With Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash having done some excellent stuff like this in the last few years, I'm glad to hear that Loretta is making a similar move.

I was just going to post about this! :blob1: :blob2:

I got in the mail yesterday and...HOLY ****...it's freakin' BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, her VOICE! She's almost seventy and she sounds like she's twenty. She blows Shania and Faith out of the water.

Second, the production and the songs!!! AMAZING!

I pre-ordered it after reading the big article in Entertainment Weekly two weeks ago about her and Jack White. Great article, BTW.

I'm NOT a country fan, with the exception of some Loretta Lynn and the queen called Dolly, but this CD is brilliant. It's got rock, country, wow is all I can say. And I don't even really like the White Stripes.

What is it with all the good albums recently?! Prince, Cyndi Lauper, Blondie, and now Loretta Lynn (of all people!).

You won't be disappointed when you get it and I urge everyone else to get it ASAP.

I've become more of a country fan in the last year or so. I don't listen to contemporary country (which isn't really country anyway) at all, but Johnny Cash's last few albums, as well as Dolly Parton's recent bluegrass stuff are what made me start exploring more "traditional" country artists (Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, etc). I was actually wondering if Loretta would go in the same direction (especially after she did that horrible "Country in My Genes" song a couple of years ago).

And I really like the White Stripes. It just took me by surprise (in a good way) when I found out that Jack White was producing this album.

Anyway...

I don't think I've been this excited about a CD coming out since Say You Will. :)

Here's a link to three of her news songs. My favorites are Van Lear Rose and Portland, Oregon. Oh I can't wait I was raised on Loretta. Her voice and her songs are so powerful and moving.

It's totally amazing. Every single track is a classic. I'm not one for the Jack White hype machine, but this record is amazing and he deserves praise for being able to bring Loretta's talent in focus for a whole new generation with this.

I've turned into such a country and alt country fan in the last several years, even more than I used to be. I think all I've played this week is twang- Johnny's Love God Murder set, Willie, Loretta Lynn, Sam Phillips, Patty Griffin (which my officemate just told me she thought was country- I say folk, but hey.), Lucinda, Dylan Country- the Dylan covers album by Nashville artists.

I bought it on Tuesday, and it's all I've been listening to. I love the fact that she wrote all the songs, and I agree, there isn't a bad one on there. Jack and Loretta seem like an odd match, but it works. I hope everyone gets a chance to hear this...they've both done some brilliant work with this.

that Hayley was playin' this record on repeat, I stopped and picked up "Van Lear Rose" after work. I'm surprised that I like it so much.. Mrs. Leroy Brown is a hoot..

".. well slow gin fizz works mighty fast
when you drink it by the pitcher and not by the glass.."

Loretta is just singin' it like it is.. time to repeat..

Loretta Lynn & Jack White will be performing their duet "Portland Oregon" on "The Late Show with David Letterman" this Monday night.

I'm not much a fan of Loretta but I do give her my respect...

Keith, if we got married and merged our CD collections, we'd be happy forever. Please?? :-)
