There's a VERY early version of Rhiannon, wouldn't want anyone to miss!

(and this info was all originally posted on the Legacy!)
Edit: I just converted them to mp3s, it probably won't take long before Neil puts those on his site. Meanwhile, you can also find them here:

Thanks to Neil, Mari, and everyone involved in getting these songs online!!!
"Rhiannon, which is a WELCH (LMAO!!!!) female name..."
"and don't play it too fast." - BWAH!! This version is very uptempo! It's like a freight train chug-a-luggin' through.
Races Are Run is awesome!!!! Her voice is very strong and the harmonies are nice. Lindsey's girly voice during the intro is CUTE!!
Lola is really fun!! His vocal is WAY cute!!

SHEEBUS - this must the "Paint it Black" version of Rhiannon a Fritz member (Javier ?) referred to in his Q&A. It is interesting without the "Dreams unwind" exorcism ending. But, let me tell ya, LB was just born to jam on the guitar!!!!!!!!!!!! And, Stevie's voice - sighs!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah it sounds like "set the key" to me. Do we know when in '74 this was recorded? And where? (We know it's not LA: "We're all the way from LA, CA..")
EDIT: Ok, it's Alabama. :) "thank-yoo"! :D
I wonder if there's any more BN Live out there? I'd love to hear some more... Stevie is fantastic on these tracks!! I'm guessing this is one of the very first performances of Rhiannon?? (it's got different lyrics too... "..master"...)

Okay, what's going on here? I've been a fan for over 17 years, and I know there are a lot of folks who've been fans even longer, and there have been only three "tours" in which I've really wanted bootlegs, to which I was always told just did not exist. These were the Christine-Danny-Jeremy band, the Christine-Danny-Bob band, and Buckingham Nicks. Now, in the last year, live recordings have surfaced :D
So, my big question is why now? Where have these recordings been for the last 30+ years, and why are they now just seeing the light of day?

OMG I"m in such shock. this is like the gem of gems for us mac fans. It really is. It doesn't get any better. I'm amazed by the qualitym and forget the quality, the performances. We have RACES ARE RUN LVIE :blob2: And rhiannon before Fleetwood Mac ever existed for Stevie and Lindsey's careers. I must say although I miss the ending I don't because the way the first part is just blows all future Rhiannons out ofd the water and I can't believe I just said that.

My thoughts exactly. And I kind of figured maybe someday a BN era show would pop up, but after 30 years I was expecting 3rd generation tape with deformed sounding staticy songs with some drunk yelling over the band to the point where you can't tell what the band is playing. And you know what if that was what poped up today I'm sure we'd all still be THRILLED to be getting it in ANY form, it's just such an added blessing that this sounds better then even any of the shows recorded in the freaking new millenium.

Stick around, Steve. There's a LOT surfacing in recent years & things will keep surfacing. We're all going to benefit. And never say never. It's been a shockeroo lately.
Oddly enough, very little of this has had (or will have) anything to do with the record companies! Once again -- as has been proven countless times -- the fans bring home the bacon, while the Warner Brothers execs stand around dumbly, wondering how the hell it all happens.
Those of you going to see Fleetwood in the next few weeks, put this on your T-shirts:

And Pacheco said the same thing about Fritz. I betcha we'll get some live professional Fritz before too long -- unless someone's hanging on to it in order to cut a deal with a record label. That's the kiss of death for this stuff, dealing with labels. It needs to be done independently, or leaked to the Internet.

