I'll still get emails on the threads I've subscribed to, and I'll look at those, but I can't risk seeing the whole page anymore due to certain idiots and their zeal, or inconsideration, or whatever. I've already been warned not to go on the burnish board, so I'm not.

Well I'm sure it was an honest mistake, not someone OUT TO GET YOU AND RUIN YOUR TIME...or anything like that...I mean come on...I know people dont wanna know sometimes, but when the tour begins you can only put SPOILER in so many threads, because after a while MANY and MOST of the threads probably will atleast mention the new songs they are playing...ya know what I'm saying?

Livia,

Wow - I understand you're upset, but I think calling people inconsiderate idiots may be going too far. I'm sure it was totally innocent, due to excitement.

To be honest, I don't think everyone knows about the whole "Spoiler" thing, especially newer posters (I had no clue what this meant til a few months ago.) Hopefully now everyone is aware.

I never said they were. And I'm not taking it personally. My point is that people should have the CHOICE of reading spoiler threads or not. If you're going to post spoiler info in the subject of a thread you start, then you are taking that choice AWAY from those who would rather not know.

Some people never use their turn signals either. And they piss me off. But I don't take it personally. It's common courtesy. Either you have it or you don't.

I know where I can find out who the top 4 Survivors are this season. But I'm not going there either.

Somebody care to tell us all exactly what issues, topics, subjects, rules and the like call for spoilers? How the hell is everyone supposed to know what makes up a spoiler? That's individual for eveyone. Maybe I don't care to know all the details of fans who say they met band members, or maybe I don't want to see photos from the live shows, even though fans post them in threads all the time without always warning in advance what's in every post of a thread. Is this really necessary? Do we need to get huffy if somebody says something in a thread we don't want to know? Why not stop reading? Calling people idiots isn't inconsiderate? In my book it's worse than not putting ***spoiler*** in every thread that might contain something somebody doesn't want to know. JMHO.

There once was a thread with a name
'Important! Please Read', and it claimed
That naming new songs
Can in fact be a wrong,
And yet some want to spoil all the same.

It's sad that a long-time and respected Ledgie like Livia has been threatened off the boards by the 'frankly I don't give a damn' attitude of some of these 'new names'. :distress:

Long-time Ledgies and "new names"

Now we're comparing datelines of members to decide who's worthy?
Reminds me of the bad old days on Mick's board when people with the most stars were the only ones allowed to say anything meaningful. :distress:
Also, I didn't notice anyone threatening anyone else to leave the board. I think somebody called others inconsiderate idiots. Not nice.
I'm sure most fans do their best not to violate the spoiler ettiquette if they know what it is.

Please don't compare this place to Mick's board.

Hmmm. I thought I had made a reply yesterday about how no set list is going to be definite until probably the 3rd show (if FM follows the same pattern as the last leg of the tour), but it seems to be missing.

During the last leg, FM rehearsed a lot of stuff that didn't make the cut. So can we call any info about what they are rehearsing and MIGHT do in concert a spoiler. I would say that spoilers aren't possible until FM hits the stage in May and performs their shows. Until then it's more a case of well-informed-speculation about what songs will be performed. In my observation, speculation is a favorite activity on this board (for example, about Stevie & Lindsey's relationship as a theme of their music). I say nothing wrong with that. :)

The request was never about the content of discussions - it was about content of the thread title. That seems fair/easy enough to me. I'm an information-scrounger myself, on matters FM, but if some people aren't then I don't see any reason why, in certain instances, this place can't be used as a discussion board and/or a new information source.

People like Livia have been on here discussing FM in all sorts of ways through many years of virtually zero news or new stuff. I think of, from my experience too, the 'no news' Ledge as the status quo, and the constant stream of developments over the past year as an unusual high point. Lots of new faces to reflect that change of pace. Now, Livia, Deanna and others, get perhaps just one night to enjoy the real deal - a concert. After never having believed for one moment that I'd get to see the band this tour, I know what a big thing an actual 'concert' is compared to years of making polls on favourite album art or making FM spoofs of Big Brother. The Ledge is a great place because it can be used to enjoy the band in these various ways. I think their request is fair.

