I would like to make an official statement that Warm Ways is the most beautiful song FM has ever recorded. I never really cared for it, but I just listened to it on the remaster and it is so haunting and it just makes me smile. I can't help but be happy listening to it. I repeat- Warm Ways Rocks my world!!! :xoxo: :xoxo: :xoxo: :xoxo:

I've always loved that song, it is one of my favorites on FM FM. I think I definitely prefer Christine's slower songs...though I also enjoy the more upbeat ones too :D

I love it. The arrangement is just gorgeous, and it's one of Christine's best vocals ever. It's a little too slow for my tastes (you could easily put me in a coma by playing this song, That's All For Everyone and Sara... They're all so slow.), but it's still a great song.

I thought Welcome to the Room Sara and The Second Time were the best songs according to you. Going by my theory, you must rate Empire State as Lindsey's best work! :o Warm Ways is nice but its disturbingly hypnotic. Not in a sexy way like Brown Eyes, but in a very drowsy, snoozy way.

ITA!! I popped the CD in on the way home from my grandmother's house one evening and dang, that song just makes ya sleepy! It's an okay song, not a fave of mine tho.

BWAH!! Perhaps, Christine was going for the whole hypnosis thing.

*swinging a pocketwatch in front of John* she sings, "Sleeeeep, easy by my side....into gentle slumber, you can hide..."

Warm Ways is a great song. What does everything have to be fast. I love That's all for everyone too. Beautiful Harmonies.

Ah, you've got Christy there! ;) lol

Christy - Yes - I had the pocket-watch imagery too! lol. Maybe John broke it off and that's how they came up with 'Never Break the Chain'. :P

"Warm Ways" is one that took me some time to warm up to. Maybe if it weren't the second track on the album, I would have warmed up to it quicker... but 'Fleetwood Mac' starts off with the rousing, toe-tapping "Monday Morning," and then BAM! "Warm Ways" lulls you into that "gentle slumber."

Still, there's no denying it's a beautiful song, and one of Christine's finest.

I seem to relate this song to the warm summer nights of my youth. I used to listen to the radio a LOT, driving around with friends, etc. makes me wonder if some radio station used to play it. And that song that goes "Yes it's summer... my time of year" - who was that? Was it War?

Anyway, Warm Ways is a great song - and Brown Eyes. I love to sing along to them. I'm liking them more these days because of the reissues too, maybe even a bit more than Songbird.. In fact, I prefer these three songs over some of the pop-ier ones like Don't Stop... :sorry: but BLECH.

I love "Warm Ways". It's a beautiful lullaby, great vocals. It's sort of similar to "Brown Eyes". I love pretty much all of Christine's "slow" songs.

"Warm Ways" is a song that you grow into. When I was younger, I didn't much care for it. Now, that I'm a little older, I love the melody, soothing sounds, and haunting vocals. It is just beautiful!

I think this song got a huge boost from the re-mastering. The keyboards are so gentle like the lyrics. And the vocals are pristine! I never liked it in slot #2, but really there's no where else to put it.

Yes! That’s when I really took notice of this pretty, pretty number. On the new FLEETWOOD MAC reissue.

Christine McVie is a superior tunesmith -- as Lindsey Buckingham is. :)
With Nightingale-voiced McVie’s glittering ivories highlights, Buckingham’s two romantic guitars and Fleetwood’s subtle ocean-wave cymbal simulation, I feel a dose of cozy Fleetwood Mac chemistry here.....and a warm tropical breeze on an island......far....far....away....... :)

Rocks????

I like the song, but I wouldn't say that it rocks.... If I were thinking of a Christine song that rocked, it would be "Think About Me"- now that song RAWKS!! <insert fist in the air here>

Warm Ways is definitely one of my favorite Christine songs. It just has this feel to it. I always think of the ocean and the beach when I hear it.. lol.

I must just have really strange taste, because Empire State is one of my favorite Lindsey songs. And I know that WTTR...S and Second Time are not easy to love the former because of the strange theme and formate and the latter because of a raspy vocal. I still really love those songs though!

However, Alice is better then all of those songs combined!

Warm Ways is pretty, but doesn't have anything else going for it. It's not one of my faves.

I think Chris did some of her best stuff from '87-'95, personally.

I love Warm Ways. I think Over My Head World Turning and say You Love Me are all better Chris songs from that album but that just tells you how freaking great the white album was for all 3 songwriters. I love how Warm Ways is sandwhiched betwween those 2 great rocking Lindsey songs. It goes Monday Morning, Warm Ways, Blue Letter.

I agree. Time, Tango in the Night, and Behind the Mask all have great Chris tunes. And As Long as You Follow is great! But Hollywood, on Time, is the cheesiest song ever. But I still love, love, love it!

It was my second trip to the US.
1988
One of the first things I immediately bought was the tape with Rumours & White Album in one cassette, you may remember.

We were in NJ with my cousins, and they invited us to DC. We departed early in the morning so I drove almost all the road while they were all sleeping.

I don't remember if it was the NJ Turnpike or the Parkway, but it was a beautiful road and I was listening that tape the whole trip

And specially when I listen WARM WAYS, I remember me driving to DC. It was a great trip, and a beautiful moment. That song rocks.

Again.. I miss Christine in the band. :o

I have always loved Warm Ways. I like that sound of Christine, more slow and bluesy. I'm glad to see so many people enjoy it too.

Yeah, Hollywood isn't her best. But just look at the other ones she released during those eras:

Nights In Estoril
Isn't It Midnight
Behind the Mask
Heart of Stone
Little Lies
Skies The Limit
Everywhere

She was at the top of her game, IMO.

I'm kind of split on "Warm Ways". For me it's pretty close to that inoffensive soft-rock housewife muzak that I had been led into believing was all the Rumours line-up did. You know, the Santa Barbara stuff. I also think "Everywhere" and "Mystified" (which does have significant LB involvement) go along the same lines. Curiously enough I prefer the occasionally disliked "Only Over You" to all of these even though I could put it into the same category.

But when my appreciation for Chris grew I learned to like all of those. Some fanboy benefits I received there. ;)

"Mystified" "Only Over You"

Those two songs are pure torture to listen to. Absolutely terrible.

Not with that guitar on 'em! :D

I think what he does on "Only Over You" is some of the best lead playing on the album.

I agree, I wish the guitar didn't fade off so fast on "Only over You"

Love those songs.

I love Only Over You (and Mystified)! That's my fave Christine song on Mirage. It's so etheral sounding and the guitar is greatness.

Was warm ways played live? I'd be interested to hear what it's like live.My guess is that it probably was played, somewhere in 1975. There's a little sound clip of it floating around from what seems to be a rehearsal for the '75 tour(s). Mick gives it a stronger beat, & Chris switches from the Rhodes to the Hohner, & all in all it's got a nice spirit to it. It's a bit grungier than it is in the studio.

I think I may have this. It's on the Missing Links bootleg, which is a widely circulated boot. "Monday Morning" & "Say You Love Me" are also on there. Either that or there's another "Warm Ways" track floating around out there.

I like "Warm Ways". I still do find that there are about 30 Christine songs that are better than this one (seriously!), but I still like it, because of the laziness and the ethereal feel to it. I wish there was a live version of it somewhere. around.

If anyone is interested, I could try to send the rehearsal version that I have via e-mail. The track is over 5 minutes long, so it may be too big to send. If anyone wants to try, just send me a private message.
