I know that Deanna got a new job (Hooray  ). What else is going on in peoples' lives these days?

For me:
- The students are done and away. My work isn't yet done, so I still go in these days. I'll also be tutoring a bit - not as much as I should, considering the rate is pretty good and money is going to bills everywhere this summer. But my school year starts again two months from yesterday.
- My home desktop died the other night. Friday I bought a new one at Best Buy and returned it before leaving the store. I got fed up with the poor service this particular location has. Late today I went to a much cheaper place near the airport & bought the HP desktop that I'm on now. My first new computer since 1998, unless you count the work ones. (I go through those pretty quickly. :o )
- My mom has a "mild" case of shingles on her shoulder and recently fell in the driveway, breaking her wrist. Of course, she waited a week to go to the doctor's referral to find out that needed a cast. She swears she's okay for the most part. It's always a story with my family, know the feeling?
- I'll probably be in Philly in late July. Vancouver is postponed indefinitely.
- My hair is longer than it has been in seven years. Doesn't say much considering I used to look like I was in the military.

So, what's up with you?

I'm having computer issues, too. I have two computers - the one I'm using now (it has a smaller harddrive but more memory), and one that we got from the computer guy at mom's work (two harddrives, not so much memory).

A few weeks ago I realized that whenever I accidentally push my chair in too hard/run into the chair and it knocks against the desk/whatever and it's juuuust hard enough, the computer likes to freeze up. (In case you're wondering how a computer chair can do that, I don't have a computer chair. I stole a wooden chair from the kitchen table and brought it down here until I can get a real computer chair).

So last night, I'm trying to get the USB cable for my digital camera out from behind my desk (it was stuck between the wall & the top part - my desk is basically a wooden countertop on top of two sets of drawers [sp?]), so I had to pull out the countertop part. I get it out and I'm pushing it back and it's not moving, so I put a liiiittle more force into it. And of course, it moves back and I'm like "I wonder if that made it freeze up."

And it did.

So I restart, and it starts messing around with me. Like it'll boot up, but not all the way or it'll boot up & freeze again or it'll just not boot up at all. Which is what it's doing right now. I'm convinced I can "fix" it, since I've fixed it every other time this has happened (I have no idea how I fix it. I just unplug cables inside it and plug them in again, and it works. Go figure). But if I can't, I'm going to have mom take it to her place of work to have the guy who built it mess with it.

Computers hate me. -_-

I know the feeling.
My old computer is sitting by my door waiting for me to take a hammer to it. And I'm just petty enough to hold it up to this screen so it can see I've typed this. ;)
Good luck with yours.

I got engaged last week!
My boyfriend told me we were going to a party on the beach (Lake Erie), but just as we pulled up to the lake a big storm blew in. He had set up two chairs, a little table, an ice bucket, champagne, strawberries, and a violinist. It was so windy I could barely walk. To make a long story short, he did propose and all of his belongings blew into the lake.

Absolutely nothing is new in my life. I'm still paying on 2 houses, I'm still fixing up the old one to sell, my new one still needs the grass mowed, and tomorrows laundry day.

I'm so predictable....

However, I almost bought a '69 Camero today, but my conscience got the better of me, and I've decided to wait until I have that old house sold. :distress: Damn... I can't wait until it sells.....

I tend to want life as simplistic as possible, But it always ends up at the extreme opposite end of the spectrum.

Congrats laurarox!!!

I'm moving into a new apartment in the suburbs, close to my job, on July 1, by myself- the first time I will live on my own. Since moving out for college, I've always lived with other people- dorm roommates, boyfriend- so it'll be really nice. I'm very excited about it. I'll be SO close to work, too- I live in Chicago. I've been living in the city and working out in the suburbs (Schaumburg area) and doing that commute every day, and it's been HORRIBLE. It's 18 miles, and on a GREAT day takes me an hour and fifteen minutes to get home. I just can't handle it anymore.

I also have gallstones! Spent a night in the ER this week doubled over in excruciating pain to learn that.

