Okay, pardon my stupidity...but how does this work. I can't just save the file, it doesn't really work. I'm confused - any help!?

Can't figure this out either. Says windows can't open this file. Strange.
Any help out there.

It's not a waste of time, it's a great way to share files. This file is massive though - over 900MB.
Here's a newbies' guide to Bit Torrent.

Got my copy.... Sounds great!

Took me 6 hours to download it and that's with DSL. The files are always huge, and it is a pretty confusing way at first to figure out how to download these shows - you need all these little programs to do this and that, but once you do, it's actually easy and it's well worth it. The quality is lossless compared to mp3. The files are compressed to either shn or flac then you decompress to wav files. Wish more FM shows would appear in this format for quality sake.

I tried to figure out this "torrent" crap a few months ago, and finally gave up, after several days of cursing!
I think you have to be a hippy to understand it

I agree, smoking something usually helps. ;)

*copies and pastes own post from Burnish board*

"The problem with Fleetwood Mac downloads at Sharing The Groove has mainly been the fact that people who download the shows seem to be mainly casual STG visitors. Thus the downloading speeds can be REALLY SLOW (if I was to believe the estimate that my BitTorrent client is giving me, I'd be done in 24 hours  ) and that's simply because most of the downloaders are behind a firewall (if you are, you should tamper with the settings) and it's blocking both their downloading and their uploading speeds. When the torrent is as big as it's now (958,1 MB) it just takes too long for everyone, no matter how fast your connection is and whether you're behind a firewall or not."

Of course, if you happen to connect to seeders (people who have the entire torrent)/leechers (people who are downloading the torrent and already have parts of it to share) who are not firewalled then it might go faster, but that's usually a matter of luck.

If people who are behind a firewall are really willing to go through the trouble and have the time read this thread from STG:
http://www.sharingthegroove.org/msgboard/showthread.php?threadid=25824

(Actually, I should configure my firewall too, I just haven't found the instructions yet. I ain't any better than others here. :o)

For other stuff, follow Joe's excellent link.

The greatest thing about this torrent is that it's coming directly from the taper and therefore it won't lose any data in partially failed burnings because of the multiple generation CD-Rs in between.

Oh, and just to ruminate further on one of the main problems of BitTorrent:

As of now, 348 people have clicked that link and started to download the show. However, now there's only 15 seeders and 113 leechers. That leaves 220 people who have done the "grab-n-run" (and most likely most of those leechers will do the same), downloaded the thing and then haven't kept on sharing the Torrent to the others. The fairest thing to do here is to upload at least as much as you download; the size of the torrent that is. So if some of you still want to start downloading that thing, please share as much as you take. It's the coolest and the hippiest thing for everyone. ;)

(What I would personally like is someone with a large collection of FM recordings to come there and kick butt with great-sounding shows but that's just the spoiled brat that I am talking again. ;))

I admit, it took me about a month to really understand how to work everything concerning bit torrents. But once you do it a few times, it really is simple. The link Joe provided is a great source for finding out about, well, everything.

Anyways, the show sounds very good (sound wise) from what I've heard of it. An A- in my book. I got it in about 5 hours using cable. For things like this, I usually just let them go over night so that I don't keep walking over and checking it every 5 minutes ;) . That's when most of the users come online too.

So would I!!! I've only seen about 4 FM/Stevie torrents since I've been there. The St. Louis Tusk show was there a month or two ago, and the Passaic (New Haven???) 1975 show was up there as well. The Jones Beach show from September was up a long time ago as well. That's why when I saw this show up I got really excited, because Fleetwood Mac seems to be a rare thing at Sharing The Groove.
