Thanks, Marty!

I think it's okay, but the little sun they added is just too, too cheesy.

I think it's actually an orange light, but it looks like a sun which is cool.
'Watch the sun riiiise...'
I like it, it's not too obscure or irrelevant. Save that for the studio albums. This is just what it is - FM live in concert.
Although I am reminded of what I read in the Tusk reissue liner notes, about the fans being turned off by the cover art with a picture of a biting dog and wanting a picture of a twirling Stevie instead..

I wouldn't want it to be a picture of just Stevie, but I think they could have a) chosen better photos, and b) arranged/positioned them better. It looks a bit cheesy is all, imo. But I'm just glad it's being released!

How come if I joke about wanting it all to focus on Lindsey I'm told I'm unappreciative of the band, but we can get away with saying the same about Stevie? Is there an anti-Lindsey orgasnisation running this board, or perhaps just an anti-Lux organisation? Wherever I go, I never fail to piss people off.
WHOO HOO!!! Something as simple as discussion about the album cover is now going to turn into yet ANOTHER Stevie VS. Lindsey debate. (No offense Lux, I'm surely adding fuel to the fire here myself.) Last I checked, it wasn't allowed to focus on Stevie either without being flagged as a silly "Chiffon head" . Nobody can win I guess.

yes, well... that's another issue altogether which I wasn't really going to raise cause I saw it going down a pointless SvL course of discussion. Either way, I've rationalized that her face is hidden and she's turned away which equals out her size. That said, I like how she's sort of (justifiably) depicted as the sort of 'spirit' of the band on stage. Lindsey has that yellowy 'energy' light around him so that's good enough for me. I think it's great, just showing them what they do best.

Now that's a great album cover!!!
I'd rather these "action" shots blended together then a single shot of them all together in one pic on stage just standing there facing the audience... How boring would that be? At least with these shots it's up close, and captures the essense of each individuals perfomance... Remember it is a promo tool... not a poster!

I swear I wasn't trying to start a debate! I wasn't even annoyed, I was just being observant (or was it subservient, no, I think it was observant). I don't care if people rabbit on about how much they love Stevie, but I seem to get shut down whenever I hint to the fact that I really only care for Lindsey('s body).
Perhaps this is why we have our buckinghamnicks chat. Lindsey's crotch! Damn tourettes again.
With all due respect, you do not just "hint to the fact that I really only care for Lindsey('s body)" or at least it comes across that way. You say things like, in sum, LB should be up there alone and La Nicks should not be there, etc. Again, even though I think most people have no problem with you feeling that way, you must realize by now that when you say things like that even in jest, people are going to call you on it because it comes across as disrespect of Stevie and her significant contributions as a member of FM. So, IMO, you are not being singled out in any way and it is not a personal attack on your feelings for LB. It is a reminder that he is not the only person in FM
Also, although they are all featured on the cover, La Nicks is more prominently featured on the cover because she is the most recognized member of FM and they (record company and band) want this to sell. Note: I am not slamming LB or Mick or John. But, clearly Stevie is more recognizeable and initial reaction from the majority of people glancing at a group of discs by different artists is very very important from a marketing perspective. That is all I am saying.

Let me take a crack at this. The Stevie crowd is much larger. The Lindsey crowd is smaller (and hardly a crowd, more like a team), but way more refined and sophisticated. ;) Of coure, there is also a third contingent, the Buckingham-Nicks crowd, consisting of members who claim they like both equally but usually favor Stevie a little more. A subgroup of that is the "Never Admit It" crowd, and these are the people who realize Lindsey has gotten better with time while Stevie stagnated somewhere around 1984, made a slight improvement in the late 90s and then reached another plateau, albeit not nearly as low as 1984. They realize that, but they'll never admit it publicly. :]
So don't feel bad. Just rejoice in knowing you are among the sophisticates. :woohoo:

I have serious doubts about whether this is the actual album cover. It's pretty cheesy. I could have made that myself.
Also, you might have noticed that when you click Marty's link in the original post there is also an item for a "PBS Special" with a release date of Jan. 1 2010. That raises some questions. What is the difference between these two releases? Could the PBS special be the Lindsey show? I would pay 50 bucks for the Lindsey appearance. That is really what I want.