Jan Susina wrote an article called "Buckingham Nicks: Goodbye to the First Eight Years" for a paper in Birmingham (Birmingham After Dark). It was published in February 1975. It says it was written a week after the last Buckingham Nicks concert in Birmingham -- I guess in January or February 1975. It couldn't have been any earlier than January because Stevie & Lindsey had already joined Fleetwood Mac when they gave the interview & played the shows. The article says they're about to begin "later this month" with Fleetwood Mac. Stevie is quoted: "They're hoping that I'll be able to bring Christine out more because she's very shy & very overshadowed. She doesn't write a lot, but she writes a few really good songs." Later, Stevie says, "The Buckingham Nicks thing -- me & Lindsey -- have been together eight years with the people we're playing with, Tom & Hoppy. As soon as Buckingham Nicks go back together, they'll come too."
Tom says about Lindsey & Stevie, "I consider myself one of their biggest fans. I don't see any reason why they can't be hot everywhere. There are other people we can play with & enjoy, but it's not the same. So they'll go out there & do their best, & when it's over we'll be here."
Seems as if Lindsey & Stevie planned -- or at least told the press so -- to return to Buckingham Nicks after the Fleetwood Mac 1975 album & tour.

Hi Gerald,
I believe Lindsey actually knew the Curtis Brothers before being involved with the Mac, so it seems plausible that he was familiar with the song as it was being created, even before it was selected for the white album. Ex-Fritz bandmate Bob Aguirre played with the Curtis Brothers. When Bob did his Q&A here at the Penguin I asked him about his involvement with the Curtis Brothers and he said the following:
Q - I read an article many years ago that left the impression on me that you drummed for the Curtis Brothers in the 70s. Is that right? If so, how long were you involved with them? Did you play a role in writing and bringing "Blue Letter" to Lindsey's (and Fleetwood Mac's) attention for inclusion on the 1975 Fleetwood Mac album?
A - Lesley, you sure know you`re stuff. Yes I played with the Curtis boys and by the way we recorded an album of some really good songs that never got released. And yes, LB did help out on some of those tracks. Actually LB was already friends of the Curtis Bros. before the Mac and introduced me to them.

Thanks to Mari, Neil and whoever else was involved in sharing these with us lowly fans.
I especially like this Rhiannon take, and frankly, I wish they had recorded it more like this for the FM album. This version has a raw, honest-to-goodness quality that becomes obscured by the sheen of the studio recording. I have especially been disenchanted with Rhiannon since The Dance. To me the way the band started performing it on that tour sucked a lot of the life out of it. I don't dig the piano intros and the way the song sputters to an end, like a car that has run out of gas on the highway. I'm not a fan of the piano in pop music, anyway. I like the live 70s versions, though I realize Stevie cannot, and should not, sing like that anymore.
Anyhoo, these are great.

I wouldn't say that necessarily. Couldn't 'Lady From the Mountain' be Sorcerer, to which Django was little more than the intro in this live version?
Or have 'Lady' and 'Sorcerer' been two separate songs as far back as then? Even still, someone who didn't know better might have called Sorcerer 'Lady from the mountain' since the lyrics feature in the chorus.

It's been a while since I've read their respective Q&As, but I believe that, while Gary Hodges only referred to the song as "Lady From The Mountain," Bob Aguirre actually stated that the song they knew as "Lady From The Mountain" is "now called 'Sorcerer.'"

Or have 'Lady' and 'Sorcerer' been two separate songs as far back as then? Even still, someone who didn't know better might have called Sorcerer 'Lady from the mountain' since the lyrics feature in the chorus.
I think it's safe to assume that "Lady from the Mountain" is "Sorcerer." When the "Lady from the Mountain" demo first surfaced as an acetate, it was called "Lady from the Mountain Part Two."

I'm having problems downloading them: on Mari's site I get an angelfire error message on 3 out of the 4 songs (Sorcerer is fine)- and on Neil's site I just get a lot of text which I cannot save as an mp4 file on my mac (tried both Safari and Explorer). Any suggestions?

Try http://www.fleetfootmike.net/bn/ - they download fine to a Mac for me from there (I tweaked the server to make sure they do..)

I guess I exceeded my bandwidth or something like that. Works now.

A HUGE thankyou to whoever has put these out...they are really super and just go to show how wonderfully talented L&S were, long before FM got a hold of them! :]
Btw..I absolutely love "live" Lola, which is really weird because of all the BN songs on the LP, it's the one I hate the most...haha...anyone else feel the same?
