I went to see Chaka Khan, one of my favorite singers, last night in
Amsterdam. Last time I saw her was in 1987 when she apparently still
was
suffering from alcohol and/or drug abuse. Needless to say, I wasn't too
impressed by her performance at the time, no interaction with the
audience
and she was just going through the motions.

Not so last night, it was one of the best concerts I have ever been to:
Chaka was back with a vengeance. She was in a great mood, joking with
the
audience all the time and her voice was in stellar form, she could hit
all
those high notes and way beyond! And I mean WAY! (she even smoked a
couple
of cigarettes in between songs, which proves smoking does not always
ruin
your voice!)

She has gained a lot of weight over the years, but seems comfortable
with
it, even wearing very tight jeans.

Needless to say, the Stevie parallels are evident ;-)

Anyway, much to my surprise one of the songs she performed was
"Everywhere"
which she recorded for her Epiphany album in 1996. That album version
is a
bit bland take of the FM song, but live it was a lot better. And since
it is
not one of her hits, she must really like it!

I'm trying to picture her doing Everywhere. It's so pop-ish, it's hard to translate it to R & B in my mind.
