I have. Today. It hurts.
I ran home from work because I had an installer put in a screen door on my house. I had a wreath hanging up on the front door. The installer had already been here, installed the door, and left. My wreath was on the porch. When I went to pick it up, a wasp was in there and stung the back of my hand. It HURT... Come to find out, there was four "cocoon" (sp?) things in the wreath. She was protecting her bastard babies.
Anyhow, my hand is swollen. Did I mention it hurts?
What's your story?

I cannot believe you just posted this.....lol...
As a matter of fact, I was stung today too. By a bumble bee, right down from the left butt cheek... It hurts like hell. It's swole up the size of a softball and man does it itch!!! I haven't been stung for years, since i was a pip squeak. I was seeding and mulching a yard. After I went back at it, here one comes again. He was flat pissed, chasing me around, i was sqealing, it was probably a funny site. My husband come over to see what all the comotion was and found a nest of 5 or 6, I guess we disturbed their nest.
That's my story!

My first sting was by a wasp at the swim club when I was ten. I went to climb the slide and this big black wasp was on the handle of the latter. I got stung on the inside thumb part of my right hand, and did it swell and itch.
Same swim club where the yellowjacket bit my chest four times and drank the dripping blood, if you remember that story.
I* hate that place.

Sorry to hear that. And I hate to say it, but just wait until the itching starts. :(

I was teaching a riding lesson and all of a sudden my student tells me to watch out. I didn't know what she was talking about but I moved and of course I then got stung by a wasp on my forearm. Maybe if she hadn't told me that I wouldn't have been stung. Anyway my entire forearm swelled up and I couldn't do very much with my arm. I remember I went out to dinner that night and I had to use my left hand to hold the fork and eat and I am right handed.

That cracked me UP!!!
I've never been stung by a wasp or bee. I've been bitten by spiders and ants, just like anyone has, I suppose. My mom and dad were BOTH stung by bumblebees on their head one time!

So I have this unnatural and intense fear of flying things that sting....I HATE them...
Once, I was just peacefully lying in bed ona summer's morn. Well, I feel something on my arm, it felt like a "Flick..." like when someone flicks you...so I casually just brushed off whatever it was only to notice it wasn't leaving my arm area, well..it was attached to my arm via a stinger...dumb ass bee....I was just lying in bed...I have no clue where it came from or what prompted it to sting me....it hurt like hell....
Soo..I'm SO afraid of being stung by a wasp...I hear they hurt more than bees...and the fact that they can sting multiple times freaks me out...
Anyway Maria..hope your hand gets to feeling better....

Sorry, but your fear comment reminded me of the movie preview I saw last night. I think the film is called "Open Sea" & it seems to be about two divers who are accidentally left behind by their boat for days in the middle of the ocean. You just sea them in the water, and sharks & jellyfish are coming at their legs & they have nowhere to go. That's my big fear. There was a preview for some anaconda movie & it was nothing compared to this shark one, IMO!

That reminds me of one summer down in Ocean City Maryland. I guess I was probably 9 or 10. The jellyfish were BAD that year...we're talking kids were bringing 10 and 12 up at a time on their boogie boards and throwing them into the trashcan because there were so many. A ton came at me at once and I had nowhere to go...my leg looked lovely.

I've never been stung by them, but the Texas beaches get their share.
And don't worry. Some day your legs might look nice again. ;)

First, you scream because you don't know what hit you. Then, you look down and see the floating blob and scream again because it keeps rubbing up against you. Next, you move away from it BUT...it has friends on the opposite side of you...and then you're stung five more times. I just remember running out of the water and crying because it stung so badly.
Yea, my legs might look nice if I was able to actually get outside for more than 5 minutes these days. Ooooh pale shadow...

One time, in second grade,(at band camp  ) we were at lunch eating on the outside benches and a wasp landed on my lunch. Of course i was scared ****less, so I panicked a bit and then called the yard duty lady, forgetting that she hated me. I was like "ah.ah.ah. aaaaahhhh, wasp, wasp, wasp!!!!!! help!!!" so the lady said something bitchy, like "it's just a wasp, you little honyock" and she went to flick it, and i was like "nononononononononono!!!!!" cause i could see where her flick was pointing. so, yep, she flicked it right onto my arm where it immediately stung me. I had my uncle Ghidossi take her out. also, 3 bees on my foot. Sorry your hand is swollen, I didn't know that happened.

Maria - take a benadryl - the swelling is caused by histamines that the bastard bug injected into you - so, you need an anti-histamine, natch.
I've been stung by yellow jackets - both times on the hand - and 1 of those nasty man-of-war buggers got me on the foot Florida. I was only 8 for that, scared me to death.
Jake - I never go to the beach without some Adolf's Meat Tenderizer. It works great, and it's less embarrasing than urine.

Nothin' says a day at the beach like some meat tenderizer  I've never heard such a thing but i'll keep that in mind the next time I go into the ocean.
Let Jake embarass himself...just don't let him embarass me :wavey:

In 20 years I've never been stung by a bee or a wasp. Is this unusual?

I took some Benadryl this morning before I went to work. I can see the veins in my hands again! The swelling is gone, but the back of my hand feels bruised.
Bastard bugs.....

This story really sucks...
It was the day I was having my 9th birthday party. I had all my lil' friends over. My best friend (who still is my best friend) had on a half shirt, and some cotton shorts. When she went to sit down, a wasp had flown in her shirt, and stung her right in her belly button. She was a cryin' fool. I reminded her of that today, and told her what happened to me, and she laughed at me.
The nerve....

Maria - take a benadryl
This phrase caught me off guard and struck me as absolutely hysterical.
I think it could become a new catch phrase. The next time I get guff off a cashier at Target or some other godawful retail place, I am using it. Could be a good bumper sticker too.
BTW- Totally sucks that you got the wasp sting. They are hateful little winged agents of Satan.

I remember two such episodes
1) I was about 8 or 9 years old and loved to frequent the swamp lands where all the kids hung out, it was also a short cut to the baseball field. I guess we had heavy rains and when I went to jump from piece of land to another the water was wider than expected. So I woke up every bug in the swamp and was attacked. I must have stirred up a nest. I had numerous bites that were like burning hot mountains, I was even delirious from the fever I got.
2) About six years ago, I was in a McDonalds waiting in line to order and something went in my hair so I brushed at it and can we say burning pain. My finger was on fire and I saw the source of my pain flyng through the dining area so I made my order to go!
Defintiely nasty little F**ks!!
