very first video in MTV.. however I think radio star didn't and will never die. RADIO ROCKS!!!

But talking about videos... I always have read about the very first "video" (even pre-mtv). Since I don't think a "video" is just the band playing in a tv studio, there has to be a work, a production, let's check what can be the oldest rock or pop video.

I saw the ABBA story dvd few weeks ago. It says they brought the videos before MTV, specially when they decided not to tour for a year (circa 1979), but I'm sure it's wrong, there are older videos of course.

Can't remember a Beatles video, I do remember their movies. So I'm not soure if they are pioneers in videos.
Stones, Doors, Dylan, I have not seen old videos. Just tv shows or clips from concerts. Or movies.

The oldest genuine video I do remember is.. Queen: BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY (1975)

But maybe chili D or other great guru ledgies can remember older videos.

The Monkees had mini music videos in their TV show. They would act silly and run from the bad guys while Last Train to Clarksville played. :)

What I have always heard is that Ricky Nelson had the first "video" in 1961, but there are people (family members of the Big Bopper) who are arguing now that the Big Bopper had the first "video" in 1958. I think there is litigations about this matter to have the record books changed to state this. Right now, though, Ricky Nelson has the crown.

Blondie were the first to have videos for each song on an album (eat to the beat).