Other than the one I already posted about (the job)

I just connected with my best friend from high school who also happens to be in DC....it was through Friendster, my friend insisted I sign up to increase his network...and then I found my friend from high school!! We hung out last week, and hope to again, it's really cool...we'd lost touch for a couple of years...

Also, I just realized I HATE having roomates...I'm living in a dorm room for the summer (it's free) and my roomate is a nice girl, but I hate living with people...

That's it...

Congrats on the engagement laurarox!!!

And Maria, my sister and her husband are in a similar situation with paying on two houses....it's a pain, so I wish you the best with that!!

I used to live in Chicago for part of 1991 and later 1992-April 1996. The worst parts were the weather and the commute, and I wasn't working in the sububs. Even going from north to south was a hassle.

Do they have plans to do something to your gallstones?

I'm not familiar with Friendster (And YES, Marissa, I have friends :p ). Can you explain how it works?

I decided as a child I would not want roommates. I love living on my own, but near other people. I'd hate to live as a hermit in the middle of nowhere. I am not a cliffdweller.

I definately need to maintain it clean, I was exausted by the time I finished cleaning it, you can't imagine all the junk I had  . I don't have many plans, I'll have some family over for part of the summer so I can't really travel. I'll just paint (I actually bought one of thosepaiting kits) and try to relax from the school year. :)

See, I think living near no one would be ideal for me. I'm such a tyrant when it comes to home time. I need peace and I REALLY need quiet...and I've never had neighbors who respected that....actually my neighbors this summer are not loud at all..which is great, but it's a dorm, so I'm constatnly hearing elevators and people coming and going...and my room is right across from the bathroom so I hear that door all the time....

Anyway, Friendster. I'm still pretty new so I really don't know exactly how it works. You just creat a profile, and then add friends and then it tells you how many first second and third degree friends you have...because when you add a friend their friends become your second degree friends and so on...and I don't think I'm making any sense.....maybe someone with more experience on it can explain it better...I just signed up last week...

Don't get me wrong, I hate noise from other people. I just don't want to be in the middle of the woods, completely removed from any other signs of human activity all the time. I prefer just to close the blinds and unplug the phone on some days, you know?

The Friendster thing makes sense. Let me know how you end up liking it.

I had gallstones, and it's horrible. Have laperoscopic surgery and get those suckers out. They don't pass like kidney stones. As soon as they're out you'll have no more pain, aside from healing from the surgery.

Congratulations, Laurarox!

Nothing new is going on with me. We have a lot of plans over the summer -- Florida for a reunion, Ocean City NJ for vacation, Hersheypark for a day. I will only be working three days a week for the summer to save on child care, and also to spend more time with my daughter. Which I guess does bring up something new. She graduates Pre-K on Friday. They have a whole little ceremoney planned. The class will sing "The Power of the Dream" by Celine Dion, do some poems, and each student will get up and say their FULL name and what they want to be when they grow up. Rachel had a hard time with her name. She kept saying first, last, middle, and the teacher didn't correct her because her middle name is Chinese and thought it was supposed to be last. But she has it down now. Oh, yeah. She wants to be a pediatrician. Pretty cool. One boy wants to work for the CIA and another wants to be a paleontologist/archeologist. They're 5 for crying out loud! Pretty much the rest want to be firemen and such.

So that's pretty much what's new!

Years ago a dated a nursing student. Supposedly her instructor told the class to practice shaving (as in patients), so she asked me if she could...
Let's just say I'd have to trust someone VERY much to let her hold a razor that close to my Tusk-al region. It did not happen.

- Jake

Hmm... that is quite the "come on" line, Jake. I'll have to remember that in the future. I guess it beats "your place or mine?"

I don't think so. Stick to asking for zodiac signs.

Oh, you know you said alright because you were dying to let the Metrosexual in you out. I know people with wooden sticks and hot wax. They could have helped you out with that

I'm sorry, Metrosexual? Is that someone who's attracted to subway trains?

And just so I understand your (for lack of a better term) thought process, what would one use the sticks for?