Sorry for using the term 'threatened'. I guess I was trying to find a word to describe what appeared to me from reading the threads as Livia having no alternative but to leave because some people made it clear that they would not be respecting the 'Spoiler Policy'. Which Janet has now pinned up anyway, to prevent any further confusion and, with any luck, to see an end to this silly debate!

Whether or not you believe Livia was being rude, you have no place to say so because you've proven yourselves to rude with the comments you all have made. She and others simply asked that when talking about stuff that may spoil the surprise of an upcoming Mac-related thing, you put the seven-lettered word "spoiler" in the thread title. Is that too much to ask? Anyone who's been on this board since the start of the tour knows that practically everyone has put the word in their title when posting their reviews, they even put it in the title when talking about the album before it came out last year. It's common courtesy. Learn, live it, use it. Get down off the cross, somebody needs the wood.

I think I just hurt my spleen laughing.

As much as I agree that yes, it is a fan board dedicated to discussing the band, the tour, etc. it also really isn't hard to put the words "setlist information," or "spoiler" into the title of the thread or at the beginning of the post if that's what a majority of the people who post here, including the moderator would like done. As far as being an old or new member, it doesn't really matter. I did the same thing as dissention last night on the chit chat board and i've been here forever. I wouldn't go so far as to call myself nor the others that happen to be newbies, inconsiderate. Sorry, we're all just really excited.

However, I will say this...had you all been listening to Mick the other night on Rockline, what would ya'll have done? Covered your ears and cried? I think we're all getting worked up over nothing. This is information that has been released to the public..not something Joe Schmo heard from a roadie.

That sounds like a line from a Joan Jett song... The song is "Get Off The Cross" and the chorus is "Get Off The Cross, I Need The Wood".

I had been thinking about what to say about this whole thing, but I think this is about the best so far.

I remember when Stevie was gearing up for the Enchanted tour. I was really psyched up, cuz I thought for SURE she was gonna pull out some really rare material for the setlist. With that in mind, I consciously stayed away from places like BBS's, websites, fansites, etc., where I might stumble onto information that I didn't want to know.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: If it's really important to someone that they be completely surprised by setlists, protect yourself by NOT frequenting areas that might contain that information.

And if by some accident one DOES discover something, turn the situation around and relish the good news instead of dispairing over it. No one can reverse time, so you might as well get something positive out of it.

I didn't even have access to the internet until a couple of years ago, but I have been a fan of the band for almost 20 years.
I certainly know what a big thing it was to see them play live because I live in the UK.
The spoiler thing appears to have been made a rule, so no one needs to worry about it any more. I just feel sorry for those who have been attacked over simply sharing news.

But even if Livia was rude, that is not the issue. The issue is it is the custom here for people not to put new songsm etc. in the subject line. Rather, it has been for people to put SPOILER in the subject line so anyone who does not want to look at the thread can choose not to do so. I do not see how being mad at Livia for calling someone an idiot means that SPOILER threads are self-centered and rude, esp. since SPOILER threads have been the norm around here for a long time.

ITA - and that is why SPOILER has customarily been put in the subject line in lieu of actual new information - so anyone who wants can, in your words, "NOT frequen[t] areas that might contain that information." Again, it is just a courteous thing to do.

I don't think they're self-centered or rude. I'm not sure that's what anyone is actually arguing. In fact I agree; it'd be nice if people put SPOILER in the subject line of posts containing big news. Not for myself, but because there are obviously some people who would really rather be surprised, & that's cool. I just don't think it's cause to berate anyone if they forget (accidents happen) or didn't know in the first place.

I dunno. I had the pleasure of being surprised last year when I got to attend a rehearsal and heard Goodbye Baby before anyone knew the setlist. But I didn't enjoy it any less when I heard it again 3 months later, knowing it would close the show. Nor did I enjoy my favorite song (Beautiful Child) any less that April, even though I had read on the boards that it would be performed.

