Just recieved this info from a friend... has anyone heard anything about this? Fleetwood Mac playing a casino opening sounds ridiculous, but I checked out the links and it appears to be legit?!

I would think that's a real shame, I mean no one has ever suggested the Mac don't like making money, but Damn, opening a Casino????

How low can FM go? :( Santa Ynez is not even a major city so I really don't know how many people would be willing to pay so much money for tickets especially when FM have just played Southern California.

I am sure Fleetwood Mac is getting a huge upfront GT to play this gig.
With that said, I think there is a little bit of missing the reality of the situation going on here.
How many times has Fleetwood Mac played the MGM is Las Vegas? It is a casino.
Casinos in Connecticut and Mississippi have had such major acts as Buffett, Aerosmith, Carole King, Shania, The Eagles all play them. The fact is in the US concert market Casino venues are becoming a player.
This seems a little different because it is part of an opening, making it a little more of a corporate gig, but on the other hand so was the MTV thing in New York this spring. Samething with some of Stevie;s corporate gigs for Microsoft and others...It is part of the business.

about FM having played at Casino's before & this show being a corporate performance type of thing, But knowing how most Indian owned casino's (Especially those here in Oklahoma) do not generate large amounts of money I would find it shocking if the Chumash Tribe offered a large GT to FM...Maybe they made a deal where FM could take a large percentage of the gate for the show? (Most shows here at casino's have a ticket price under $30)
Usually the type of musical artists who play the Indian casino's around this area are either those who are up and coming (ie-Trace Adkins, Kelley Coffee) or those whose careers are a shadow of their former selves (ie-David Lee Roth) because they are more economical to book for performances/appearances than those considered as "major acts".

That's what I thought too. But from what I understand the venue only holds 1,300 people.
With that said, I think there is a little bit of missing the reality of the situation going on here.

True. But the MGM Grand is a big-name fancy joint in Las Vegas with a massive arena that is the size of a typical concert venue. I had never even heard of Santa Ynez (and I live in southern California), nor any hype about the opening of this place. I'm picturing a small obscure casino, which is why I found it hard to believe at first.

Front row tickets are $500. WTF?Seems excessive, doesn't it?
Maybe that's the casino's way of keeping out the fanbase riffraff. The casino probably wants to reward its high rollers with front-row seats to a major concert, so maybe it's hoping that the extra-high ticket prices keep fans of the band away. A casino can easily fill a 1,200-seat theater with casino visitors on a weekend.

Casinos usually comp most of the great tickets for their high rollers.

and when they have played Vegas and Atlantic City for the last 25 years what do you think they are doing? MGM, Trump, the Alladin, or wherever does not give that money to charity - it goes to the casino
BTW - what does George W. Bush have to do with casinos? Certainly people from all political backgrounds gamble

OK I just bought myself a 95.00 ticket for the Saturday night show. They must be comp tickets because all of the first 4 price levels were sold out. I got the first row Y of the level 5 tickets.
Hey at least I am going. I don't know if I can go to the Sunday show yet because I don't know if I can get Monday off to fly home. I am also flat broke and need to start saving again.

UHHHH, That makes no sense.....Why would Fleetwood Mac play two shows for less than 3000 people combined for a large piece of the gate???
They got a big up front. It amounts to a corporate gig.
I think it is kind of cheesy too, believe me. But Rock 'n' Roll and big money go hand and hand. It is part of the deal these days and really for the past 20 years.

because it seems puzzling otherwise unless they did receive a large GT (Unless like Johnny Stew said "They're doing this as a favor to an investor)...But knowing how Indian casinos here do their business a large GT would seem rather odd.

Yeah, except ours are making BANK! :]
just messin with you. I'm native american and i would rather not have had the decimated poverty stricken populations turn to Casinos, and it's actually a very political subject within tribes, but....
And so I think the big deal everyone is making about FM opening a Casino, especially one that's right by FM's hometown...Well, I just don't think it's that bad. I'm sure their getting just as much money as they always do, and maybe they think they're supporting something good (although i really wouldn't know, just postulating)

I am a Cherokee (Along with Irish/German) and have seen many smaller tribes around here turn to Casinos, To only have so much BS appear afterwards from those in surrounding areas and those within their own tribes...But the smartly ran Indian Casinos ones are the ones laughing on their way to the bank (ie-The Chickasaw tribes' Winstar Casino, Located right across the Red River on the intelligent, Uh Oklahoma side of I-35)

Yeah...but i just always wish that they could be who they always were. now they're just resource consuming capitalists like the rest of the country. But i'm a tree hugger for sure, and was raised with Native religion, and my mom majored in environmental science, so it's hard for me not to feel sorrow, even though i don't wish poverty and pain on anyone, of course..

The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma is the second largest tribe in the US (Over 100,000 members only ranking behind the Navajo tribe) and has been self sufficient for years without reliance upon gambling thanks in part to great leaders such as Chief Wilma Mankiller.

Sounds like a corporate to me... It's entirely possible it is an agreement with the tour promoters to do this, after all they did agree to extend the dates last year to help the promoters make back the revenue from lost ticket sales.
Either that or Stevie and John have a new habit

Fleetwood Mac will be playing two nights, July 17 & 18, at the Chumash
Casino Resort in Santa Ynez near Santa Barbara. This room has a
capacity of only 1,300. For each of the shows we have held fifty (50) seats
per night, 100 in total, for the fan club which are going on sale on
Wednesday June 30th at 9am PT (limit two tickets per fan club member).
The tickets are $145.00 and are non-refundable. They are not in the
first few rows but every seat in the house is great.

Yeah, it sucks the front is for the richie-rich's, but that makes it seem like it is indeed some kind of corporate thing (which they/Stevie have certainly done before) and the suggestion that maybe one of them knows someone with the casino (I think Mick most likely) is a good possibility, IMO.

I think the whole point of the gig is to bring attention to the casino that a regular joe blow band wouldn't and couldn't do.... Hence the reason for booking a huge band like Fleetwood Mac. Any amount paid to the band by the casino... even if it's a lose to the casino still would benefit the place.... because of the national attention it would receive. Would you have heard or been interested in the place otherwise??? No!
So corporate gig?... Don't think so. Strategic move by the casino? Think so!