That's so painful on the eyebrows, I can't imagine doing it anywhere else. :shudders:

I have to say, painful as it is, I like to have my eyebrows waxed...it makes the area smooth as a baby's bottom!
Oh, the sticks are like popsickle sticks used to apply the wax.

See, eyebrows don't bother me at all. I'm really anal about my eyebrows though so I get them done every other week.

I had a phone call about 2 weeks ago. It was a woman calling for her son and he wanted to have his....yep...waxed. First off i'm thinking, who in the hell makes an appointment like this for their son? So I put her on hold, talk to the people I work with, we all sit and crack shaft-waxing jokes, and then I get back on the phone and tell her that I can take down her name and number and call back and see if one of the esteticians would do it but it's not something we do here (although some people have had it done). Around Valentines Day, if you go in for a bikini wax with her, you're coming back out with a heart on you

The stories I hear....

Positive ;) That would've just made it freeze up again and I'd be in the same place I started out in. I just did my usual uplug/re-plug routine.

Stupid computer. But I love this thing. <3333

Well in less then a week I graduate from college, I'm staring to get nervous b/c I'm speaking, but first I must get through exams... After that I'm going home to relax for a bit. Oh just saw the Madonna Concert, it was awesome, I don't think I sat once, lots of fun, and whoever does her sound is excellent, she sounded like her records (no she wasn't lip syncing). Well thats about it:)

Well Jake, that is the million dollar question isn't it. Actually I'm moving back in with my mom and dad, for a few months, should prove interesting :o Then I'm going to look for a job come September, hoping to stay in CA, but if not, well I really have no idea where I'll be six months from now, kinda scary but exciting.

You just never know where you'll end up. I graduated and moved back to Philly for almost a year, then moved to Chicago, then Austin, and now Houston, and I KNOW this is not where I'll put down roots. Good luck.

Well, I'm taking my final exams for the year this week. Four more to go! And yay for school ending in six days! Other than that, my grandfather is having more strokes ( :( ) and isn't the healthiest. What else?...I need a haircut, it's wicked humid outside, and I am currently enjoying the Buckingham Nicks live version of Sorcerer. That's all for now I guess!

how cool to realize the israeli army's up to some good deeds too; i just got a letter today announcing i should head there at the end of this month to be released from their reserved forces!
it's not like they were bugging me too much, in fact, in the last 9 years they only called me for 3 stupid lectures, but potentially they can screw me for 2 months each year till i'm 50, so being discharged from this crap at 31, and without any hassle is a big relief. maybe at last they came to recognize my endless motvation and extreme desire to be on their service.
so long IDF, i promise i'll never miss you. :woohoo:

I feel okay today, but a couple of irritating things have happened that I feel rantish about. Thank you for indulging me in advance.
First of all, I haven't bought a pack of cigarettes for 2 days, but i bought one today at lunch, so i've let myself down a bit there. I said I'd quite before (or on) my 30th birthday, which is in six days. NOT MUCH TIME LEFT. I'M GONNA HAVE TO GET IT TOGETHER!!! And as a sidebar to that, this will make me want to get a beer when i get off work, cause now i have cigs to go with my beer, and i'm trying to lose a coupla before my bikini unveiling July 4th weekend, and beer doesn't help to lose weight. Anyway.
So I was walking back from the cigarette store to my work, and this older chocolate gentleman with a cane says: "It's too bad you don't deal with black men, cause you look like you got a little sistah in you" WTF!!!!!
So I said "It's too bad you think you know me and can talk to me like that" and still walking. So then he says...wait for it...."HEY, THERE'S NO REASON TO GET SMART WITH ME, blah,blah..." yelling at me all down the street. OK, someone i don't know randomly accosts me on the street and insults me by telling me who i do and do not date and then tells me NOT TO GET SMART WITH HIM!!???? I love Oakland, I love Oakland, I love Oakland, I love Oakland....
ok, at least our murder rate is lower than San Francisco's so far this year....
That's it, thanks everyone. Visit my beautiful city anytime!!!
