I just watched the Stevie Nicks In Concert vid today for the first time in a really LONG time, and I was just blown away all over again!
I was getting chills from her voice, and for some reason I was literally close to tears several times (no clue why.) So if you haven't seen it in a while - WATCH IT AGAIN SOON!

That version of Gold And Braid is amazing in every way. It ruined me for the Enchanted Tour version.

That's what hooked me!!

Funny thing is I saw it when it "premiered" on HBO when I was around 12. I saw it...was mesmerized...in awe and wonder :o

That version of Gold And Braid is amazing in every way. Since I live in Los Angeles, I got to see Stevie's shows at the Fox Wilshire Theatre in Beverly Hills, where this was filmed. They had just renovated the theater, & Stevie was the first artist to play the newly decked-out venue -- it was a beautiful place. I think it's even still in business, but they have plays there now. John Stewart was the opening act. Stevie didn't join him for "Gold," by the way, which was silly. He played a lot of his "Bombs Away, Dream Babies" songs, he had a Turner electric, & I remember him saying that Stevie was going to fly in on her broomstick or something.

When she played "Gold & Braid," it was quite a buzz. We didn't know what it was. We didn't even know who wrote it. I figured it was some old Motown-type song that she was covering. I think it was the only time I've ever heard Stevie perform something absolutely brand new to the audience. We knew "I Need to Know" even though she was playing it for the first time -- everybody knew Petty's songs. That was a major buzz, too, hearing her rip into that on the first night. The crowd cheered, but they seem to have edited a lot of that noisy reaction out of the video.

Lucky you. I'd be on the floor if she debuted a new song with no hype at a concert. I know, it'll never happen again.

Yes, it is (I love their harmonies & that frozen shot at the end as the light fades), though I hate that it's left out of the video. At least it's on the compilation video.

same here. i think it premiered on HBO in like February of 1982. i remember seeing the previews for it. there was one clip of her at the beginning of "edge of seventeen" when she's walking on stage and twirls and raises her arms behind Waddy and then sings the first few verses. i had already starting liking her when "stop draggin et al" came out so this was cool that i got more exposure to everything else she was doing...the rest is history.

Now why would they do that when the networks give us the gifts of Britney and Christina concerts?

That performance alone is worth the cost of the video no matter how high you bid on it on Ebay!

Stevie stamping around with her tamborine is just priceless too.

I think she needs to revive this kind of dancing for the current tour :D

It seems to me that the home video version was mixed a bit differently than the original HBO broadcast. When I bought the video a few years ago, I was kind of puzzled at the relative lack of audience noise.

I seem to recall the original credits for the show listed the song as "Golden Braid" instead of "Gold & Braid", as well.

I saw John Stewart & band at the now non-existent Golden Bear in Huntington Beach right when Dream Babies Go Hollywood came out. At the time, he was the only person other than Lindsey who I'd seen play a Turner Model 1. The really weird thing was that he didn't have a bass player...his keyboard player played the bass parts on an old Mini-Moog which sounded kind of odd to my ears at the time. John had a small refrigerator sized rack of effects...which didn't work 3/4 of the time...his roadie would have to come out between what seemed like every song to mess with the rack to get John's guitar to work. (5 minutes between songs was a bit much) Finally, John got pissed off and switched to an acoustic and played the rest of his set "unplugged". The roadie DID finally get the gear working for John's last song, "Midnight Wind"...after all that, the 10 or 15 of us left in the audience (there were only 20 or 30 to begin with...THAT was really weird) got John to come back for an encore...a solo acoustic version of "Daydream Believer"...we all sang along with the "Cheer up, Sleepy Jean" parts

Yeah, on the box it has it listed as "Golden Braid." I actually prefer calling the song that because it makes a little more sense, at least to me anyway. This performance I think is the most entertaining thing I've ever seen Stevie do. While I love the screaming in The Chain during Mirage, the tongues in Sisters, and the wild ending of Rhiannon in the early days, nothing makes me crack a smile more than watching her do the "step, step, step, HIGH KICK!" during Golden Braid, aka Gold and Braid. Also, I love during the second chorus as she swings side to side with the tambourine, at the end it looks like she almost loses control of the tambourine...like the momentum of her swinging it takes over. So entertaining, so classic Stevie...

EXACTLY! Good thing Waddy wasn't behind her, she would have taken him out when she whipped her tambo back there!

Another part that's REALLY vivid in my mind is that REALLY high side kick during one of the EO17 choruses "just like the white winged dove, sings the song sounds like she's singing OH *kick* BABY, SAID YEAH YEAH!!!!!!"

there's one part at the end of "rhiannon" where she's behind Waddy facing the drums and waddy suddenly jerks the neck of the guitar up and it looks like he knocked stevie right in the kisser and then she raises her arm. obviously she was a few feet behind him but from the angle of the shot it doesn't look that way...

thankfully she was wearing those boots...i can just see her doing that with regular shoes and suddenly it flies off, knocking out russ kunkel! actually that's something that would have likely happened during the RAL tour....

For me the coolest part of this show was the debut of "acoustic" Rhiannon. Her voice was just perfect, with Roy Bittan playing the great piano part.

I thought I was going to flip at the end of it where she says-

"You say... Rhiannon....
Don't go..... Rhiannon..............."

PRICELESS!!!!!

It's worth it! If anyone does not have it, get it, you will NOT be disappointed!

Btw, it's always been listed as OOP, but I got mine at an FYE record store in the mall within the last 2 or 3 years, so I'm not sure about that.

YES!!!! That part is soooooooooo cool!!

I'm sure the reason she doesn't talk to anyone in concert is because she ain't hopped up on coke no more.

I can not believe that this video is not out on DVD but the horrific Red Rocks concert is. I saw her open this tour in Houston at the Summit and I was also blown away by Golden Braid...also Blue Lamp was great. One of the best concerts I have ever seen.
