Has Stevie ever commented on the making of this song? I enjoy its upbeat sound. So different from her other solo stuff.

For some "strange" reason I'm hearing Robert Plant.

It's on the tribute album to Harry Nilson (sp.) from the mid-'90s, if I remember. I have it on cassette somewhere (didn't even own a CD player back then!). I want to say the album is called For The Love Of Harry: Everybody Sings Nilson. Stevie sings with Ringo Starr. In addition I like Victoria Williams singing The Puppy Song.:)

Check out: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000000FPE/qid%3D1081620947/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/002-4950721-9036805

I'm surprised Stevie is credited here rather than Ringo; it's really more Ringo than Stevie. I think the album lists the Lay Down Your Arms as Ringo Starr with Stevie Nicks. I'm wondering if Stevie & Ringo were actually in the studio together. I doubt they were or I would think she'd have talked about the experience somewhere.
I agree that the re-make of Coconut is not good.

BTW, I want to say that Stevie was once onstage (in '92) with Ringo, Roseanne, and Tom Arnold in LA. Anybody remember?

Wow! I had no idea that happened! That's quite the combo, eh?

I've wondered whether or not Stevie was in the studio with Ringo as well, for the same reason previously noted (that it seems she would have mentioned the experience at some point). I do believe Stevie to be friends with Ringo, though. His wife (Barbara Bach) as well. Actually, I'm not sure which of them she was friends with first.

Well, I could swear I read it in a book somewhere.

Is he manic or what? I'm pretty sure the version I heard was from his solo album "Fred." Talk about your strange albums...

This thread inspired me to dig it out last nite and add it to the CD case in the car. It really is a good album. I bet Stevie was thrilled to sing with a Beatle. She didn't talk about it much in interviews, did she?

Going by what Ringo Starr said about the recording, it seems to have been a spontaneous invitation to Stevie.

Here's an excerpt from Ringo's statement:

"I just called Don Was. I said, Have you got a couple of hours? Everyone was sort of doing it at home, it wasn’t big production records. And he had a studio so I said, I’ve got this idea for this track. I’ll bring it over and see what we think, what we can do with it. We pressed the buttons. He put a line down on piano, we had the keypad for the drums. I did a bit of that and got some rhythm section going. Did the vocals. And he said, 'Let's see if so and so is in?' Some guy came over and played guitar and then Stevie Nicks was down the road, give her a call. And she came over with her girls and they did the vocals. We did it in a night. It was like good old records [laughs] where you’re not suffering for years. You just got it together and people were just popping in. It was like a little conveyor belt in a way. If people would come in and do the guitar. Okay, thank you, we need the room. Because it was just in a house room. I’d bring in someone else and it was just great. We started 'round about six at night and it was mixed by three in the morning. And I didn’t know I’d got a good review so it's good to hear." -- Ringo Starr
