View Full Version : What's Your Theme Song?
cliffdweller

Okay, so we have "what's the soundtrack of your biography", and "who would play you in a movie and on t.v." so I got this idea:
At the risk of being too "Ally McBealy" , what song would you pick as your theme song? It can be any song from anywhere (t.v., film, popular music, classical, etc...) and can encompass who you are, how you feel, or what picks you up when you're down.
I'd pick "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles, no matter what that song always picks me up.
What's Yours?

Sweet Girl "come down here for a minute", is my choice, my Dad claims my theme song is Silver Girl though. I can kinda agree with him as I "would've been happier in the last generation," in other words the 60s.

I have a couple....
"For The Roses" by Joni Mitchell
"Just the Wine" by Heart
"Revenge" by Patti Smith
There are so many that would qualify for this kinda thing now that I think about it.

Silver Springs, no doubt.
Ok, sometimes I think also in I'm so Afraid, and Sweet Girl (no because of the "girl", but for the "many are the cities" and the "across the world", however the difference with Stevie is that I did see all the cities... I'm a voyager spirit.
So it's Silver Springs, no doubt. Those lyrics describe my life.

My theme song is "Unwell" by Matchbox Twenty. It's scary, I think he stalked me in order to write that song.
All day, staring at the ceiling
Making friends with shadows on my wall (okay, maybe not THESE lines)
(But definitely these)
All night, hearing voices telling me
That I should get some sleep
Because tomorrow might be good for something
Hold on, headed for a breakdown
And I don't know why
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell...
Talking to myself in public
Dodging glances on the train
And I know they've all been talking about me
I can hear them whisper
And it makes me think there must be something wrong with me...

Nice Heart reference. If I were to pick a Heart song as my theme song, I would HAVE to pick Sister Wild Rose, it hits home.
When CD's first came out in the early/mid 80's, the very first CD I ever purchased was "Magazine" by Heart. Of course, I had the album since it was released, but that album always sticks in my mind.
"Just the Wine" is so, so, sooooooo 1976/77!!! Very evocative and true to the time. The feeling from that song is the way my "head is set"- weird term, but that's how I feel.

My Immortal by Evanescence
I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me
You used to captivate me
By your resonating light
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts
My once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away
All the sanity in me
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase
I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along
It really strikes a chord with my feelings about my husbands death. Kinda depressing, but, right now, it holds true. :distress:

Stand Back gets me going, no matter what mood I'm in. I always picture Stevie singing it on Saturday Night live in 1983 and how much she rocked on that performance (LOL, it also rocks when the male dancer from the video comes out on stage for a rather weird tango with Stevie). The song has such a strong beat and Stevie's voice is powerful and it reminds me of why she is so cool.
Barracuda by Heart is my favorite non-Fleetwood Mac song. It has coolest guitar riff ever, and all the instruments on this song absolutely rock! Not to mention Ann and Nancy! This is the song I crank to the max when it comes on the radio in my car.
So why are they my theme songs? Barracuda, to me, is about getting on with life when something bad/annoying happens and how you're not going to let it overcome you. Stand Back is about finding something that makes you happy, even when things might not go your way. I take life one day at a time, and sometimes you just need to stand back...:)

I've always wondered about the porpoise references though. What do you suppose that means?
I remember reading somewhere that the song was written as a response to music critics. After Dreamboat Annie came out, critics were not giving Ann and Nancy Wilson their credit due for being musicians/songwriters, rather writing them off. The barracuda (a cold-blooded killer) in the song probably represents the music critics and I'm guessing the porpoise is supposed to represent Ann and Nancy somehow (or Heart). I thought that barracudas might eat porpoises, but I couldn't find anything on that...although I did see one page stating that porpoises might eat barracudas. Go figure! Anyway, porpoises can adapt pretty well, so that might be the reference (Ann and Nancy moving on from the critics). Perhaps they thought they should include another deep-sea animal in the song to even it out :)
Barracuda Lyrics
So this ain't the end - I saw you again today
I Had to turn my heart away
You smile like the Sun - Kisses for everyone
And tales - it never fails!
You lying so low in the weeds
I Bet you gonna ambush me
You'd have me down, down, down, down on my knees
Wouldn't you, Barracuda? Ohhh
Back over Time we were all Trying for free
You met the porpoise and me, uh huh
No right no wrong….selling a Song-
A name whisper game.
And if the real thing don't do the trick
You better make up something quick
You’re gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn into the wick
Ooh, Barracuda? Ohhhh…yeah
"Sell me sell you" the porpoise said
Dive down deep down save my head
You...I think that you got the blues too.
All that night and all the next, swam without looking back
Made out for western pools - silly fools!
Tthe real thing don't do the trick, no
You better make up something quick
You’re gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn into the wick
Ohhh, Barra…barracuda! Yeah

Ah! That makes sense doesn't it? I know the story about the critics and so forth tearing them to shreds and that they represent the barracuda, but the porpoise was a mystery to me because of the vague way it was just kind of thrown into the song. It all makes perfect sense now. Thanks!!

BLONDIE - Heart Of Glass Lyrics
Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
Once I had a love and it was divine
Soon found out I was losing my mind
It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
In between
What I find is pleasing and I'm feeling fine
Love is so confusing there's no peace of mind
If I fear I'm losing you it's just no good
You teasing like you do
Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
Once I had a love and it was divine
Soon found out I was losing my mind
It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
Lost inside
Adorable illusion and I cannot hide
I'm the one you're using, please don't push me aside
We coulda made it cruising, yeah
Yeah, riding high on love's true bluish light
Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out to be a pain in the ass
Seemed like the real thing only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