You have forgotten to mention there ARE people who do mean it when they say they love them both the same, like ME!
I feel I must defend myself, because I have a bad feeling you are implying I am in the second group just because I might occasionally express dislike of Stevie's late 80s and 90s music, and have actually said Lindsey keeps getting better. HOWEVER, I do indeed love Stevie just as much as Lindsey.
I mean it when I defend her SUBSTANTIAL contributions to Fleetwood Mac (of course I exclude TITN, but that is only because I am exercising logic, not subconcious favoritism). As for solo, her material on TISL and SYW redeems any earlier flaws (with the exception of TMMS, Silver Girl, and Illume. Every Day wasn't her fault because she didn't write it). Obviously, she also is improving over time. The reason I rarely post in her forum is because she is so popular I simply don't have time to read all those posts, lol.
Stevie is magnificent - I can connect to her on so many levels. She has written so many songs that touch me on a personal level. I adore her. And, finally, my site provides undeniable proof that I don't play favorites.
I have said it before and I'll say it again. I love them both the same in different ways. I expressed it this way to a Lindsey-loving friend once who accused me of the same thing: Lindsey's amazing talent awes me, but I can relate more to Stevie (although certainly the two are not mutually exclusive. Lindsey can move me and Stevie has amazing talent, too, so this is a false dichotomy in that sense, but I'm doing the best that I can to express a very difficult concept. I just feel that on the whole, this expresses my general sentiments best).
Sorry for the diatrible, but I take exception to being accused of lying when I express my love and admiration of Stevie. I am willing to admit she is not perfect, but then again neither is Lindsey, even now. I simply don't feel the need to bash Lindsey every time I praise Stevie. But perhaps this blows your mind, and you truly cannot imagine such a mentality. That does not mean it doesn't exist, as my evidence CLEARLY shows. Somehow I have a feeling that some people will disregard all this evidence in order to better enjoy an elitist persecution complex, which enables them to feel more special. But regarding those of you with open minds, I believe I have made my point.

It's not so much the debates over whose better, Lindsey or Stevie...it's the whole concept of Lindsey AND Stevie being the "be all & end all" of Fleetwood Mac that irks me. Fleetwood Mac lived before they got here and survived without 'em after they left.
It's right up there with the "who's better, Lennon or McCartney" debates on Beatle boards. As McCartney said during the Anthology..."Damn it, it's the Beatles, shut up"
So, I paraphrase the above in reference to the "Lindsey vs Stevie" debates as:
Argue who's better over their solo material..."if it's a Fleetwood Mac song, damn it, it's Fleetwood Mac, shut up"

THANK YOU!!! It cuts both ways, BNicks would not have been known w/o FMac! Bare Trees, Future Games, Mystery to Me sold 250,000-300,000 copies riding on CMcVie and Welch. It's Fleetwood Mac that has made Fleetwood Mac. And Stevie and Linsdey would agree now that they have grown up and stopped beating each other up. :]

I really despise this cover. AND the title. Ugly & Dumb. When I saw them live, I really experienced " togetherness ". To my total surprise I must admit. What I did NOT see: four individuals going for their own thing. And that's exactly what this cover communicates !
Shameful and a very big chance missed. They really DIDN'T think about visual communication and it's importance. Not with this bad excuse for a cover. The 1980 live-album-cover is a trazillion times better.

So are you suggesting that the 1980 Fleetwood Mac Live album cover was any better??
Live album covers are tough because the album itself is not a single concept, but rather, a compilation of a bunch of songs. Although I thought "The Dance" cover was gorgeous, I didn't think it was appropriate for a live album. Nothing about it suggested that "this is a live album" until you flipped it over and read the track listing. Alternatively, a straightforward shot of the band in performance would have been too obvious, much like the live album covers from the 70s.
For what it is, I like the cover. It's a bit on the chintzy side, but it definitely captures the mood and the drama of an FM show- with Mick in mid-yell, Lindsey's intensity, and Stevie's ethereal gossamer-winged presence. If anything, I think the title really blows! Couldn't they have come up with something even a little creative? Like "Mac at Fleet"? ;-)

I didn't imply anything. I came right out and said it. This may be a case of "If the hat fits..."

That looks like warped logic to me. If I record a ****ty song, it's no my fault that the song sucks because I didn't write it?

I simply don't feel the need to bash Lindsey every time I praise Stevie. But perhaps this blows your mind, and you truly cannot imagine such a mentality.
No, Nancy, it doesn't blow my mind that a fan can like one without feeling the need to tear down the other. What blows my mind is how personally you've taken these comments and how defensive you're acting. You know what they say about defensiveness, don't you? Methinks the lady doth protest...
Somehow I have a feeling that some people will disregard all this evidence in order to better enjoy an elitist persecution complex, which enables them to feel more special.
Evidence!? Persecution complex!? Dude, evidently you take this stuff much more seriously than I do. Posting goofy remarks and playfully engaging in discussions about these people is mere entertainment for me, a way to break up my day, which involves staring at a screen for hours and trying to find mistakes in people's copy. Fleetwood Mac is not a religion for me, much less an obsession.
I think some poeple here get that I am rarely 100 percent serious when I make the more stinging comments about the band. Others don't. I guess we know where you fit.

I don't do anything else than you: You think it's great. I say it stinks. It's an unprofessional, goofy dumb and ugly cover that communicates cheapness. Because I know that what will be on the inside is worth a listen, makes me more angry about it. I would like to see that the band I love gets some more critical acclaim, and here in Europe get some ATTENTION at all, because their work deserves it. Maybe you think that a cover has no effect on that, well then ok. But i know that it has, and if I can choose which dvd I'm buying and that second hand B-design is one of them, I don't take the risk that it represents what's on the inside.
We're living in a visual consumption society. That means nothing to you. fair enough. I teach visual communication in university. And I can get pissed about these things with the same passion as I can be pissed about American political attitude. So, please, don't say that I should not.
It's what estrangedforlife said earlier: It looks like a friggin' homecollage from a bootlegger. Cheap cheaper cheapest.

