Anyone else have this album? Whaddya think? I am a fairly big Blondie fan, and I cannot get into it at all. Am I missing something? There are about 2 songs I like and I don't know if it's genuine or they just seem good amongst the rest of the tracks.
Fill me in.

i've this album for about 6 months now, and i can tell you that it doesn't get any better with time.
as always, blondie sounds great, but the problem with this album is just bad, uninspired writing, which makes it a rather boring one.
(on the other hand- you gotta go see their concerts).

I was just going to start a thread for this. ;)
I am in love with this album. I think it's the best album they ever recorded, even better than Autoamerican and Parallel Lines (well, maybe not, but it's up there). She's never sounded any better, nor has Chris and, especially, Clem. Clem is electric on this record; you'd be hard pressed to find a better drummer in the music industry, even Mick doesn't compare. This album is miles ahead of No Exit, which left me a bit cold.
As for the writing, I think it's fantastic. Blondie has never been a band that writes brilliant lyrics; they're supposed to be a bit trite, out-there, and humorous. I think this record certainly accomplishes that. Anything is better than "Screaming Skin," my friends. :D
My favorite songs are:
Shakedown (I love the chorus!)
Good Boys (Much better than the single version and the video rawks; she looks sexy as hell in it)
Undone (When I got the CD, this is the first song that played when I pushed "shuffle" and I knew I'd love the album)
Golden Rod (The BEST song on here!!!!!!!! What a voice and the lyrics are fantastic)
End To End (Mmmmmmm)
Hello Joe (Wonderful. I pray that they play it live.)
Last One In the World (Rocks.)

I am getting more into the album now...I love a lot of the songs themselves, I have realized it is mostly the production of the album that was throwing up a wall for me. I just saw them in concert, and **HOLY ****!** I had seen them before, but this was incredible. I really liked all of the new songs live, which I expected to. Still, I will send $20 to anyone who finds Desire Brings Me Back listenable. ;) (And I can listen to some pretty avant garde stuff.....)

When I first heard Desire Brings Me Back, I instantly imagined it as a song in a Tarantino flick. If he's still making movies in twenty years, he'll use it.
And I can't wait to see them next month. Nothing beats their ticket prices of $30, dude.
PS: Did they play Golden Rod? I pray that they did!

Ain't it the truth? I love her voice more now than ever. Did you see that Bravo Musicians episode a few years back with her and Chris? She sounded absolutely amazing, like buttah I tell you, and it was acoustic--just Debbie and Chris's guitar. I was all goosebumpy the whole time.

I like it a lot too. oh, but by the way, i also like "Screaming Skin" and actually, I think a lot of lyrics are much smarter than they first appear. I often think of Debbie as an outstanding lyricist..Omigosh, I forgot that the video for Good Boys was on my CD. What a video, i thought it was awesome, debbie looks great, and the concept was awesome..mmkay?

I like Screaming Skin. :(
Hello Joe (Wonderful. I pray that they play it live.)
Homahgah. Have you seen the Live By Request footage of it? Something about the way she sings it. Beautiful. The "Catch the sunrise" and "I caught you in the rain" verses especially. *swoon*
My favorites on it are Good Boys, Golden Rod, Rules For Living, Diamond Bridge, End To End, Hello Joe, Last One In The World, and Songs Of Love. I could do without Magic and Background Melody. I'm iffy on Shakedown and The Tingler. And Undone.
It was my first Blondie album, so I'm really partial to it. Love it, love it, love it. Autoamerican's probably my favorite, though, out of all of them.
EDIT - Weird. My mp3-rip of Hello Joe from LBR just started on Winamp. O_O

I love Screaming Skin, too, but some of those lyrics...ouch. It's a very funny song, IMO.
I agree when it comes to the lyrics. What I was trying to get across, though obviously not very well, was that they're trite and laughable but also quite deep in meaning. Don't know if that makes sense, but it does to me.
I've been listening to Def, Dumb, and Blonde all day and that is one killer album. How it wasn't a hit is beyond me. Same with KooKoo! I love the Military Rap.
LOVE the Good Boys vid, especially the black and white switch to color.

