Make a point to swing the dough for this RUMOURS Reissue! I was FLOORED when I played these CDs the first time. Magnificent clarity and depth! Not a filler on either disc! Even though Part II contains roughs, outtakes and demos… they all seem quite complete and releasable to me, so I reviewed them that way. Here are a few thoughts on some of the second disc tracks:

Roughs and Outtakes:

DREAMS: Miss the spectrum of sounds floating in and out as on the original, but Nicks still delivers a mindblowing vocal on this outtake!

BRUSHES (NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN): Buckingham is an ace guitarist. Sooo, sooo pretty with it’s chime-like and bright, plinking intro! :) Tasty acoustic wizardry from the virtuoso, throughout.

GO YOUR OWN WAY: Showcases Fleetwood’s drum mastery -- that ‘almost’ STREET FIGHTING MAN Rolling Stones’ beat that Buckingham so desperately wanted. John McVie’s bass is a melody marvel here! I still like this demo but am so glad Buck’s acoustic bliss-intro, rhythm -- AND gutsy guitar playing was added to the finale…..

SONGBIRD: Christine’s beautiful clear voice and eighty-eights? Fabulous! Buckingham’s acoustic is more pronounced, and he sprinkles pleasing harmonics in all the right places. The right touch from Fleetwood in there, as well. I like this better than the original!

SECOND HAND NEWS: John McVie’s bass sings! Nice acoustic attack at the start with Buck aggressively digging into the chords. But I miss the crisp, “drum-chair” and Buckingham’s “axe-highlighting” throughout, as well as his breakneck electric finale. The band knew what they were doing when they added these amenities to be the finished product! Also, Lindsey’s vocal here isn’t as compelling as the completed version. The original SECOND HAND NEWS rocks more, of course! It’s my favorite cut on RUMOURS. Do it! do it! DO IT!

Early Demos:

NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN is like opening up a music box! :] An almost fanciful tune. Faster than “Brushes.” Lovely!

PlANETS OF THE UNIVERSE: Nicks displays a fabulous vocal range here. She is the queen of crescendos! This demo sounds gig-ready!

GOLD DUST WOMAN –ACOUSTIC: Nicks takes a more folksy approach when she first recorded this song. Hi-hatted and harmonious at the end -- which I really fancy!

DOESN’T ANYTHING LAST: Buckingham singing clear and country. I love his voice. So sweet here! Just isn’t long enough.

FOR DUSTER: This grows intense – then winds down for the epilogue. Blues at its best from this bunch!

My faves from the original:

SECOND HAND NEWS
DREAMS
NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN
GO YOUR OWN WAY
SILVER SPRINGS
I DON’T WANT TO KNOW

Still more to listen to on here >>>then on to TUSK!

Favorites so far:

Planets of the Universe-I love it. It' s better than the TISL version. I love it when she says don't condescend to me and take your leave I don't care...LOL...Right, Stevie! Great guitar playing at the end too.

Sara-I've always loved this version-it's great to have a good quality recording now!

Storms-it's gorgeous

Beautiful Child

Lindsey's instrumentals on Tusk- I love it when they are all jamming together on these songs.

Yes, I also like Nicks' THINK ABOUT IT.

“Step into the velvet of the moment…….”

Stevie Nicks’ pipes sound glorious here! You could almost hear Linda Ronstadt singing this.

Lindsey literally electrifies it. This would make a cool Buckingham / Nicks “live” number..............

Fleetwood Mac:

Jam #2
Blue Letter (Single Version)

Rumours:

Brushes-I finally have a clear copy of this track, And it's about time.

Planets Of The Universe-really different with the addition of Linds' guitar

Tusk:

No much of the unreleased material is interesting to me (Heard it all before with the exception of "Kiss And Run") & I am very disappointed that the version "Never Make My Cry" included on the bonus disc was not the GREAT piano/guitar/keyboard version found on the "Alternate Tusk Album" bootleg (It sounds like Christine is in the room playing through the speakers.)

Rumours:

Brushes
Songbird (surpasses the version that made it on the album)
GDW #1
GDW #2
Oh Daddy
Silver Springs
Butter Cookie

Tusk:

Pretty much the whole thing. Tops would be Sara and Beautiful Child.

I'm loving the alternate version of YMLF! Interesting to me that they have always played it this way live, (aside from the vocals at the end) but choose to put a different version on the album.

I also really dig the guitar in "Dreams".