I agree Tiff. We were all new fans, or fans who just found this site, at one time or the other, and we all can forget something.

This information was broadcast on Rockline and I am just not understanding why this particular news damaged the shows for anyone.

I am not one of the ones that cares if I know ahead, but, I respect that others may. I like knowing ahead because I get excited. How many shows did we see that had the same set list over and over and over. As soon as the first show of this last leg is performed, if the setlist is changed, it would be common knowledge. And, I think that some ppl who saw them furing the first parts of the tour and were not planning to see them again, may want to see them again, just to hear a different set list. They would have to buy their tickets ahead, so it is in some ways a good thing. JMO. :wavey:

I was using the words and/or parapharasing the words used in posted by others in this and other threads when I used self-centered, etc. I do not think people who like SPOILER in the subject line are any of those things, even though I do not agree with their need to be surprised.

I thought being rude, inconsiderate, or being an idiot was the issue. At the beginning of this thread nobody said they refused to use the spoiler system. It seemed to be an honest mistake that songs mentioned in a public radio interview were posted here without using the spoiler rules. To me that was not a big deal. The offended party could have explained the situation without getting rude about it. Somebody overreacted and started name calling instead of explaining the customary spoiler routine for those who didn't realize they were stepping on toes. Afterall this is a message board about the band, isn't it? Anyway, lets all play nice and we'll try to remember not to post songs in the set list. What else is not allowed under the spolier rules?

Cool - if everyone agrees to use the SPOILER subject lines I think that is GREAT, even though I personally could care a less about them because I LOVE the dirt!!!!!!

I think the SPOILER rules (if there are any set ones) include not posting anything new sung or worn (for the resident chiffonheads WE LOVE YOU  ) in the first concert and then any similar new things begun as the tour progresses. But, I am by no means an expert on this. So, others please feel free to add, correct, etc.

First of all, you guys are right. It was rude and harsh of me to call people “idiots.” And for that, I do sincerely apologize. I was angry. We’ve all said and done things out of anger. Not my finest moment…sorry!

I don’t have a computer at home, but I do have a telephone. And I was well-informed of what was happening on the Ledge all weekend. I considered not saying anything, in order to not “fuel this fire.” However, those of you who know me are well-aware that I’m not the “just sit there and take it” type. So, allow me to respond, especially to the comments and questions that were directed solely toward me (and have a bit of fun):

Good riddance, ya spoiled brat! Don't let the screen door bang you on your way out. It takes some nerve for someone to cast a pall on everybody's enjoyment over this exciting news. This is what a fan forum is for- to share this kind of information that most fans want to know. If you don't want to know, then what the f**k are you doing in a fan forum? That's just like walking into a sailor's locker room and not expecting to hear any swear words.

Please don't come back until you have apologized to the people you have offended with your selfish, obnoxious rant.

(Seinfeld voice) Hellooooo, Newbie!

What part of my second post on this thread did you not understand? I’m not *really* gone. I’ve heard about your posts on other threads here. For the new kid on the block, you seem to enjoy antagonizing people and picking fights. What a way to make a first impression.

So, let me get this straight – you chastised ME for being rude, and you don’t consider the comment you made to me rude and mean-spirited? This one’s too easy: Hello, Kettle? This is Pot. You’re black!

I heard you put up a second post, which also contained spoiler info in your subject line. Would you walk out of a movie theater after seeing something like The Others or the Sixth Sense and blurt the ending to the folks waiting in line for the next showing? To me, that seems like something a selfish, spoiled brat would do. Or Ralph Malph (“Rosebud was a sled!” “Anthony Perkins plays his own mother!”) LOL

I, as well as other Ledgies, voluntarily spent oodles of time on Ticketmaster last year, finding those magical, last-minute seats in the first 5 rows. I believe my selfless efforts were constructive and benefited many.

