View Full Version : Best Chorus in a Stevie Song

Either solo or with Fleetwood Mac.
My choices are:
"Well did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love,
And is it over now, do you know how
to pick up the pieces and go home?"
With second place going to:
"Time cast a spell on you but you won't forget me
I know I could have loved you but you would not let me."
What do you guys think?

Those are great. Stevie doesn't really write very often in that Verse/Chorus style.
For overall catchiness, the chorus of Say You Will just reels me in {hence, the term "the hook"}

Exactly! That's kind of what got me thinking about this....it's rare that she says the exact same thing in the chorus part of the song. Or she might only sing it once, like in Sara, or mix it up like in Bella Donna where the lyrics change every time the chorus part comes along. She certainly doesn't adhere to any set of pop song rules when she writes her lyrics.

"Every hour of fear I spend
My body tries to cry
Living through each empty night
A deadly call inside"
"Thrown down, like a barricade,
Maybe now he could prove to her that he could be good for her
That they should be together"
I love the chorus of GDW, and, even though she didn't write it, the chorus of Insider with Tom Petty is one of my favorites... it's just gorgeous.

Yeah, I love those.
And:
"Well did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love,
And is it over now, do you know how
to pick up the pieces and go home?"
Also. I love Stevie Nicks

I love the choruses that are deep in meaning, but the one that never fails to make me crank the volume and unabashedly start singing out loud :] is from "Gate and Garden":
"Do I love you?
Well, I always did! (every night...)
Nobody knows nothin' 'bout it
WHOOOOOOOOAAAAOOOOOO
Do I loooove youuuuu???..."
With my sheer volume and off-key interpretation, I've come close to car accidents, have tripped and fallen while dancing around my room, and several times have caused people to stop what they were doing and GLARE. Yes, GLARE.

This song has a special place in my heart because my first college roommate hated it, and when he would annoy me I would blast it. :)

"Lovers forever...face to face
My city or mountain...stay with me stay
I need you to love me
I need you today
Give to me your leather...take from me my lace"
"For me it's the only life that I've ever known
And love is only one fine star away
Even though the livin' is sometimes laced with lies...it's alright
The feeling remains even after the glitter fades"
"And she wonders is this real
or does she just want to be queen
And he fights the way he feels
Is this the end of the dream"
*Bella Donna is chock full of 'em
other faves:
"Yes, it was a strain on her watching her castles fall down
Oh, but there was a time when he called her angel
Where in the world did you come from?"
"If anyone falls in love
Somewhere...in the twilight...dreamtime...
somewhere in the back of your mind
If anyone falls..."
