...where we yesterday had the good and interesting discussion about criticism on the message board? Dissention, Johnny Stew and all the others- where are our posts?

:distress: Not agáin...

Now I'm curious what you were discussing.

It appears that it was deleted by the poster who started the thread, but there was no reason given as to why it was deleted. I thought it was an interesting discussion too.

Beats me, but I think it's unfair that it was deleted. It was a good discussion and allowed us to understand some of the posters a little better. Deleted threads are something I would expect on Mick's board, unfortunately.

okay, so who started (and deleted) that thread? may the coward stand up and face the heat please.

Well, that sounds like an appealing invitation! Don't forget: a threadstarter has the right to delete his/her own thread.

you're right gerald, but still it doesn't make it fair, respectable or decent towards those who stated their legit opinions after him/her.

Basically it was just about how this board has a more cynical and negative slant than the other FM boards. And it is true in a way.

Marty, during the thread I stated a lot of positive impressions concerning THE LEDGE. It`s not only a very good information source but especially a board full of vivid and controversial discussion. Not just the boring praise and brainwash stuff but a lot of info, irony, criticism and wit too. That's what makes this place interesting to me.
I see that the current rule of the board allow the thread starter to delete the entire thread and respect that one probably shouldn`t change rules in retrospect. However I`d like to suggest to change these rules in that way, that from now on anyone still is entitled to delete his own posts but no more entire threads (and by this posts of other users) Censorship should stay on the other board and not get over here imho. Thanks, Stefan :wavey:

Well, here is what I think about all this: THE REMAINDER OF THIS POST HAS BEEN DELETED. NO FURTHER INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE ABOUT THIS POST.

I agree and since most of the posts in the thread had gone to an entirely different place than the original topic I think deleting it was a bit hasty. From what I've understood the thread starter can also ask a moderator to lock a thread so no more posts could be added to it. That one I can accept; deleting an entire thread is another thing. No one here should have the rights to touch other people's posts except for the moderators of course.

There is an inherent contradiction in what you say here. How is asking to lock a thread not "touching" other people's posts? You are touching them by preventing them from happening. If you ask me, which-you-didn't-but-you-really-were-wondering-and-you-know-it, that is more offensive than erasing what was already said. At least you got a chance to say it even if it was erased. Never having the chance to say it is far worse.

This is why the First Amendment (which doesn't apply to this case, by the way, but I will use it as an illustration) works the way it does. You can say whatever you want. The governmnet cannot prevent you from saying it. But if you say it, and it is deemed "unprotected speech," you can be punished for it. Make sense to me.

I didn't read this other thread but I love this board and theres really not that much negative effect. This board has an excellent balance of people which i can connect with and be truthful at the same time. The burnish board in my opinion is the worst. I mean no offense to anyone who goes there and likes it but i just dont like sitting around and talking about lindseys pants on the mirage video.

Anyway I just wanted to say, I LOVE THIS BOARD! :wavey:

The fact of the matter is this: to delete an entire thread that contains the posts of others is just unfair. If someone wants to delete, their posts, fine. But don't touch anyone elses. No one really has the right to shut down someones work or input. After all, we all know what happened after Bremer shut down the Iraqi newspaper. ;)

I thought it was a rather constructive FM board really. If you want cynical and negative try BN.net, some of the threads overflow with cynical and controversial comments there.. (Sorry Nancy! Just my opinion)

I do not know why the original poster deleted the thread-- perhaps because it veered greatly off course from the original discussion which was about the PBS special. In any case, I found an option in the Ledge's control panel which was permitting the first poster to delete an entire thread. It is now turned 'off' (except for Moderators). If you are the first poster and you want to delete your individual message, just edit it and remove all of its content. Hopefully in the future then, a situation like this will not happen again.

Been there (but not quite done with it yet) and I refrain from further commenting on which FM board is the most cynical. Then again a significant number of people on that board feel they were originally driven away from the Ledge. I don't know the details but I know there's still a certain amount of bad blood in between the members of the two boards.

What the heck: every FM board has its pros and cons, it's due to the individual to find the grain and throw out the chaff. And I still like it here a bit better than elsewhere so... :)

I take full responsibility for my part in causing that thread to veer off course, and I apologize to the author of the thread... although I think the points of view being discussed, albeit off-topic of the thread, were worthy of being seen.

I think both "sides" of the argument, as well as those inbetween, maintained the right amount of respect and civility for a good (dare I say healthy?) dialogue.

I think what needs to be understood is that threads take on a life of their own once they're started. If one veers off the path, that is where it was MEANT to go...if somebody would post something related to the original idea of the thread, it would fall back on the main path. Simple as that.

As with all the FM boards there are some really good threads at BN, it's just there are some, let's just say dillusional and rather unhealthy posts directed towards a particular person. I'm not saying any more than that, not on this site..... End of discussion. I will say that Nancy has one hell of a great site there though...

Nicks was nearly always physically unstable. She lurched about the stage, twirled slowly with all the grace of a druken sailor and, near the concert's end, wobbled along the stage's part and starboard precipices while frantic roadies followed to prevent a fall.

Isn't that cool. It's the Rolling Stone review of Fleetwood's first night at Madison Square Garden in 1977, & it's on tape. Stevie sounds as if she had severe bronchitis that night -- it's pretty painful to hear Rhiannon & others. Interesting, too, that the RS review says she had "righted herself" the following night's show at the Garden, & the tape of that show in circulation reveals a Stevie in far better vocal state. The band really rips on both nights -- two super-great shows.
