View Full Version : explain the reasoning for your user name

Hawkeye
05-14-2004, 10:34 PM
OK I really have to say I hate my user name and wish I could change it. A) I wish I could make it more MAc related. But I did originally have 3 MAc names but they were taken. And I bet people who see my name think I'm like this huge MASH fan. But really I like the show but not all that much. I liked it alot more back in 2001 when I joined. the show was on and I just wrote down Hawkeye thinking it works. But looking back It was a bad decision. I should have tried a few more Mac related names.

Well, I wanted something Stevie related. I wanted to be Firefly but I think that was taken. So I just started thinking and Golden Braid came into mind. I have blond hair and at the time it was in a braid so Golden Braid seemed like a natural choice. I also like that I can use the same name on other boards.

I like x's for some reason, and "Dreams Unwind" is my favorite lyric in Rhiannon. Add the two together, and you get my screen name :D.

DrummerDeanna
05-14-2004, 11:06 PM
Well, I'm a drummer and my name is Deanna..and I just wasn't creative enough with Mac or Stevie related names...everything I tried was taken...so I just used my name and added a drummer at the beginning...lol...I think I had recently purchased a drum set when I joined this board...and was also in a little local band...so I was way into my drumming...

I've since sold the drums (with the hopes that I can buy a better set when I get a real job) and haven't been doing a whole lotta drumming...one day that will change...my anger management issues skyrocketted once I stopped drumming lol..

Anyway..that's the story behind my user name :D

goldie
05-15-2004, 06:57 AM
Well back in the day in the chat rooms my name was golddust. People eventually shortened it and started calling me goldie. I tried to use golddust when I signed up for this board but it was obviously taken already! So I used goldie!! So it's FM related sort of but sort of not. :)

DeeGeMe
05-15-2004, 07:16 AM
Well, my initials are DG. I would have loved to have had some sort of cool FM related name but all the best ones were already taken and I was just too lazy to strain my brain to think up a new one.

Down On Rodeo. Ot's just an unreleased song of Lindsey's which I felt was... meaningful, beautiful, inspiriationally conceived and lovingly crafted.

What's that got to do with me? Absotulely nothing! I just like the song.

Wow, it's weird now. You've made me really question my identity, Hawkeye! The Ledge was my first message board etc, so now I use 'downonrodeo' for all other message boards, LJ, etc.

wondergirl9847
05-15-2004, 11:53 AM
My name comes from two Monkees songs, Randy Scouse Git, in which Micky Dolenz writes, "the being known as WONDERGIRL is speaking I believe..." and the other song is PO Box 9847, so there are the numbers.

I have been a Monkees fan since WAY back in the day 1986 to be exact, and became an internet nut before I found Fleetwood Mac, so no FM related name for me, I love my name too much to change it.

People on other boards call me Wonder or Wondergirl, if they don't know my real name. :)

77Rumours77
05-15-2004, 01:53 PM
Well SADLY my favorite FM album was Rumours. Rumours came out in 1977 hence 77Rumours77 Yea I just thought that it would of mad more sence to be 19Rumours77. Oh well

Since I first saw the "Gypsy" video on MTV during the Summer of 82, I've been completely and hopelessly obsessed with Stevie Nicks, so I decided I was "Nicksed". That didn't look right, so I tried "nixed". I added the two extra Xs for emphasis, and just to be trashy.

I use another name at a few diff boards so I didn't want it too different. Anyways I'm a big star wars fan, and my favorite character from the books is Mara Jade (she was the emperors assasin, eventually turned to good and became a jedi...) so thats where the "jade" is from. gypsy is due to the fact that it remains one of my all time fave songs, my first music video memory, and I myself am a bit of a gypsy. Enough info yes?

As I've said before, there are not many clearly male references in Stevie's songs, and The Ledge didn't need one more Highwayman. Besides, I really like Garbo (the song).

I was one of the few people who dissented from the Toad and his cronies over on Mick's board, so I thought this was an apt username. I still have fond memories from that police state, too. I was banned for writing a dirty limmerick about Toad and gldstwmn was banned for typing "Dick Van Dyke."

Well, here is the breakdown:

1) Mac is for Fleetwood Mac

2)Mar is the first three letters of my last name

3) 71 is the year I was born

and this has stuck with me ever since I got on line in 1999, I had to come up with a user name for Webtv and I tried several things which were of course taken and this one came to me in a urgent moment almost out of thin air.

I discovered the ledge in '97, it was the first message board I posted on. Needed something simple. It's short for my real name: Marieke. I thought that name would be too difficult for non-Dutch people :p
I use the name everywhere on the internet now, sometimes I add my birthyear, if the name's already taken. People even call me Mari now, because Marieke is a very common name in the Netherlands, and this distinguishes me from my namesakes :D

I've since sold the drums (with the hopes that I can buy a better set when I get a real job) :D

about 10 years ago, i sold my drums because i moved out of the house....needless to say, an apartment is no place for a drummer. I finally decided to sell them to raise money for a car that i needed to buy. I intended on buying another set but you know what??? 10 years later.....and i'm still at the "real" job....and no drum set!

replace that drumset this instant Deanna!

05-17-2004, 06:01 PM
Cool thread. And I swar I didn't read this before I posted my boy/girls thread.

Well, VILLAVIC comes from my ral lastname: VILLAVICENCIO (very spanish, isn't it?)

I comes from the DOS days where you had the 8.3 -characters limitation naming a file. Example AUTOEXEC.BAT 8 and 3 characters.

I worked on those days with mainframe computers (late 80s). I was a young new engineer, and mainframes also had an 8-characters limit.

So I always named my jobs "VILLAVIC", because I couldn't put VILLAVICENCIO

Later my boss started to call me Villavic, so everybody did.

He wasn't me favorite boss, he was the first boos I had, but actually we never became friends. So I remember him every time somebody asks about the "villavic" thing. But I don't care.

It's like Tina Turner, she kept the TURNER lastname, no matter how Ike made her suffer.

Isn't that weird????? :D

Johnny Stew
05-20-2004, 02:20 PM
I really hate all the Stevie-inspired user names you see on the Internet. Enough is enough with all that. Don't those people realize that they're self-parodies? Other people on the Net make fun of all the GypsySaraFluffyDoves.

It can get a bit excessive, but it is hard to find an appropriate screenname. Otherwise we end up with David, David A., David B., David C., etc., etc.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, but that's why I went with "Johnny Stew." I started out as the only regularly posting "Brian" on the original Ledge, and then suddenly there were about five of us, and people were having trouble knowing who was who, even with the addition of last initials... so instead of seeming interchangeable, I picked what I did. :D