Love that one, but my favorites from that DVD are Union City Blue (I never tire of it) and End To End. I also love Dream's Lost On Me. *double swoon*

Blasphemy! Background Melody CRACKS ME UP. One of the funniest songs I've ever heard. And Magic is beautiful to these ears. You must hear The Tingler live, it's superb. That acoustic guitar is killer.

Do you have the remastered Autoamerican? Suzy and Jeffrey is one of their best songs ever recorded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got the Blondie singles box set as a present yesterday!
It's so cool, all the singles with their original artwork and b-sides in a tidy little box.
That's one of my prized possessions; some of those b-sides and extra tracks are awesome, especially now that they've been remastered and I don't have to listen to crappy vinyl conversions. I wish they had included Maria and Nothing Is Real but the Girl (the single version is ten times better than the album version). If they had, they could have thrown in "Hot Shot" as a bonus track somewhere. I? Love that song.

No, it makes sense, but i automatically see the deep part, for some reason, with Debbie/Blondie. And i laugh, too. It's just really great, IMO.

Magic *is* pretty, but I just.. eh. I dunno. I'll listen to it again (and BM) and see if my opinion changes. God knows that's what happened with OSOTM, and now look at me.

But of course. I'm doing pretty well with their albums. I think I'm down to three that I need (Hunter, PLetters, Eat). I'm not sure how I feel about S&J. I think Jimmy went overboard with the keyboards.
I love how we're all geekin gout over Blondie. <3

Sorry to break the mood, but I thought the album was...not so good. Admittedly, I'm not the biggest Blondie fan. I only have the greatest hits. My favorite Blondie songs are "Hanging On the Telephone," "Rapture," "Atomic," "Sunday Girl," "Call Me," and of course "Heart of Glass."
Anyway, the few songs that I did enjoy on Curse were "Good Boys", "Rules for Living", "Diamond Bridge" and "Songs for Living." I genuinely liked these songs. However, "Shakedown," "Magic," "Background Melody," "Desire Brings Me Back,"....totally unlistenable. Nails-on-a-chalkboard, atrocious. The rest was just "ok" nothing good but nothing else that was intolerably bad. :sorry:
Thankfully a friend had this and I did not buy it!
Putting on Atomic now...
"aaaahhh your hair is beautiful. aaaaaaahhhh tonight...atomic."
do do do dooo, do do do doooo Man I love this song!

Atomic is one helluva song, especially live; they pull out all the stops. It goes from a New Wave/Cisco song to a spaghetti western to a rocker. Brilliant.

The chants in Magic are what seals the deal for me. And I love the lyrics.
Background Melody just kills me. A whole song about how her voice was coming out of the radio as two kids screwed. Love it.
But of course. I'm doing pretty well with their albums. I think I'm down to three that I need (Hunter, PLetters, Eat). I'm not sure how I feel about S&J. I think Jimmy went overboard with the keyboards.
The Hunter is much better than what people say. It's worth it just for Dragonfly and War Child. *swoons over War Child* War Child is one of their best. They did it on the latest tour and it was fabulous. I really like this tour because they've dusted off songs no one ever thought they'd hear live again: War Child, Bike Boy, Detroit 442, Pretty Baby, Fade Away and Radiate, etc. Now, if only they pulled out Youth Nabbed By Sniper. ;)
How you don't have Eat is a mystery to me!!!! Get the remastered one, it has a live cover of Bowie's Heroes from their London '80 gig. And it has Shayla and Union City Blues, my faves.
I think Suzy and Jeffrey is awesome; it's so over the top and campy. The sounds of the car crashing, glass breaking, I love it. And she sounds angelic on it. "They're going for a blooooooooooood test."
I love how we're all geekin gout over Blondie. <3
Because they rock. ;) I can't wait for her new solo album, I'm tellin' ya.

dhasjkgdfasd I love that song. Ever since I heard it on the Greatest Hits DVD I loved it.

My advice would be to get "Def, Dumb, and Blonde" and "Debravation" first. "KooKoo" is an acquired taste and "Rockbird" is quite poppy. :)

I will second that. I only have Debravation, but it kicks so much ass. When i first got it, about 7 years ago, i thought it was cheesy. But it grew on me quickly and with vigor! seriously, i only skip one song on it, and not that one every time.
