i just downloaded alanis morissette's new album So Called Chaos and i'm soooooo disappointed... i highly respect alanis, but c'mon.. that's a really uninspired effort here... seems like she's rocking harder this time just in order to hide the songwriting's sinking, goddamnit, she had songs 10 times better than these on Feast On Scraps!
the production is also basic (not to use the word "primitive"), and other then This Grudge and Everything i can't note any songs i can really like, and this is the 3rd time i'm listening, this is not a good sign! i still hope it'll grow on me coz otherwise i'd be very pissed, i don't think we should be getting such crappy music from her. i'm giving this album the weekend to improve, and if it doesn't work, Morrissey's You Are The Quarry's gonna be back in the cd player.

You know, I actually haven't been able to get into an Alanis album since "Jagged Little Pill" I don't know what it is...but by the single they're playing on the radio from this new album...I was going to give it a try...but after reading your review I may wait and pick it up cheap and used :)

I LOVED "Thank You India" and "Your Not Invited" but and sadly I hear this latest one is not that great.

I bought under rug swept and it's not bad, but the others are barely surviving. i'd like to say that's what usually happens when you have an amazing debut album (JLP) and then suffer the consequences of international fame. i saw her on tv the other day though and she's completley different: physical appearance, musically, lyrically. not that that is necessarily a bad thing, but it's not what she got famous for so people aren't really looking to her for spiritual guidance, they're just not buying her records at all.

you better buy a used Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie (or Under Rug Swept if you don't find one), don't bother with this new one.

Pffft... If she hadn't sung about going down in a theater, she wouldn't have made a ripple.
Besides she stole one of my song titles. And I am

Haven't heard this new one (Except the single) but Under Rug Swept is incredible...and of course I've always loved Jagged Little Pill..

I'm bummed to hear that - I have and have loved every album of hers since Jagged Little Pill. I just heard the new single the other day - it kind of sounds like a different version of all her other songs. I will probably still get the album, though.
I don't have Feast on Scraps - I didn't even know it existed until the other day! Don't know how I missed that.

SORRY to bring up and old tread :sorry: , but I just got this album today and, of what I've given a chance to listen to, I LOVE it. 8 Easy Steps, *Knees of My Bees*, So Called Chaos, and Everything are among the best she has ever done, IMO. I think the reason I connect with Alanis' music so much is we seem to be on the same plane spiritually, both of us being heavily influenced by Neale Donald Walsh's Conversations with God series. It is refreshing to hear great music with spiritual themes. She seems so full of love.
So, has anyone else gotten this album? What do you think?

Is it perhaps because she settled into a vocal style that makes me and my pets light ourselves on fire or jump from a speeding car rather than listen to it?

The only songs on it I can even tolerated are "Everything," "Eight Easy Steps," and "Excuses". Alanis has come a long way since "Jagged Little Pill" and that's not a good thing.

I own none of her albums & have no plans to buy this one. It does seem like she is talked about quite a bit on the radio, though.
