View Full Version : Don't you hate waiting...

for medical results to come back? I am kinda worried about the results of the biopsies that were done today (The left side of my chest is very sore, That's the worse pain I felt today)...
The endoscopy was the easy part though, No frikkin' "garden hose" sized tube like I have heard others mention (The width was more the size of a pencil).
Once I was given the anesthetic it was "night-night" for this boy, Didn't remember a thing until I awoke in "Recovery"...And my throat is not that sore, Just a tad bit dry.
"The waiting...is the hardest part"...

What's up? A biopsy? WOW. I really hope you are ok! It does suck waiting but keeping yourself busy is the only thing.
I never had to wait for anything like that, since I avoid DR's at all costs but I can imagine how horrible it is!
I hope you are ok and please let us know.

avoid the DR at all cost too, But after Debbie's bout with cancer I have taken a different approach.
I have had problems with my esophagus/stomach for the past few years that have progressively gotten worse, So Debbie decided to make me a DR. appt.
First, I had an Upper GI done which showed something has narrowed my esophagus (Possibly scar tissue...Or something worse) so then a CT scan was performed to further investigate
The results from the CT Scan lead to my short "surgery" today (Esophageal endoscopy to dilate my esophagus and then a biopsy was taken of the tissue around the area of concern.)
So I am very concerned to get the results back as soon as humanly possible.

ps-Kinda funny, But I had my nerves calmed by a nice African American clerk at the hospital who admitted me. She kept staring at my shirt (The 2003 SYW white tour shirt with the "Rumours" cover shot of Stevie & Mick) and finally she asked "Is that Stevie Nicks & Mick Fleetwood?" I confirmed it indeed was...To which she replied "I love Fleetwood Mac and my Mother LOVES Stevie Nicks...They were the first act I saw in concert when my parents attended their show years back." So we talked about the mighty Mac & Stevie too which calmed my nerves as I waited to have my procedure...I seem to meet Mac/Stevie fans in the least places I expect.

The waiting sucks!!!!!! I feel for ya. But, if it helps, the way I deal with it is I know worrying is not going to change the results and is only bad on me in the way of stress. So, I try and busy myself with anything possible. In fact, I have been known to clean my entire house, wash the cars, and then the dogs all in one morning in a HUGE attempt not to think about it LOL. Hang in there - I am sure you are fine!!!!

As someone who has had to wait for test results for their child this advice is great! I would also add stay the heck away from any and all medical internet web sites.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you receive good news ASAP.

for the advice.
I am going to keep busy with my usual stuff (ie-Work & the ever popular cd trading) so I don't worry too much (I worried alot when Debbie was first diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, So much that I grew alot of grey hair, Which I wear as my badge of honor)

So sorry to hear about your situation, Brian. You will be in my thoughts . . . I have been dealing with a similar situation with my mom who was diagnosed with breast cancer about two months ago, and the waiting really does stress you out. Just try to remember that the test result is going to be what it is going to be, and that no amount of worry or stress can change it. Good luck!

You're in my thoughts, Bri. Yes, waiting for results is terrible. About a year ago I had a scan done on my abdomen because I was having a lot of problems. Thankfully, everything came back normal. However, it's incredibly scary and I had to hound them for results. It's the pits...

Yeah, the waiting does suck. Hope for the best and try not to think of the worst, because that's what will kill ya, Brian. Be glad that you had this done yesterday and not a year down the road!
You're in all of our thoughts and we all wish you the best.

Be glad that you had this done yesterday and not a year down the road!
I was supposed to have had it done last Friday, But Deb had chemo scheduled that afternoon (If she missed her appt. that would mean throwing away the medicines which run about $4000 for each visit, So we opted to save the $$$$) and I would need someone to drive me home afterwards since I would be in a drug induced stupor (I don't really remember much of yesterday afternoon from the time I was in the operating room onwards.)
I feel alright this morning, But decided to stay at home just to rest.

That is very nice. I have never seen a chocolate fan at a show, then one day i was wearing my Rumours shirt on BART(bay area rapid transit) and was all puspy, and this chocolate, kinda hard looking sister was staring and staring at me, and finally she goes "who's that lady on your shirt?" and I say "Stevie Nicks" and she goes "I thought so! It's hard for me to see from here. I love her!!!" I felt better then.
I'm thinking blessings for you, that all will be well, and affordable, and that you will be happy. Try not to worry, as it does no good...send good thoughts to your insides and perhaps the energy will make them happy. :)

and I'm dying...
of absolute boredom because I am very healthy other than severe scarring on my esophagus, And no cancer to be found!
I still do not remember anything in the recovery room after the endoscopy/biopsy last Tuesday even though Deb & my Dr. said I was conscious and alert (I read the anesthesic used caused amnesia but s--t, I didn't know it caused me to have a large several hour gap of memory...First thing that crossed my mind, Alzheimer's!!!)

You bastard, I actually gasped until I scrolled down! That's wonderful news, glad to hear it! :blob1:
Anyway, the drug you had was probably Versed - good stuff! When I was in nursing school they kept telling me about how patients can't remember a thing after invasive procedures if they give them Versed, but I was skeptical...until I watched this old guy get a colonoscopy & have no memory of having a long tube stuck up his ass

Versed knocked me out big-time...It was "night-night" after that med was into my system.
Speaking of colonoscopy, I was readin' my usual "conspiracy" mumbo-jumbo on the OKC bombing when in came across the following:
"Pres Bush is to have a colonoscopy today, But if you ask me they should leave him conscious and unsedated so he will know what it feels like to have the Patriot Act shoved into ones ass...I think pictures should be taken and posted"

Got home today from Deb's Pet Scan (She has a spot in her chest which is either the remnants of the original tumor or just inflamation from where she had to be reopened last January due to the infection in her blood stream...Nothing to worry about either way, She's doing fine.) and found my blank DVD's have arrived, Now I have to wait til early next week for my Panasonic DVD burner to arrive then I will be all set.

That is great news. I went through something like that about 6 weeks ago with chest pains, I thought I was having heart problems. Several vials of blood and two differents types of tests later and it was nothing serious with my esophogus and something that couldn't be handled with a little pill. But I will tell you, I hated the wait so I know how that feels.
I am glad you and ok and doing well. My best to you.

about those chest pains myself (Terri, I am glad you are doing alright and it was nothing major.)
My Mother's side of the family has a lengthy history of deaths due to heart disease (Both Great-Grandparents and Both Grandparents have passed due to heart ailments) and just finding out my Mother now has a heart disease (Atrial fibrillation) has made me even more conscious of my own health.
The Dr. who performed my endoscopy/biopsy & dialation (aka Expanding the narrowness of the esophagus by dialating the scar tissue) of the esophagus said what helped me the most is being a non-smoker, non-drinker & being in relatively good overall health (ie-Non major history of disease).
The same was said of Deb when she was first diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, A former smoker who (Except for being a diabetic & having high blood pressure) was in otherwise great health for her age (40...Though she looks more like 30 now).

So happy that the health news for you was good !
I, in fact, hate waiting so much, that I came up with a word for what I feel when waiting : WAITRED. Probably been used before, but I had never heard it, and it is gaining popularity with all of my crazy little circle of friends.
"I was at Costco today, in a mile long line, seething with waitred."
