View Full Version : the new Batman? Keaton was best!

So I see Christian Bale is the new Batman. I hope they aren't going to ruin the "new franchise" before it even gets off the ground. I still can't get over Michael Keaton being the best Batman there was. He was dark, and brooding, and he had the perfect voice! Sure he didn't really "look" the part of Bruce Wayne, but it didn't matter...he was believable. I think the first two Batman's were the best, and even though that had Tim Burton's stamp all over them, they still stand up as "definitive Batman."

I would die to see Keaton come back and re-do an aging Batman. They could adapt the script from Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns" for all you graphic novel aficionados out there.

All I wish is that Tim Burton was directing it again. Pure genius. Edward Scissorhands, Batman, he's the best director there is, hands down.

But I don't mean to change the subject. Keaton was an awsome batman. He was great, and really sold the vengeful, mysterious attitude.

I never cared for any of the Batman movies, though I usually love comic book hero stories. I know the movie sucked, but I like Val Kilmer, though I admit he wasn't quite right for the role. And I hate that Batdance song by Prince.
I'm not sure I know Christian Bale (Was he the one in that dragon movie?), but I'm at least relieved they gave up the efforts to cast Nicholas Cage as Superman. That would have been painful, no offense to his many fans here.

Jake, I think you've probably seen the film Swing Kids (if not, you need to rent it...trust me...EXCELLENT film...I think you'd like it). He played Thomas in the film

Kilmer was okay (I have a friend who did costumes on that one with stories that would curl Dissention's hair). Clooney was fine. But I have a weakness for Clooney. A few of them.
Bale is gonna be good, I think. There is something kind of brooding and off about him, and I think that'll be interesting. Plus, the dude is sexy as all get out, IMO. In kind of a frat boy gone bad kinda way...

Yeah, the Governator didn't help it either. That movie made no sense. Even Uma Thurman couldn't save it. I hope this new guys does a decent job. Nobody will top Keaton though. Batman and Batman Returns are the only good Batman movies made so far. The others blew chunks, unfortunatly.

My favorite Batmans were the first and the third. And I didn't care for the batmas but for the bad guys. The Joker and th Riddler were the best! Followed by Catwoman of course.

Poison Ivy was cool but the movie was too.. overloaded. It was more like a cartoon. Yeas, they missed what TIm Burton tried to transmit in the first two.

And though Tim Burton didn't directed it, I liked the third one.

Christian Bale, I loved him in Little Women. BUT he is totally not this tough guy. To me, he is sensitive and quiet.

But I suppose he's shown his other side. I am curious, very curious.

As for Keaton, I never saw that movie ( gasp!) but I hear from everyone he was the best. I always just opted for the tv show as a kid.

OH Janet...! You've got to see Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992). Keaton put the bat on the ball with that role. *No pun intended!* I think he really set what the role was supposed to be like. Good to see all the Keaton supporters out there!

I failed to mention that I actually met Michael Keaton back in 1997, in Los Angeles, while living with my dad. He signed a Batman poster for me and said "I love signing the Batman stuff." I asked him if he would ever play Batman again, and he said it was an "upcoming possibility." At that time they were talking about doing a Superman movie, with a Batman cameo or something. Too bad that fell thru...!

I'm not an Uma fan either, though she was fine in Dangerous Liaisons. Sorry, I never got why people make such a huge deal about her looks. (Same for Minnie Driver.) She was in a drama years ago (two people's names in the title is all I remember) and has a fight with her boyfriend where she over-acts the line "I WANT you to SING my PRAISES!" Michelle Pfeiffer was the only thing I liked about that movie, though I've never been a fan of her voice. She looked amazing.
Danny Devito was gross in the movie, which was the point of his character, but I still found it unpleasant to watch.
I know Christopher Walken has tons of fans, but I think he plays every villain pretty much the same. And he went to the Andrew McCarthy School Of Blinking Infrequently.

As for lending credence to any of those things....it's a long list, D. Took me an hour to read it all the first time. In general, it's pretty accurate, though there is a little slant towards calling everyone bisexual - a few of those assertions are far fetched, but as you know, others are dead on.
Of course, the really great thing for celebrities is there are certain people (actually most) who would NEVER believe anything outlandish or negative about their beloved stars. Some little old blue hairs still think Liberace was straight ! There is something of a bulletproof quality to certain people's reputations. That is the power of image. You just kind of have to live here or NY and see a lot of this in the flesh to believe that people are capable of certain things.

This Halle Berry woman is extremely over rated, she is playing catwoman, right? I wish hollywood wasn't so obsessed with age- Michelle Pfeiffer should have just been catwoman again. Now that is a movie I would see! If you ask me she is much more beautiful then Halle even though she may be a few years older. And don't even get me started on Halle's acting- Michelle is soooo much better! (I guess my love for Michelle is a no brainer if you notice my buddy icon)

I saw the Catwoman preview and Halle looks pretty amazing.
But she sucked in X-Men. She is no Storm.

I remember back around 98 or 99 Keaton was being interviewed by Carson Daly on MTV. I believe they were discussing what was GOING to be a new Superman movie by Tim Burton. Daly asked Keaton "Is it true you're going to be playing Batman in the new Superman movie?" And Keaton replied, "Is it true I'm going to be playing Batman in the new Superman? Well...technically yes and no." From what I was reading at the time, "Bruce Wayne" was supposed to make a cameo, thus the reason for Michael Keaton being in the picture. I think that would've been great. Again...I can see a possibility of Keaton's triumphant return to the Batman role. They need to adapt Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns" that he wrote back in 1986. It is without a doubt, the best Batman story ever written. And not for the faint of heart...!