(Cartman voice, when he was a guest on Jerry Springer) "You don't know me!" LOL You have no idea how busy and full my life is, aside from the Ledge.

Word!

Someone, somewhere, made a comment akin to "I thought the internet was for getting information...."

True. So are television and newspapers. But the deluge of too much (or undesirable) information can sometimes be a bad thing. I don’t watch CNN all day because it depresses me. I don’t read the sports page because, aside from college football season, it doesn’t interest me. However, just because I CHOOSE not to watch too much CNN or read the sports page, doesn’t mean I’m taking it away from others. Capiche? And btw, other uses for the internet: downloading music, having discussions on message boards, exchanging e-mails, entering sweepstakes, paying bills, etc. And avoiding posts that obviously contain spoiler info. ;-) I know someone who spends most of his time on the internet playing interactive games and downloading porn. Heh.

In addition to Vianna’s sticky at the top of the board, I believe Marty (our esteemed webmaster of this site) was the one who originated the “non-spoiler info in the subject line” policy, way back on the Dance tour. So, if you’re going to come into Marty’s “home,” then you can at least abide by the rules. Once the tour begins, a subject like, “My Atlanta Review” is going to contain spoilers. You don’t have to literally type “spoiler” in every subject heading. I still can’t fathom why some of you don’t “get it.” The folks on the burnish board have instilled the same policy, and nobody over there is complaining about it, or calling people names….

And finally, I wrote this little ditty to drive the point home:

(To the tune of “I Don’t Wanna Know”)

Chorus:

We don’t wanna know the set list now
‘Cause we’d really much rather be surprised
We don’t wanna stand between others posting
We just really want to be surprised

Finally, Ledgies
The next leg is startin’ now
Take a listen to our pleadings
Don’t blurt the songs out loud
Post all that you want to
But don’t spoil in your subject line
You got me a rockin’ and a reelin’

Oooooooh (repeat chorus)’

Peace Out!

(“Rosebud was a sled!” “Anthony Perkins plays his own mother!”)

Sorry, Livia, but even I must take issue with your comments now. Come on. I mean, just look at this stanza:

We don’t wanna know the set list now
‘Cause we’d really much rather be surprised
We don’t wanna stand between others posting
We just really want to be surprised

Can't you see the second line is way too long? It has far too many syllables, which means the line won't fit with the meter of the song. Geeessh... :D

I have to admit this thread was just the ticket for a so-far dull day. Thank you all. I had avoided it until now, and now I'm glad I read it.

However, it saddens me to see so much misdirected antagonism. So in the spirit of conciliation, I am going to quote a modern-day hero of the masses:

"Can't we all just get along?"

Otherwise, you know who wins... Right?

LOL!! "Love keeps right on walkin' on down the line" = 10 syllables.

"Cause we'd really much rather be surprised" = 10 syllables.

So there! ;-)

Even when you feel like peeps are hating,
I know that you'll post on forever cuz you're that good.

Lack of Spoilers of the moment are not endless
This website is your life's love.

Oh and anytime you think about leaving think about what you know,
Think about it, think about it before you go!

God, what a horrible rendition, (I only had five minutes to write it) please don't throw tomatoes.

Yes, thank you for that! I was one who benefitted! :)

Wait a minute, Ledgies
Hush-up for just awhile
Said you'd write spoiler
In your subject line...

DrownDing in this sea of posts
Where everyone just loves to spoil
Well, now we know
It came from your big mouth
But if you go to shows,
Then keep your trap shut

All Livia ever wanted
Was to know that she'd be surprised...
"Spoilers..."

First of all, you guys are right. It was rude and harsh of me to call people “idiots.” And for that, I do sincerely apologize. I was angry. We’ve all said and done things out of anger. Not my finest moment…sorry!

Apology accepted! Everyone has bad days. You're entitled to your first. :D

Your history of great support for fellow fans speaks volumes.

Thanks for not holding a grude against us idiots.
