What a nice, bittersweet sounding tune. I've had Street Angel for about 5 years now and I never listened to that song. It's a little cheesy with the sax, but the words are sad. I dig it. Makes me wanna hug Stevie...=L

The version on Stevie's 'Enchanted' boxed-set doesn't feature Dave Koz's sax... you might enjoy that version even better. :)

I like "Destiny." I do prefer the Enchanted version because I'm not a big fan of the sax. I also like Stevie's live version of the song. I think her voice sounds pretty on it.

My absolute fav. of Destiny is the 1994 "live" HOB version. She sounds beautiful on it. Destiny is one of my fav. of her songs.

I love this song. There is and alternate take (I don't know when it's from) where the vocals build toward the end of the song. That's my favorite.

The verses (with the bass) are some of the most emotionally resonant parts to be found on a Stevie Nicks album. The chorus doesn't do much for me and it's not just because of the sax; it feels a tad anticlimatic after the intimacy of the verses.
Then again, maybe I like this so much because it's a 1973 song (as SaraRhiannon.com says). I'm also wondering about the "Enchanted" lyric quote: did Stevie write "Destiny" and "Enchanted at the same time or did she write "Destiny" first and then ten years later quoted it in "Enchanted" (without people knowing that she was quoting herself)?

I prefer Enchanted, I always thought Destiny seemed like a boring rehash of a great song.
To tell the truth I didn't realise the Enchanted and Street Angel versions were different, probably because I always skip it! But I shall give it another listen I will!

I think techinically, Enchanted (the song) is a rehash of Destiny, which was according to Stevie written before the former. In the Rolling Stone photo shoot (1981 ?), she exclaims that she just wrote Enchanted while in a limo in New York I think on her way to Long Island. Conversly, Destiny is credited with being written in 1973 or around that time. In any event, I like them both!!!!!

Just read the "Enchanted" quote from SaraRhiannon.com (hadn't earlier :o) and the press release to The Wild Heart says that she wrote it "last summer"; that would make it 1982. Doesn't "Destiny" have a 1983 copyright, btw? I guess she copyrighted it along with "Enchanted".

Lord I am gettin' old - The SA CD indeed says 1983!!!!!! I could have sworn she said it was from earlier than that - like the early 70's. My memory says it was in concert where she said it. But, I am probably just wrong
Bit - I know she is singing it t the Rolling Stone photo shoot which was the one that produced the "Queen of Rock" cover of RS photo. So, it was before that.

I am not losing it yet - at least in this instance!!!!!!!

The SA Press kit says Destiny is from the 70's . Go here to read http://www.fleetwoodmac-uk.com/articles/presskits/pk_streetangel.html - kudos to the site BTW!!!!!!

So, the SA liner notes I guess should read 1973.

Destiny is my favorite song on SA. I love the lyrics, vocals, sax, and harmonies. I hate the demo I have (it drags and sounds flat) and I despise the Enchanted version, with its repetitive piano notes and absence of harmonies at the end.
I remember on the SA Tour that when it came time for the harmonies (which were not as good as on the album), Stevie turned to the back-up singers and gestured that it was time.

I LOVE the WH outtake versions, much better than the album version. I love her voice on those and I like it longer (the outtakes are six minutes, I think). Not a fan of the sax and I don't like the background vocals on the album version. Good song, though.

On the tour, Stevie usually told an interesting story about this song. She said she wrote it at a time when she had fallen in love with someone back in the Bay Area & was considering leaving Lindsey in Los Angeles to go be with this guy.

No one can ever accuse her of being dishonest.

Thank You David!!!!!!

I knew I remembered her saying that. You know as I get older, my formerly perfect, almost photographic memory, has broken down. Now sometimes I remember things together that were not together, it sort of is supposed to some out looking like a human and instead I get "The Fly"

All this talk about the song has inspired me to break out the SA CD which ashamedly, I haven't listened to in quite awhile. (Gosh, maybe a year???) So I am playing it now and I forgot just how good it was!! This is going to stay in my CD changer for awhile so I can get reacquainted with it!

At the AHI benefit she did in '96, Stevie also told the story of "Destiny". She was a bit more subtle than on the SA tour and said the song was about "trying to decide between a blonde haired man in SF and doing this thing in LA...obviously I chose this thing"..(singing) She said something at first to Lori Nicks along the lines of "how can I say this in front of my parents?".....it was one of the cutest speaches I have heard her make. She is alway adorable when she stumbles on her words!

When I first heard SA I liked it more than TOSOTM, but its charm has faded a bit for me. My love for Destiny has not diminished, though. I like everything about it.
