Yes. But I've never done it myself. You're splotchy for a few days, then your skin looks fine.

but I once had Chromium Oxide dye splattered onto my back at work and it peeled me like a banana.

Nothing like having something burn you so bad that yer instantly blistered and yet feel so frikkin' ice cold as it does so...

I didn't do it myself, the woman who did didn't put enough stuff on my face, so I told her to put more. She put on more than enough. If I had done it myself, I would've burned my skin off.

I used to get these semi-regularly at the derm's as part of a treatment. For god sake, don't forget to put sunscreen on!! Well, unless you want to help yourself become a super wrinkle puss... :D

It takes off the dead icky layers of your skin, therefore it cleans it a lot. If you have a clogged pore problem, a series of them can really help. For people without acne, it just brings out a fresh clean layer of your skin, is supposed to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and aging because of that. It's a pretty good treatment, overall. If you have sensitive skin or absolutely no problems with the appearance of your skin, I wouldn't really recommend them. Maybe once a year or something.

No, I'd never have Botox. Botox comes from the fungus that grows in canned food. And every time I hear Botox, I think of Nip/Tuck when Christian got an injection into his crotch.

I take good care of my skin, I've used Roc and Serious Skin Care for YEARS. I don't have a single wrinkle and I look like I'm 12. I just had it done this morning because I wanted to see what it was like and everyone has dead skin they need taken off. ;) And I can't believe I paid $90 to look like I slept on rotten strawberries.

I can't go with chemical peels. I have to have dermabrasion. My acne scars are deep, so chemical peels won't work. Dermabrasion is where they literally take a "sander" to the top layers. I don't look forward to going to the dermatologist, because it requires you to take a few weeks off from work. I'm still debating on whether I really want to do this...

And, gldstwmn, you do look very nice. I could have sworn you weren't over 29! ;)

Does dermabrasion have the same after effects (redness, splotchiness, irritation) as a chemical peel? I'm interested in this myself...

I've had saline instead of collagen and it didn't hurt one bit. I was in a car accident and split my bottom lip really badly and it didn't heal correctly, so I had the saline injections to even it out. It lasted for about two months, during which the lip healed...thank god. Worked wonders.

Kind of related topic: has anyone tried Strivectin? It is a cream that was originally marketed for reducing the appearance of stretch marks, but now people are using it for wrinkles. The ad copy says it is "better than Botox." It's $135 for six ounces, with a money back guarantee.

For reals? I've heard about that. I got this fab stuff, and i've not really been able to use moisterizers much, cause my skin is oily, but I've totally noticed a difference in my skin quality when i put it on at night, and of course, the evidence supports it. It's Co-Q10 toner and lotion. I think the lotion especially. It's cheap, too. Well, not cheap, but relatively cheap.

Yes, and then some. A peel is a lighter form of exfoliation. Think: abrasion.... they are literally taking a "drill" of sorts to your scars. Kind of like a router. My face is moderately scarred, I'm worse then most, but not half as bad as some. I would probably be bandaged up for a few. It's gonna suck if I ever make up my mind to do it.

But hell, if I do that, I may as well get a tummy tuck and have my ass lyposuctioned!

Not to mention, it's recommended you have the treatment in a series of six, nine, or twelve times. That? Gets mighty costly as well. Here, to have it done 12 times costs $1300. Ouch.

AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Welcome to the Italian side, sweetie! become...one of us, one of us.... :D Seriously, if your skin is extra oily, consider washing it less. and it probably is the humidity. Just rinse it with water. And at night, when no one can see you, I recommend putting moisterizer. The thing is, if your skin already thinks it has enough oil, it will produce less. But if you continually put drying things like soap and toner on, it will think it is too dry, and produce more oil. A lot of people would have less problems if they sort of left a lot of their product off their skin. Hope this helps! P.S. I've been going to the derm since 6th grade, i'm practically an expert! :wavey:

I never, ever, EVER "wash my face". The hot water from the shower is enough for me. After that- a liberal coating of Lubriderm.

If I put any type of cleanser on my face it would be one gigantic, dried up, flaky mess!

I never, ever go in the sun and if I HAVE to be exposed to the sun, it's SPF 60 Baby Butt Style sunblock for me.

And, yes, I am a vampire. However, I'm a vampire with healthy skin and ZERO wrinkles.

I can't wash my face either or it dries up considerably and gets red. But I shave every day (changing the disposable razor every three uses) using sensitive skin unscented shaving cream, & I use Eucerin Daily Sun Defense daily. It's only SBF 15, but it works really well, and it's the only thing that does not leave my face greasy or dried out. In the last year the stores near me have stopped carrying it, so I order it online. It's worth it.
I don't use anything to fight wrinkles (can't say I care much), but I'm told I look younger than I am. I had the kids convinced I was the same age as the teacher next-door, who's over ten years younger, and I got carded last month. For real.

I'm told I look younger than I am. I had the kids convinced I was the same age as the teacher next-door, who's over ten years younger, and I got carded last month. For real.

I think this phenomena runs in my family. I get carded CONSTANTLY, and me, my mom, and my sister can all pass for at least 5 years younger than we really are.

I'm surprised at your skin care regimen. I don't know very many straight men who are that high maintenence, especially the razor thing....three times and then tossed? You must go through a lot of razors!

Actually I saw on TV recently that you're not supposed to use them more than three times. They can get jagged & even moldy. That's what disposable means.
I don't think my skin "regimen" is high maintenance other than being restricted to certain products. It's just my skin is really sensitive, so I use fresh razors, unscented shaving cream (still by Edge), and an unscented sun-bloc. That's the whole thing right there.
And you do look young, unless you've aged since the Dallas meet-up.

Well, the Queer Eye guys shun disposable razors altogether. But I've been buying the new Bic triple blades lately and I love them.

And I hear ya on the oily skin in humid climates! I'm way past being a teenager, but I still have the oily skin and occasional zit problems I had when I was in high school.

My regimen - a mild cleansing gel just for faces to wash - I do NOT use any eye make-up remover (don't want to pull on the delicate skin around the eyes) and a good cleanser will wash it off anyway - tepid water only - plain old witch hazel for astringent - and oil-free moisturizer with suncreen. And at night, I NEVER go to bed with makeup on - big no-no!! I use eye cream and a night-time moisturizer. I exfoliate every other day in the shower and do a mud mask once a week. Although I do enjoy basking in the sun, I use #30 SPF on my face. I love Coppertone's sensitive skin one - it's the only one that doesn't burn my eyes after I've jumped in the pool.

Chris - I had no idea about the botox! You DO look mahvelous, dahling.

Tracye - I don't know how old you are, but you look really young!

Thank you dahling. :xoxo: You've just given me the motivation I need today to get up off my a** and do 45 minutes on the elliptical.

Well, it got you to stop fussing over my hair. Don't get your thong in another knot.