The digitally remastered TUSK REISSUE is an ocean of songcraft! I literally dropped my jaw when I played through it! Grandiose arrangements and sonic splendor! TUSK is a masterpiece! :)

CAN'T WALK OUT OF HERE (The Ledge) Buckingham's vocals are heard in the distance, giving this demo a surrealistic quality.

THINK ABOUT ME (disc 2) Without the added harmonies of the released rendition, Lindsey sings lead on the second half of the demo. I like that. "I don't HOLD you down/Maybe that's WHY you're around,¨ he emphasizes.

SARA - I Wanna Be A Star; I Don't Wanna Be a Cleaning Lady -- is phenomenal Nicks! Echo-pretty. I hear angels!

LINDSEY'S SONG #2 (That's All For Everyone) A heartstopping amalgam of sounds! You can just imagine Brian Wilson fill Buckingham's lead vocal void.

OUT ON THE ROAD (That's Enough For Me) This Lindsey track is a real favorite of mine! Is it an audio illusion that this song accelerates? That's what makes it exciting!

SONG #1 (I Know I'm Not Wrong) & SONG #1 (I Know I'm Not Wrong) Both totally intriguing. It's fascinating hearing how all Buck's songs evolved into the fine finished product.

FARMER'S DAUGHTER Thanks to this lovely studio version - perfect intonation!

SISTERS OF THE MOON The climax of Nicks' song: Buckingham's earbleeding lead is stellar on the crescendos of the SINGLE released version. And the abrupt finale is a showstopper! :)

DISC 1 TUSK Originally released favorites of mine:

OVER & OVER
THE LEDGE
THINK ABOUT ME
SAVE ME A PLACE
SARA
THAT'S ALL FOR EVERYONE
ANGEL
THAT'S ENOUGH FOR ME
NEVER MAKE ME CRY
I KNOW I'M NOT WRONG
BEAUTIFUL CHILD
WALK A THIN LINE
TUSK
NEVER FORGET

I still have Tusk. I really want it bad. But I'm content with just having Rumours and I'm LOVING disk 2 of the reissue here. These are my favorites. I'll indicate plusses when it's REALLY great.

Dreams (isn't mentioned much but I love this stripped down version)
Brushes (+++)
Songbird (How can you not love that added guitar)
Silver Springs (I miss the harmonies and perfect Stevie vocal but this long and winding version rocks too)
Oh Daddy (I love the original Oh Daddy more but those Stevie harmonies are just plain haunting)
Think About It (+++++++)
Planets of the Universe (+++++++++++) BEST version of the song
Butter Cookie (++++++++++++) Best Song on the whole reissue
For Duster The Blues (++++++++)
You Make Loving Fun

I think the Rumours bonus disc is by far the best of the bonus material. My favorites:

Brushes
Songbird(I think this new version is even better than the album version.)
Think About It(This could have replaced "I Don't Want To Know" on the album)
Butter Cookie(Terrific keyboards, sultry vocals from Christine. I think this would have been a great song if it had been developed more.)

I also like both jams on the White Album & Rumours. The Tusk bonus disc was somewhat disappointing. I actually have better versions of some of these songs myself. Where's that great piano/demo version of Never Make Me Cry?

"Songbird(I think this new version is even better than the album version.)"
I figured there would be the three verse version of Songbird on the bonus disk.

That's what I was expecting, too. But, I LOVE the new version on disc 2. But, then it's one of my favorite songs anyway. I've never heard a bad version. :)

I was waiting to answer this until I got my hands on Tusk, which finally happened the other day. Here's my list:

Over My Head (single version) - This should've been the version on the album, there's a lot more going on.
Second Hand News - I love the guitar and bass on this. Nothing beats the album version, but this is a cool alternative.
Brushes - I love all the harmonics that weave through this version.
Silver Springs - Totally raw emotion caught on tape.
Gold Dust Woman (outtake, not demo) - I like the added Dobro touches at the beginning.
Think About It - My favorite thing about the remasters. I love this song, it should've been on the album instead of "Don't Stop" or "I Don't Want to Know." The LB/SN duet parts are awesome. All it needs is a kick ass guitar solo and it would be perfect (and I'm sure it would've had one if they'd taken it further).
I Know I'm Not Wrong (#2) - I love the original, but I really like the higher key on this version.
Brown Eyes - This should've been the version they used on the album. If I'm not mistaken, this is the version that was on the box set. Very cool guitar.
Beautiful Child - Guitar is more prominent, always a plus.
Kiss and Run - Very cool song, I wish they had a more polished version.

Long enough list? :)