I agree with you and Brian. It looks like one of us cut out pictures from the concert photos we took and pasted it on a blue background and added that stupid sun to it. It's disappointing. :( Actually, the fans would have done a better job with it!
I'm excited about the music and everything, it's just that covers do mean something to the general public, because as Gerald said, we are a visual society, unfortunately.
Hey, who knows, perhaps it will sell more than the Dance.

It's just an album cover people... don't get so up-tight....Is it really worth all the anger? 62 posts later and I think it's pretty much unanimous that everyone else thinks they could have done a better job...great!
I guess by the sounds of it you can tell there's not much else happening in FleetwoodMacLand!

That looks like warped logic to me. If I record a ****ty song, it's no my fault that the song sucks because I didn't write it?
Well.... OK. This is a good point.
"Accused of lying?" I don't remember specifying anything about you, Nancy. Methinks you're perhaps betraying some delusions of grandeur here by assuming I was talking about you.
Me amongst others. I'm assuming then that I wasn't included amongst the people who don't really love both? Thanks! :)
I think some poeple here get that I am rarely 100 percent serious when I make the more stinging comments about the band. Others don't. I guess we know where you fit.
Yeah, I have a tendency to take people at their word and assume they mean what they say. I assume people are genuine and stand behind their statements. I guess we know where you DON'T fit.
Perhaps I overreacted and took things too personally - I am under immense stress this time of year and I come here to relieve that stress. I have been writing papers all week and will continue to do so until next Friday, when all four will be done. And I very well might be losing my grip on proper persepctive and reality altogether, because right now my reality consists of Shakespeare, Archival Theory, and John Donne. So please spare me the trite Shakespearen quotes and I will try to be less pissy towards you and everyone else in my path, for that matter.

:woohoo:
I suppose I'm in a class all by myself: sophisticated, refined and wise enough to know that they've both gotten better with time.
But then, I've always preferred not being "one of the crowd"... whichever crowd that might be. ;) :D

By the way, does the "Live In Boston" cover look familiar to anyone else?

I know I've seen it.

It makes for a really good tour ad, but for an album cover it leaves me a little underwhelmed.
I think it's the artist in me, that dislikes the fact that it's lopsided.
Stevie and the title dominate the top half, and then the guys dominate the bottom right... with emptiness in the bottom left.
(By the way, for anyone complaining... Stevie and Lindsey are the same size on the cover.)
Personally, I would have gone with this fan-pic, or one like it....

YES. "togetherness" instead of a montage that could have anybody in it. The cover just invites to do crappy photoshop-experiments with your own head. (or on Mick's: with someone you dislike ;) )

i think it's really cheesy looking.
i never understand when FM puts out bad covers. they live in a city that has some of the most interesting graphic designers in the country - you'd think they could get it together to put an interesting cover on their new album - oh well. Say You Will was a decent cover, as was Tusk, Rumours, FM, and Live. The rest were just sub-par.

Really? Lucky us! lol I'm comparing Donne's definition of the feminine soul in "Metempsychosis" to his definition of the soul in the Anniversaries when speaking of Elizabeth Drury. Wish me luck! :)
P.S. Sorry for getting off-topic, guys. For the record, I'm unimpressed with the cover. Lindsey looks terrible. There are much hotter pics of him in the tourbook, like this one:

We sure are some lucky ducklings! :xoxo: I had to write about how "The Flea" related to the views of sexuality during the period in which it was written. Big surprise the theme of the poem (taking a young girls virginity) was rather risque at the time.

Now that I've had time to digest this cover, here are my thoughts:
That sun (or light) is VERY ridiculous looking. I mean, it sticks out like a sore thumb. However, it's not as cheesy as in the SYW liner notes. But it's still tacky as all hell.
The pictures are awful quality. They're blurry and look low-res. You really can't see Stevie or Lindsey's face, either. And I think the pictures themselves are unflattering.
Let Prince do the purple.
The logos are way, way cheesy.
Ditto what everyone else said: it looks like something a bootlegger came up with in twelve minutes.
I seriously think that they gave Chris Nicks free reign on the design.

Well, just remembering concert dvds covers like Cher, Tina Turner or The Dance, the pic is always longer.
This Boston pic looks like a CD cover, not a DVD, isn't that weird?
And after reading this thread, seems like a covers poll is needed.

A few points:
The cover reminds me of the artwork that SaraRhiannon created and used to use on her site.
The idea to have fans create the cover artwork is awesome! I think THAT would be a great contest for the band to have: create a cover and the one that the band uses gets a prize. That would be so cool!
