View Full Version : Do you work with a bunch of assholes?

I do!

I was pulled in today by my supervisor to be told that one of my co-workers thinks I listen in on her phone conversations, and am constantly looking over her shoulder. (I have many, many more important things on my mind other then her phone conversations.) After hearing a few other complaints about me, I told my supervisor that I feel like they (co-workers) are out to get me. You know what my supervisor said to that? That since I am much younger then them, that's why I don't fit in, and, because I have a production background, that's why I'm different from them.

Does anyone else smell age discrimination?
Would YOU go to HR???

Ya know, I've talked to my confidant at work about this whole situation, and he seems to think exactly this.

There's nothing to be jealous about. :distress:

Oh well, f*ck 'em.

Yeah, I was always the young one in the office and the older women had it in for me. It was horrible sometimes. A job like that may not be worth keeping. Your happiness is the most important!

I work with assholes now. I work at Dominos Pizza as a manager and I just work with a bunch of men who don't know how to handle a woman who actually has feelings, emotions and drive. It's horrible.

UGH.

Oh, doll, I've worked with some of the biggest assholes known to mankind. I worked with someone who used to be a drug addict (four years clean) and she ripped me to shreds when she found an aspirin on the floor. She thought it was some kind of drug and accused me of doing them at work. Eventually, we had to be "mediated" by management, where I told her that if she hadn't drugged herself into a hazy stupor for years, she wouldn't be so anal over a lone aspirin on the floor of the workplace. Then I left to work somewhere else.

However, I must admit to being the coldest asshole you'll ever meet if things aren't going right at my job. ;)

My last boss was a be-otch from you-know-where. Ugh!! HUGE whippin' to work for her. I prefer male bosses, as they tend to be more laid back, of course, there are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule, huh?

I work from home too and stay in touch with my co-workers now mainly through e-mail and phone calls. It rocks! But in my day, trust me, I had my share of assholes & bitches to contend with. And yes, I'd rather work with men than women any day of the week! When I was younger, the older women hated me. When I got into my mid and late 30's (I'm 39 now)--the married women all hated me because I was single! I couldn't win for losing. Plus the fact that I worked in TV for over 10 years certainly didn't help matters either--let's just say that I'm convinced that more mentally distrubed people work in the television industry than anywhere else. They're all nuts! I will admit to being somewhat of a Type A personality myself. I'm hard-working, a bit of a perfectionist, and do not suffer fools gladly. It did not make for a happy work situation for me for many, many years. Like Joseph Campbell said though "Follow your bliss." When I was finally able to do that, the "magic" doors just opened up for me and four years later, here I sit, blissfully happy at long last. I joke that I left TV because I got tired of being a bitch in order to survive. And yes, at my last TV job, I also had an alcoholic, pill-popping co-worker. She actually kept a bottle in her desk drawer and used to take swigs at it when she thought no one was looking!

Usually, no a-holes at work. Luckily I get to hire my staff on jobs. But I have worked for a few prizewinning nutcases. One 3 time rehab dropout who screamed obscenities at my crew, made out with his bleached blonde implant addled assistant in front of everyone, and once changed into his gym clothes on the corner of a stage. Believe me, THAT wasn't pretty. Another nut just threw things, slammed doors, and called everyone names. Thankfully, those were short jobs.

To answer the topic question-no I don't work with assholes, I'm self employed. Now sometimes some of the people I deal with externally are assholes, so I either, a) contemplate if I can find a way to deal with these people that is beneficial to both of us or b) don't deal with them.
It doesn't sound like you are going to get a whole lot of support from the supervisor so I think you can do one of two things: Try to make friends with these women-maybe practice a few random acts of kindness for them. I don't know what your workplace is like, so I can't be more specific. It could be that they are just threatened by you and/or don't know you. Or if that doesn't work, then don't deal with them. However, if you're going to do that, be prepared for the repercussions. Hope this helps.:wavey:

When I was younger, the older women hated me.

This here pretty much sums it up.

You see, it's obviously known at work that I'm a widow. I think some, not all, people associate that status with having money. A few months ago, I let my supervisor know that I was going to Best Buy on lunch, and I may be a little longer then usual, which was no big deal. We can take long lunches if we wish, I just like to let it be known I'll be gone for a bit. I was going to buy the Fleetwood Mac remaster CD's. She, just being nosey, which really was no big deal to me, asked what I was buying. Me, knowing they think I'm slightly off with my FM obsession, told her she probably didn't want to know, just to avoid the hassle of hearing "don't you have enough of their stuff...." She blurted out, rather sarcastically, "Boy, I wish I had your money." I have never shared anything to her or anyone else what my late husband left me. That is NONE of their business. Anyhow, I've heard that comment more then once from her. I let it roll off my back. But really... c'mon, that is about the rudest thing a person could say to a widow.

Another example. We was talking about hair one day. My supervisor is damn near bald with real short hair. She's nothing to look at. I have long curly hair. She asked me when I was going to cut it. I told her I was too young for that, and I like it long. Then she asked me how often I had it permed. "Permed? This is all natural curl." She looked me dead in my eye and said, "I hate you..."

Gimme a break. I would much rather be back in production with a bunch of men, then in an office with a bunch of catty women.

Oh well.

Ugh. I know that feeling!

Thank God I now work for myself and have never been happier. At the firms that I have worked for, I always had male bosses and female paralegals. The men hate you because you might actually be smarter than them  and the women hate you because you are younger than them and are their boss. It was a f*cking nightmare. AND I have to add that I worked at a firm where in the whole 120 year history of the firm, they have only hired five women (and all have left or been fired). And believe it or not, that group of men were more catty and gossipy than any bunch of women that I have ever met!

That place is a walking sexual harrassment lawsuit waiting to happen . . .

Thank God for good therapists! :D

Had to deal with (sexual) harassment on my last job, that was nót fun. The guy still hates me because I was the first woman there to actually go to the boss etc... and a female colleague thought I was overreacting. Thanks for your support... She had gone through the same thing with him, but her way of dealing with that was to act as if nothing happened!

Do I work with a$$holes?
Yes, I do. I never should have taken this bleaching job...err, teaching job. ;)

Actually, my workplace is mixed. Anybody who has worked in a school will tell you that a book can be written about any given day. Some of my co-workers are bad, some are good. I went out with several last night and will be seeing others tonight. I get along with everyone but there are a few who just shouldn't be where they are, and seven people were let go for next year, most of whom should not have been. Yesterday was commencement. In private TPTB asked the Dean of Students, who is being let go by assholes after thirteen years of service and a good performance, if they could publicly present him with an award in recognition of his years of service. He replied "You have the balls to fire me and then give me an award? Are you out of your f***in' mind? Sure, go ahead."
Of course, most of the a$$holes are the parents, though most of the parents are not a$$holes. Every year you deal with nut cases, and in this case, rich nut cases.
If I could find the money and have the same level of authority elsewhere, I'd probably be there. But as schools go, this isn't bad.

I have to say tho, that I've found that more WOMEN talk filthy and dirty on the job than men. That may not be the case everywhere, I realize, but in all my jobs, it was the women I worked with who told the dirty jokes, stories, etc. I was kinda shocked, really.
